Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the association between the use of statins and the occurrence of delirium in a large cohort of patients in the intensive care unit (ICU), considering disease severity and statin properties. Methods: We obtained clinical and demographical information from 3,604 patients admitted to the ICU from January 2013 to April 2020. This included information on daily statin use and delirium state, as assessed by the Confusion Assessment Method for ICU. We used inverse probability of treatment weighting and categorized the patients into four groups based on the Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation II score (group 1: 0−10 - mild; group 2: 11−20 - mild to moderate; group 3: 21−30 - moderate to severe; group 4: > 30 - severe). We analyzed the association between the use of statin and the occurrence of delirium in each group, while taking into account the properties of statins. Results: Comparisons between statin and non-statin patient groups revealed that only in group 2, patients who were administered statin showed significantly higher occurrence of delirium (p = 0.004, odds ratio [OR] = 1.58) compared to the patients who did not receive statin. Regardless of whether statins were lipophilic (p = 0.036, OR = 1.47) or hydrophilic (p = 0.032, OR = 1.84), the occurrence of delirium was higher only in patients from group 2. Conclusion: The use of statins may be associated with the increases in the risk of delirium occurrence in patients with mild to moderate disease severity, irrespective of statin properties.
3D GUI 의 깊이감 지각에 영향을 미치는 시각적 요인 분석 및 사용성 평가

본 논문에서는 3D GUI 에서 사용자의 깊이감 형성에 영향을 미치는 시각적 요인을 인지반응 및 안구운동데이터를 통하여 분석한다. 또한, 각각의 시각적 요인에 대한 사용성 및 심미성 평가를 실시하여 시각적 깊이감을 형성하는 요소가 3D GUI 설계시 갖는 효용성에 대해 연구하고자한다. 이를 위해 실험 1 에서는 각 실험 조건에 따라 정성적 평가와 정량적 평가를 동시에 실시하여 깊이감을 형성하는 시각적 요소별 차이를 분석하였고, 실험 2 에서는 각 실험 자극에 따른 선호도와 사용성 및 심미성평가를 실시하여 요소별 차이에 대해 연구하였다. 본 연구는 추후 3D GUI 디자인가이드라인 구축 연구에 대한 시사점을 제공한다. In this paper, we analyze the visual factors affecting the user"s depth sense formation through 3D cognitive response and eye movement data. In addition, we will investigate the usefulness of 3D GUI designing elements in visual usability and aesthetic evaluation for each visual factor. In Experiment 1, qualitative evaluation and quantitative evaluation were performed at the same time according to each experimental condition. In Experiment 2, preference, usability and aesthetic evaluation were performed according to each experimental stimulus, The differences were studied. This study provides implications for future research on building 3D GUI design guidelines.

Although traditional UX evaluation methods have focused on the experience users undergo when they actually use a service or product, the first impression that users obtain before actually using it is also an important factor to take into consideration. Previous studies have found that users form the first impression about an interface design in just a few seconds and quickly decide on whether to stay on or leave the interface. Furthermore, the first impression that is formed at the moment that users face the interface influences subsequent decisions they make, having impact on their task performance and preferences later on. Regarding such a significant role of the first impression, the current research suggests a brain based measurement method, EEG, as a solution to measure the first impression of users. Specifically, with EEG as an experimental method, this study aims at judging user’s first impression on an interface and understanding the underlying neural mechanisms for the process by which the first impressions are formed.

본 논문에서는 하나의 MCU에 의하여 불연속 전류 모드의 플라이백컨버터를 이용한 Single Stage AC/DC 컨버터로써 LED 조명의 전력을 제어함과 동시에 외부기기와의 통신기능까지 수행하는 MCU기반 전 디지털 제어형 LED 조명용 전원장치를 나타내었다. 제안하는 전원 장치는 별도의 PFC회로 없이도 고입력 역률을 유지할 수 있으며, 직류 출력단 전압의 크기를 조절함으로써 LED에 공급되는 전력을 제어함으로써 통상의 LED 전력제어시 사용되는 PWM제어를 사용하지 않기에 고효율화가 가능한 장점이 있다. 본 논문에서는 제안하는 전원장치의 주회로 및 디지털 제어 알고리즘을 기술하였으며, 실험결과로써 제안한 전원 장치의 유용성을 검증하였다.
Detection of adulterated gasoline using colorimetric organic microfibers

<P>Gasoline adulteration poses serious economic and environmental problems in many countries. A “<I>protective layer approach</I>” has been developed for the colorimetric detection of fake and adulterated gasolines. In this approach, a distinct blue-to-red colour change is observed when a conjugated polydiacetylene (PDA)-embedded, electrospun fiber mat is exposed to fake gasoline (a mixture of thinner, toluene, and methanol) and adulterated gasoline (toluene or methanol added to commercial gasoline). The matrix polymer used for electrospinning is found to play a critical role as a protective layer for the embedded colorimetric PDA supramolecules. Thus, chromic transition occurs only when the protective matrix polymer is dissolved by the component of the gasoline. In fact, toluene and methanol were found to facilitate dissolution of the matrix polymer (toluene for polystyrene and methanol for polyacrylic acid) and allows penetration of the adulterated gasoline to the embedded PDA, causing blue-to-red phase transition of PDA. The colour change occurs almost instantaneously (<3 s) and is observable by the naked eye. Thus, complicated instrumental techniques are not required in this approach. Importantly, this smart sensor system is portable, inexpensive, sensitive and it requires minimal amounts (app. 40 µL) of test samples.</P> <P>Graphic Abstract</P><P>A “<I>protective layer approach</I>” has been developed for the colorimetric detection of fake/adulterated gasolines. Effect of Aerosol Optical Depth on Diffuse Photosynthetically Active Solar Irradiance

Photosynthetically active solar irradiance (PAR, 400-700 nm) data measured with a Rotating Shadowband Radiometer (RSR) at Yonsei University, Seoul (37.57°N, 126.97°E) from 1996 to 2000 have been analyzed to investigate the dependence of solar irradiance on aerosol optical depth (AOD). It is found that diffuse solar irradiance is largely affected by solar zenith angle (SZA) and AOD. Diffuse solar irradiance increases with increasing AOD up to a certain critical value due to the increasing effect of aerosol scattering, but then decreases after the critical AOD value due to the excessive extinction by aerosol. The diffuse solar irradiance at a given SZA can be expressed as an empirical function of AOD, by fitting the long-term diffuse measurements. This empirical model is validated with its sensitivity tests for AOD. The empirical model was compared with the CLIRAD model over the globe, which showed reasonably good agreements.
