A study on exclusive vehicle interior utilizing gaze analysis
Jae Heok Ryu,Seong Moon Chung,Jae Yong Kim,Ji Hoon Kim,Hyung Kee Kim 대한인간공학회 2014 대한인간공학회 학술대회논문집 Vol.2014 No.11
Objective/Method: It was proposed to improve the exclusive vehicle interior regarding customer’s needs and behaviors in gaze analysis method. Background: It doesn’t show much difference between product function and quality, because of promoting technologies. But nowadays it is still limited to give a satisfaction to customers and to be selected by customers in automobile industry. Results/Conclusion: It was suggested alternatives to enhance the customer’s satisfactions. Application: This study will contribute to increasing the customers’ satisfaction and convenience.
Improving In-Vehicle Display and Control Design for Older Drivers
Ryu, Jae-Heok,Lee, Seong-Il Korean Institute of Industrial Engineers 2011 Industrial Engineeering & Management Systems Vol.10 No.4
Recommendations for older driver-friendly automobile interior design have been determined by taking into account older people's physical and cognitive characteristics. Twenty three older people (aged from 54 to 78) and five younger people (from 20 to 29) performed several tasks in actual driving conditions, in which their reaction times and performance errors were recorded. Some design factors were found to be related to older drivers' visibility and controllability. Several design recommendations were proposed in terms of cluster color and font, display location, and HVAC control type. Proposed recommendations are expected to satisfy a wider range of older drivers as these will facilitate automobile interior designs which are fitter to older drivers' visual, cognitive, and manual capabilities.

Suggestion of User Customization for Automobile LCD Instrument Panel
Sun Jung Lee,Hyo Chang Kim,Yong Gu Ji,Seung Hwan Lee,Jae Heok Ryu 대한인간공학회 2012 대한인간공학회 학술대회논문집 Vol.2012 No.11
Objective: The research aimed on improving users’ satisfaction by suggesting customization methods of automobile LCD instrument panel through existing studies and methods of digital devices. Background: Users requirements are difference according to their job, sex, age, physical condition etc. The diversity users’ requirements awoke the needs of information customization. However, there are many studies on customization methods of digital devices but not the LCD instrument panel. To address this problem, this research suggested the customization methods which can be applied to the LCD instrument panel. Method: This research analyzed the existing methods of the digital devices and the studies on customization methods. Then we categorized them into 7 types of customization methods and suggested customization methods according to 7 types of customization methods that would apply to automobile LCD instrument panel. Results: As a result of analyzing the existing methods the studies that would apply to the automobile LCD instrument panel, we categorized and suggested 7 types of LCD instrument panel customization methods. The 7 types are Item Select, Item Location Arrange, Item or Layout Modify, Item Function Combine, Function Control Level Minimize, Theme Control Level Minimize and Others. Conclusion: The research focused on improving users’ satisfaction by suggesting the automobile LCD instrument panel customization methods through existing studies and methods of digital devices. As a result, we categorized customization methods and suggested 7 types of LCD instrument panel customization methods. Application: We expect this categorization would improve users’ satisfaction and provide a new solution to automobile LCD instrument panel designers.
Gender and Age Difference on Driving Information Perception for Driving Context
Sol Hee Yoon,Hwan Hwangbo,Jong Kyu Choi,Yong Gu Ji,Seung Hwan Lee,Jae Heok Ryu 대한인간공학회 2011 대한인간공학회 학술대회논문집 Vol.2011 No.10
Objective: This research analyze the differences encounter on drivers' perceived importance and verification frequency on the different types of driving information with regard to gender and age. Background: Previous studies showed that there are scarcities of researches related to the clustering of in-vehicle information. Mostly focus on the development of in vehicle information system and importance motor ability for older drivers. Method: Our research concentrates on the clustering of information and analysis of perceived importance and verification frequency between age and gender. First, we realized a categorization of the information presented in automobile by: (1) Warning, (2) Driving Information, and (3) In-Vehicle Technology. Then, we proceed with a survey analysis on the information, distributed in groups depending on gender and age. Results: Results showed that there exist significant difference between groups for perceived importance and verification frequency only for warning information. However, each of the specific information showed significant difference between groups. Conclusion: Consequently, there are differences in perceived importance and verification frequency on the lower level of in-vehicle information as each group presents different requirements, purpose of use, and level of knowledge. Application: Therefore, this result can be utilized when designing an adapted automobile, taking into consideration the target gender and age of each automobile. Thus, satisfy the needs and requirement of each group.
