Since Metallo-Porphyrin (MP) is very interesting compound due to its unique electronic and redox properties and it is also chemically and thermally stable, MP has been studied for potential memory and switching devices. In this study, thin films of 5,10,15,20-Tetrakis-Octadecyloxymethylphenyl-Porphyrin-Zn(II) were prepared by the Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) method and characterized by using UV/vis absorption spectroscopy and cyclic voltammetry. It was found that the proper transfer surface pressure for film deposition was 25 mN/m and the limiting area per molecule was 135 ${\AA}^2$/molecule. The current-voltage (I-V) characteristics of these films were investigated. Further details on the electrical properties of Porphyrin-Zn(II) derivative films will be discussed.

The low-voltage induction motors have been widely driven by IGBT PWM inverters, ever since it was used to apply variable speed drives. Recently, the insulation failures of the stator windings become critical problems due to the high ratio of dv/dt in IGBT PWM inverters. In this paper, the detailed insulation tests on the IGBT PWM inverter fed induction motor are carried out. Five different types of insulation techniques are used to 25 induction motors. The change of the insulation characteristics such as partial discharge, AC current, capacitance, and dissipation factor are compared, respectively. In addition, insulation breakdown tests using the high voltage pulse are performed, and corresponding breakdown voltages are analyzed.

배광분포를 측정함으로서 조명기구의 모든 광학적 특성을 계산해낼 수 있으며 이를 바탕으로 조명설계를 수행할 수 있는데, 이러한 일련의 측정과 해석을 위해 배광측정기의 개발시에 소프트웨어 개발이 동시에 이루어져야 한다. 연구진이 현재 개발하고 있는 소프트웨어는 조명기구의 광학적 특성을 파악하는 데 있어, 상당히 유용한 것들이다. 또한, 조명설계에 있어 근본적인 문제 해결의 과학적 검증을 제공함은 물론, 더 나아가 조명계산에 있어 하나의 표준을 마련하는 데 기여할 수 있을 것으로 보인다.

N/A Background/Aims: The competency of the gastroesophageal junction (GEJ) holds the key in unlocking pathophysiologic mechanisms of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). However, a relationship between GERD and the incompetent GEJ has not been established. The aim of our study was to assess the relationship between the shape of the GEJ and gastroesophageal acid reflux. Methods: Forty six patients with reflux symptoms underwent an endoscopy, esophageal manometry and 24-hour esophageal pH monitoring. Patients were placed in 3 groups according to the shape of their GEJ, categorized by a retroflex view of the endoscopy; type I - gastroesophageal fold without a pouch, type II - no pouch and no fold, and type III - a pouch without a fold. Results: In type II and III, LESP was reduced. However, %of time with the pH < 4.0 was increased in type III only. There was a significant correlation between the size of a hiatal hernia and the shape of the GEJ. There was a relationship between the grade of esophagitis and the shape of the GEJ. Conclusions: The retroflex endoscopic finding of the GEJ focusing on the presence or absence of a GE fold and hiatal pouch, could be an indicator of whether a patient has GERD.(Korean Journal of Gastrointestinal Motility 2001;7:29-35)

현재, 연구진이 개발하고 있는 배광 측정기기를 위한 조명 계산용 소프트웨어는 일반적인 조명치들에 대한 계산 결과는 물론, 조명기구의 광학적 특성을 파악하는데 필요한 데이타를 제공한다. 조명용 배광 측정기기를 통해 조명기구의 배광 분포를 측정하게 되면, 이를 바탕으로 기구의 광학적 특성을 계산해낼 수 있는데, 이는 현재 개발하고 있는 조명 계산용 소프트웨어로 실현이 가능하다. 이러한 일련의 조명기구의 배광 측정과 그 해석이 조명 계산용 소프트웨어 개발의 주된 목적이라 할 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 그 동안 개발된 소프트웨어의 내용을 정리한 것이다.

Effects of beta-carotene on the immunobiological responses were studied in ICR mice. ICR male mice were divided into 8 groups (10 mice/group), and beta-carotene at doses of 4, 20 and 100 ㎎/㎏ were orally administered to ICR mice once daily for 28 consecutive days. Cyclophosphamide (CY) was injected intraperitoneally (i.p.) to ICR mice with a single dose of 5 ㎎/㎏ body weight at 2 days before secondary immunization. Mice were sensitized and challenged with sheep red blood cells (S-RBC). Immune responses were evaluated by humoral immunity, cellular immunity and non-specific immunity. The results of this study were summarized as follows; (1) Beta-carotene significantly increased the weight ratios of liver, spleen and thymus to body weight depending on dose, and significantly increased the increasing rate of body weight and the number of circulating leukocyte. (2) Beta-carotene dose-dependently increased hemagglutination titer, Arthus reaction and hemolytic plaque forming cell related to humoral immunity. (3)Beta-carotene significantly increased delayed-type hypersensitivity reaction and rosette forming cell relatted to cellular immunity. (4) Beta-carotene dose-dependently increased phagocytic activity, and significantly increased natural killer (NK) cell activity. (5) Beta-carotene dose-dependently inhibited reductions in humoral immunity, cellular immunity, NK cell activity and phagocytic activity by treatment with CY.
