Wet clutch is widely used for the power flow distribution in various mechanical systems. Especially, in the automatic transmission system wet clutch is adapted in the forms of multi disc clutch and lock-up clutch subsystems. Wet clutch is made of soft paper based friction material and metal plate for the mating friction performance and it is operated under high hydraulic pressure for the clutch engagement. All of the engagements are working under the ATF environment that has the function of less frictional contact behaviors. In this study, the contact deformation, surface roughness, porosity behaviors of paper based friction material and the centrifugal effects of ATF during the engagement process are studied.

A torque converter in automatic transmission transfer the engine power to automatic transmission fluid(ATF). A torque converter consists of the hydrodynamic clutch device and the lock-up clutch device. Especially lock-up clutch device connects directly an engine and an automatic transmission for high efficiency and the low fuel consumption. Friction plate which is main element of torque transfer in lock-up clutch system is made of wet friction material that is consisted of synthetic fiber. Factors decide characteristics of friction material and material composition, apply pressure, rotation speed, ATF temperature. This test evaluates drag torque and response time of lock-up clutch operation distance and ATF temperature.

Lock-Up Clutches of Torque Convener in an automotive automatic transmission have been recently designed with a significant purpose of achieving a more fuel economy. In order to suppress torsional vibration of the engine torque. lock-up clutch has been also employed with damper composed with several springs. Due to the resonance, however. NVH problems occur in low speed driving condition. The torsional vibration analysis of the vehicle is investigated by the dynamic modeling using EASYS5®. In addition, its application to damper performance is also investigated This study provides useful information for optimum damper design.

Automotive torque converters have recently been designed with a significant purpose of achieving a more efficient performance. In order to evaluate the change of the overall performance such as torque capacity and torque ratio, the complex circulating flow characteristics of the different torque converterst were investigated by three dimensional flow analysis using CFD code, STAR-CD. The experimental analysis is also performed to compare with computational results. In addition, It's design application to hydraulic performance is investigated. This study provides useful information for optimal design

This paper discussed deformation of torque converter at lock-up mode. It was mainly verified by high spin experiment, so this paper made an attempt to analyze high spin experiment by structural analysis. To analyze high spin experiment, 1/4 FEM model was made. And, cyclic symmetry condition and pressure included the centrifugal force were used. By analysis results. it showed that analysis results agree with experiment results at less than 3000rpm. And, because of plastic deformation at more than 3000rpm, analysis results make a difference with experiment results.

Friction plate which is main torque transfer element in lock-up clutch system is made of wet friction material that is consisted of synthetic fiber. Factors that decide characteristics of friction material are material composition, surface of steel plate, ATF oil and control condition. Particularly, ATF volume capacity is a important factor for friction characteristics and durability of friction material. The analysis of friction and wear characteristics of friction plate is investigated by using LVFA machine. This study provides applicable ATF Volume capacity for lock-up clutch system.
