The study was carried out to develop a mathematical model for evaluating the effect of organic fertilizers in organic rice production systems. A function to simulate the nitrogen mineralization process in the paddy soil has been developed and integrated into ORYZA2000 crop growth model. Inorganic nitrogen in the soil was estimated by single exponential models, given temperature and C:N ratio of organic amendments. Data collected from the two-year field experiment were used to evaluate the performance of the model. The revised version of ORYZA2000 provided reasonable estimates of key variables for nitrogen dynamics and crop growth in the organic rice production systems. Coefficient of determination between the measured value and simulated value were 0.6613, 0.8938, and 0.8092, respectively for soil inorganic nitrogen, total dry matter production, and rice yield. This means that the model could be used to quantify nitrogen supplying capacity of organic fertilizers relative to chemical fertilizer. Nitrogen dynamics and rice growth simulated by the model would be useful information to make decision for organic fertilization in organic rice production systems.

Acute methemoglobinemia is induced by various causes, especially ingestion of oxidizing agents such as phenazopyridine, dapsone, and nitrite. Indoxacarb is an oxadiazine insecticide with high insecticidal activity and low mammalian toxicity. It is known to block voltage-gated Na+ channels in insects and mammals, but the mechanism is not yet well understood. We describe a case of a 41-year-old woman with methemoglobinemia that developed following Indoxacarb ingestion, which improved after intravenous injection of methylene blue. This is the first known such case. If signs and symptoms of methemoglobinemia occur after Indoxacarb ingestion, antidotal therapy with methylene blue should be considered as a necessary treatment.

The purpose of this article is to explore a writing strategy in multi-media age. In multi-media society, there is a complicated relations between old media and new media which is oriented to digital media. Therefore, the first exploration is remediation theory which is studied by Bolter & Grusin. This exploration finds three features in proceeding remediation along with the six characteristics in double remediation logic which is concepted with immediacy and hypermediacy;mediation of mediation, inseparability of reality and mediation, remediation as reform. The second exploration is to analyze the process of textual intervention which is writing strategy. First of all, textual intervention is that ‘interpretation’ is ‘re-writing’. The second axiom of textual intervention is to make use of consciousness of media. In Rop Pope's textual intervention, concept of ‘intertextuality’ ‘textuality’ in stage of ‘de-re-centering’. It is the ‘materiality’ of ‘textuality’ that connected with remediation theory which is media theory. Materiality of text shows the impotance of media. Actually it is more frequent to negotiate with medias than genres. Therefore, making use of consciousness of media must transform from traditional aesthetics to media aesthetics. In such media environment which is charactered by digital media, making writing strategy is supported with communication theory. Especially, the exploration of digital media is the key concept of theorizing writing strategy.

The thermal performance of a thermoelectric module in a thermoelectric cooling system with a heat sink is analytically and experimentally examined. The thermoelectric cooling system is composed of a thermoelectric module and two heat sinks. The thermal performance of a thermoelectric module (Seepel, Crystal) is analytically taken into account. The results show that COP (coefficient of performance) of a thermoelectric module is reduced and the heat absorbed increases as the input voltage increases. The thermoelectric cooling system with 12V provides 73.3% lower COP and 46.7% higher heat absorbed compared to 5V, experimentally. The theoretical predicted result is in good agreement with the measured data.

Chatter is caused by the dynamic instability of a machining system. Chatter causes a variety of economic damages, including reduction of tool life, and damage to the machine tools and workpieces. In this study, we propose a method for detecting chatter in head-tilting 5 - axis machine tools. A sensor attached to a fixed part is considered, located at a remote place from the spindle. This study aimed to detect chatter without any prior knowledge of the involved dynamic system, such as tools, machine tools and workpieces. First, the acceleration signal under various machining conditions was analyzed: no change was observed to interfere with the chatter detection. However, with chatter occurring, beating of the acceleration signal was confirmed by two or more adjacent frequency components, which could be the basis of a very good chatter detection approach. Finally, using this concept, a mode diagram was proposed for chatter detection.
