In this paper, the applicability of connectionist network is tested against CP rating. A three-layered Connectionist network is designed, and of which performance in learning agency judgement of CP rating is assessed, and compared with prediction model derived from multiple discriminant analysis. The results show that connectionist network outperforms MDA, and can be use to develop a more accurate prediction model for CP rating.

Investigating Directives in Korean: Advice and Suggestion Jee-Won Hahn (Kyung-Hee University) Even though it is based on a small number of responses, this study provides some interesting findings and implications for two directive speech acts. Advice and suggestion are examined from three aspects: conceptual, situational, and linguistic. These speech acts are shown to present similarities and differences as well. From a conceptual aspect, a set of semantic features are identified to distinguish advice and suggestion. The situational dimension offers the insight into the speech act theory (Searle and Venderveken 1985) to understand the condition for determining directive speech acts. Finally, linguistic realizations present various strategies employed for performing an act. Compared to advice, due to weakening illocutionary force, suggestion tends to be simplified in types of linguistic strategies. In addition, this study argues that a sentence-based approach needs to be complemented by a variety of pragmatic devices when it comes to the English-learning environment.

C_57BL/6계 생쥐와 Nude계 생쥐의 오금림프절내 림프소절 및 종자중심의 분포에 관한 3차원적 연구

This study was aimed to clarify the distribution of lymph follicles and germinal centers in the lymph nodes of the C_57BL/6 and nude strain mice. Male adult mice were used in this study. After animal were sacrificed, the right popliteal lymph nodes were removed and fixed in Zenker-formol solution for 3 hours and embedded in JB-4 resin. One of every two section, cut 3㎛ in thickness serially, was stained with May-Gru‥nwald and Giemsa solution. The results obtained from this study were as follows; 1. The number of lymph follicles per popliteal lymph node was average 11.25 C_57BL/6 mice but, the number of lymph follicles in nude mice was 20.25. In C_57BL/6 mice major distribution(8.5) of the lymph follicles situated in peripheral cortex overlying the unit(PCOU). In unde mice major distribution(14) is peripheral cortex beyond the unit(PCBU). 2. The thickness of most lymph follicles was between 0.01-0.19 mm in C_57BL/6 mice. But in nude mice the thickness of most of lymph follicles was between 0.20-0.39mm 3. The number of lymph follicies contained germinal center was 8.75 in nude mice. But C_57BL/ 6 mice was not observed germinal centers. 4. The average number of deep cortex is 1.5 and shape is semiovoid in C_57BL/6 mice. Spherical shaped deep cortex was observed and the number of that is one in nude mice. In stained section low density deep cortex was observed in nude mice specifically. 5. The size of lymph follicle in C_57BL/6 mice is 0.405mm and in nude mice 0.795mm

Ignitability of explosive gas mixture by spark of dry cell in case of short circuit by accident was studied for the purpose of evaluation of intrinsically safe characteristics of dry cell that manufactured in Korea. IEC type spark test apparatus, 21±2[vol%] of hydrogen-air mixture, and dry cell that produced in Korea was used for the experiment. The result of this research could be used for design, manufacturing and using the intrinsically safe electrical apparatus.

Strut-and-tie models can illustrate very well the internal flow of forces in structural concrete and thereby, provide valuable assistance to the designer who is striving for an appropriate and functional conceptual design. After some introductory statements this will be demonstrated by dimensioning and detailing the support region of concrete box girders. In this paper it will be shown how a strut-and-tie model for the different arrangement of transverse diaphragm are developed and how in the model the interaction between the longitudinal and cross sections must be considered.

포크너와 남부

보수적이며 비진취적인 남부가 문명의 첨단을 걷고 있는 미국 속에서 존속해 왔다는 사실은 매우 아이로니칼한 현상이기도 하다. 북부와 남부라는 미국의 지역적 특성은 정치, 경제, 예술등 사회 전반에 걸쳐 대립하는 두 개의 문화 즉 현대문화와 전통문화를 생산할 수 있게 했다. 특히 문학 부문에서는 전후 20년대에 북부내지는 유럽의 범세계적 지경과 새로운 문학적 양식이 문학의 실제적 요소로 대두되고 있는 동안에 윌리암 포크너, 존 크로우 랜섬, 알렌 테이트등 이른바 남부 출신작가들이 전통과 진보라는 두개의 극단적 대립 요소를 가미한 제 삼의 문학적 차원을 형성하고 있었다. 남부 작가들이 그들의 전통적 과거에 대해 짙은 향수를 의식하고 있을 때 이미 지역적 한계를 초월한 범세계적 문학양식을 그들은 동시 수용하지 않을 수는 없었던 것이다. 미국의 남부는 보수와 전통을 유일의 생활규범으로 여겨왔기 때문에 남북전쟁에서 패배한 이후에도 미국 사회의 발전 대열에 사실상 참여할 수 없었다. 최근까지도 남부의 보수주의 는 다른 어느 지방보다도 강하게 나타나고 있는데 어빙 하우는 이로인한 "역사적 지연"(historical lag)이 남부의 사상이나 감정 속 기질을 가장 뚜렷하게 입증해 주는 근본 요소임을 지적한다. 남북전쟁 이후 미국에 선풍을 일으키며 압도해온 산업주의도 북부나 서부에 비해 남부에 대해서는 크게 영향을 미치지 못했는데 이것은 무엇보다도 남부 사회의 고립된 전통 사고가 강한 "지역적 아이덴티티"(sectional identity)를 고수하고 있었기 때문인 것으로 풀이된다. 어빙 하우는 남부가 과거에 대한 강한 집착으로 인하여 미국의 발전적 낙관주의의 대열에 참여할 수 없었다고 전제하면서 그것은 바로 "남부가 '역사의 변방' (margin of history)에 살고 있는 상태"였기 때문이라고 주장한다. 남부의 보수적 전통 밑에서 자라난 남부 작가들은 정치가나 교육자에 앞서 남부의 전통과 새로운 미국 사회의 가치관을 비교하여 개혁자로서의 사명의식을 느끼기 시작했다. 이러한 남부 작가들은 남부 전통 사회의 몰락 과정을 소재로 취하면서 동시에 남부 자체를 주제로 전개하게 되었다. 그러나 그 주제에 대한 작품 전개 과정에 있어서는 매우 다양하고 복합적인 양상을 보여주고 있다. 월리암 포크너만 하더라도 거의 모든 작품에 남부의 파멸을 작품 동기로 전개하면서 남부의 전통에 대한 애착과 거부라는 상반되는 태도를 동시에 나타내고 있다. 남부 작가들이 주제로 택하고 있는 남부의 전통적 과거를 미화하던지 아니면 배척하던지 간에 그것은 작품 형상화의 문제이니까 제쳐 두고 라도 왜 이 작가들이 남부라는 주제를 피할 수 없었던가 하는 보다 근원적인 문제가 대두될 줄 믿는다. 전후 미국 사회는 기계주의의 범람으로 인간 존재의 본질에 대한 회의와 함께 가치적 혼란이 야기되었다. 이러한 상황 속에서의 숙명적 인간 조건을 작가가 단지 증오하거나 도피하려고만 한다면 그는 자신이 스스로 도덕적 혼란속으로 빠지고 마는 불행을 자초할 것이다. 불란서의 비평가 R M 알베레스가 지적하듯이 이십세기 문학의 출발점이 바로 "부조리의 감정"에 있다고 볼 때 지성과 현실의 균열이라는 비극적 인식의 토대 위에서 삶의 길을 모색해 나가려는 작가 정신이 여기에 발견되어야 할 줄 믿는다. 물질 문명의 소용돌이 속에서 이러한 정신을 의식한 남부 작가들은 전통 사회로 돌아가 본래적인 휴먼 시튜에이션의 이미지를 찾아내려 했다.

고강도 콘크리트 전단강도 추정식의 제안

Recently, high strength concrete members are used increasingly, but most code specifications are based on the previous studies of concrete members whose strength are lower than 400 kg/㎠. In this study, we checked validity of the used shear design specifications of ACI and EC2 for high strength concrete members. Further, we propose a shear strength evaluation equation from the analysis of test results of 433 members, which include high strength concrete. According to the comparison results, we can see that shear strength evaluation of ACI and EC2 has large deviation for high strength concrete members, and Zsutty's equation has a problem of nonuniform deviation. Our proposal, which comes from regression analysis of test results, can give tentative help for the practical engineer, as it has less deviation and lies in safe side.
