N/A A PCR marker based on nuclear ribosomal intratranscribed spacer (ITS) DNA variation was developed to detect Tricholoma matsutake in both soil and pine root tissues. The nuclear ribosomal ITS regions of the mushroom were amplified, restriction digested and sequenced to standardize patterns for T. matsutake. The amplification products of other test samples including mycelium of T. matsutake, T. matsutake-like mushroom collected from pitch pine forest, pine roots and soil from pine mushroom forest were compared for restriction pattern. Based on ITS sequence, a new primer set was designed to specifically amplify T. matsutake DNA. The new primer set faithfully differentiated T. matsutake DNA from those of other samples. It was possible to detect T. matsutake from root tissue infected with the fungi and from soil sample taken from the forest where matsutake mushrooms were produced. The mushroom collected from pitch pine forest turned out to be T. matsutake.

A plethora of research suggests that a destination image plays a pivotal role in destination marketing due to its significant effect on tourist’ destination choice. This study aimed to empirically test the viability and applicability of evaluative image factors about a destination to market segmentation using a data set collected from Korean travelers who visited Guam mainly for leisure purpose. The results of the study clearly indicate viability and practical applicability of image-based market identifying four distinctive image clusters among the respondents. Those four segments showed not only distinctive image profiles but also contrasted with respect to their attitude and trip related behaviors. Based on the findings practical marketing suggestions were provided.
Acute Toxicity and General Pharmacological Action of QGC EXT

It has been shown that QGC isolated and purified from Rumecis folium found protective effects of gastritis and esophagitis which EXT is an ethanol extract of it. We examined acute toxicity and the general pharmacological action of QGC EXT to search for any side effects of it in rats, mice, guinea pigs, and cats. In a single dose toxicity study, QGC EXT didn’t show toxicological effects in rats and mice, and the LD50 was over 5 g/kg in both animals, and there were also no changes in weight, feed and water intake during these toxicological experimental periods. We examined the general pharmacological action on central controlled behavior responses, and peripheral organs including blood pressure, heart rate, respiration and gastrointestinal system, We found that there were no significant changes in body temperature, locomotors activity, stereotyped behaviors, sleeping time, and convulsion. In other studies, writhing reaction, normal body temperature, there did not appear to be any changes. The large intestine movement and electrical field stimulation-induced contraction was not changes by its EXT. In addition, the influences on blood pressure, heart rates, and respiration by QGC EXT were not found. These results indicate that QGC EXT may be very safe as a new drug, since its LD50 was very high over 5 g/kg and any side effects were not found.

Effect of EDTA on canine parthenote development during in vitro culture

Somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT) is a useful biotechnological tool for animal cloning. Until now, SCNT has been inefficient, especially in dog. It is believed that an embryo developmental block in SCNT embryos is cause of low production efficiency. However, no studies have been performed on canines for embryo developmental block. In this study, we attempted to evaluate the beneficial role of EDTA in canine parthenogenic (PA) embryos development to overcome embryo developmental block. The PA embryos were divided into 0.01 mM EDTA treated and non-treated groups. Embryo developmental efficiency was measured by activating chemically parthenote. After EDTA induction, PA embryos were evaluated for embryonic development, Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) activity, mitochondrial integrity, ATP production and genomic activation. The EDTA treated PA embryos showed significantly higher survival rate and improved cavity formation compared to non-treated. Furthermore, cytoplasmic ROS level was mitigated and mitochondrial membrane potential was found significantly higher in EDTA treated group followed by higher ATP production. Moreover, major embryonic genomic activation specific markers/factors were also elevated in EDTA treated group. Conclusively, we elucidated that EDTA showed substantially positive effect to overcome embryo developmental block in canine.

급성기 족관절 염좌 환자에 대한 환측취혈(患側取穴)과 건측취혈(健側取穴)의 치료 효과 비교 연구

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to compare the effects of the acupuncture at affected limb and unaffected limb on treating ankle sprain of acute stage. Methods : From October 1st, 2007 to March 23rd, 2008, the 60 patients who had visited Dongshin mokdong oriental medical hospital and Gwangju oriental medical hospital, Dongshin university with acute ankle sprain were divided into 2 groups ; one group took acupuncture at affected limb, and the other group took acupuncture at unaffected limb. To evaluating the efficiency of each treatment, Visual Analog Scale(VAS) and Ankle-Hindfoot Scale(AHS) were applied before treatment and after 3rd treatment. Results : As a result of evaluating by using VAS, the score of acupuncture at unaffected limb was marked lower than the score of acupuncture at affected limb. As a result of evaluating by using AHS, the score comparison between the two groups had no significance after treatment. Conclusions : Acupuncture at unaffected limb is more effective than acupuncture at affected limb on treating ankle sprain of acute stage.
