Variability of Stem-Base Infestation and Coexistence of Fusarium spp. Causing Crown Rot of Winter Wheat in Serbia

Jevtic, Radivoje,Stosic, Nemanja,Zupunski, Vesna,Lalosevic, Mirjana,Orbovic, Branka The Korean Society of Plant Pathology 2019 Plant Pathology Journal Vol.35 No.6

Investigations related with factors influencing root and crown rot are rare and mainly related to farming practice and soil management. The main objective of this study was to examine broader range of factors influencing stem-base infestation of winter wheat in the field conditions. The effect of spatial distribution of infected plants on disease index (DIs) assessments was also investigated. Analysis of factors influencing DIs of crown rot of wheat demonstrated significant influence of the growing seasons (P < 0.001) and extreme fluctuations in winter temperatures (P < 0.001). In addition to that, localities together with their interaction with the growing season also significantly influenced DIs (P < 0.001). Aggregation of infected plants influenced variability of DI estimations, and it was pointed out that more extensive investigation should be conducted on broad range of DI in order to establish sampling method giving uniform sampling precision. Fusarium graminearum was shown to be predominant Fusarium species in Serbia (72.6%) using sequence-characterized amplified region analysis. Interestingly F. oxysporum was isolated in higher frequencies (27.4%) than it was reported in the literature. Given that there were no reports on the diversity of Fusarium species causing crown rot of wheat in Serbia, this study presents first report on this important subject. It also indicated that more attention should be focused on combined effects of abiotic and biotic factors influencing stem-base infestation of winter wheat. This knowledge will contribute to better understanding of factors influencing root and crown rot of wheat which would ensure sustainable disease management in the future.

      • Transparency in Urban Environment

Leung, Luke,Zhu, Yue,Ray, Stephen D.,Jevtic, Adri Council on Tall Building and Urban Habitat Korea 2017 International journal of high-rise buildings Vol.6 No.2

A generation of tall buildings has been dominated by International Style with full height glazing that is often vision glass. Large glass was intended to bring the outside in, to allow a connection to the natural environment, and to promote daylighting. Yet the glass box model of architecture is now under criticism due to expense to build, thermal and visual comfort issues for occupants, large carbon footprints, danger for birds, and aesthetic concerns with lack of transparency. This paper will take a fresh look at glass, transparency, energy consumption, and human health before offering alternative paths forward.

Influence of a Low Content of PEO Segment on the Thermal, Surface and Morphological Properties of Triblock and Diblock PCL Copolymers

        Marijana Ponjavic,Marija S. Nikolic,Sanja Jevtic,Jelena Rogan,Sanja Stevanovic,Jasna Djonlagic 한국고분자학회 2016 Macromolecular Research Vol.24 No.4

Two series, one of triblock (PCL/PEO/PCL) and the other of diblock (PCL/PEO) copolymers were prepared by ring-opening polymerization of ε-caprolactone catalized with tin(II) octoate and by using dihydroxy or monohydroxy poly(ethylene oxide) as the macroinitiator. The PEO block length was fixed (Mn 1,000 g/mol) and the PCL block lengths (Mn 10,000-40,000 g/mol) were tailored by changing weight ratio of ε-CL/PEO. The copolymers’ structure was confirmed by 1H and quantitative 13C NMR spectroscopy while their molecular weights were determined by GPC analysis. The thermal properties and the degree of crystallinity of the copolymers were investigated and compared by using DSC and WAXS. Both types of copolymers were semicrystalline with the orthorhombic PCL crystal lattice. The surface morphology of the copolymer films was investigated by using optical microscopy and AFM analysis, which confirmed the spherulitic lamellar structure with spherulites of different diameters. Data indicated that a low content of PEO segment had an influence on thermal degradation behavior, crystallinity and morphology of copolymers. Roughness of copolymer films was affected by the content of PEO and correlated with the spherulites’ diameter. The small changes in water and moisture absorption properties of copolymers compared to homopolymer PCL were observed.

A Generic Model of Memristors With Parasitic Components

        Sah, Maheshwar Pd.,Yang, Changju,Kim, Hyongsuk,Muthuswamy, Bharathwaj,Jevtic, Jovan,Chua, Leon IEEE 2015 IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON CIRCUITS AND SYSTEMS PART 1 R Vol.62 No.3

<P>In this paper, a generic model of memristive systems, which can emulate the behavior of real memristive devices is proposed. Non-ideal pinched hysteresis loops are sometimes observed in real memristive devices. For example, the hysteresis loops may deviate from the origin over a broad range of amplitude <TEX>$A$</TEX> and frequency <TEX>$f$</TEX> of the input signal. This deviation from the ideal case is often caused by parasitic circuit elements exhibited by real memristive devices. In this paper, we propose a generic memristive circuit model by adding four parasitic circuit elements, namely, a small capacitance, a small inductance, a small DC current source, and a small DC voltage source, to the memristive device. The adequacy of this model is verified experimentally and numerically with two thermistors (NTC and PTC) memristors.</P>
