This study was conducted to investigated the major characteristics of genetically modified rice of "Milyang 204" originated from Dongjinbyeo compared to a non-transgenic rice varieties Dongjinbyeo and Junambyeo. Basta resistant transgenic rice lines carrying bar gene produced by the Yeongnam Agricultural Research Institute were evaluated for their agronomic characters. The transgenic Japonica rice of "Milyang 204" showed inferior phenotypic traits compared to a non-transgenic rice variety Dongjinbyeo and Junambyeo. On the basis of UPOV (Union Internationale Pour la Protaection des Obtentions Vegetables) and NSMO(National Seed Management Office) the transgenic "Milyang 204" showed difference in some traits out of some agronomic traits, such as leaf color, angle of flag leaf, number of spikelets, culm length, white core and white belly compared to the nontransgenic varieties rice.
희박연소 상태에서 프로필렌 환원제에 의한 Pt-TiO_2 2단 촉매의 NOx 제거 특성

Investigation was carried out Lean burn de-NOx properties of Pt-TiO_2 dual-bed catalyst by propylene in order to get the high de NOx activity and the wide temperature window under coexistence of SO_2 and H_2O. Only metal oxide catalyst themselves had NOx conversion activity at high temperature over 400℃. Metal oxide catalysts had maximum conversion activity that CuO had 20% at low temperature of 300℃, and Al_2O_3 had 84% at high temperature of 550℃. In case of metal oxide catalysts impregnated with 0.55wt% platinum ion, Pt-ZrO_2 had max conversion activity 46% at low temperature of 300℃. Almost of catalysts impregnated with various metal ion based on titania and alumina had max coversion activity at high temperature over 500℃. Dual-bed catalysts set that Pt-TiO_2 catalyst put entrance and metal oxides put to exit, gave the results of high NOx conversion activity at wide temperature window. 0.55wt%Pt-TiO_2 +Al_2O_3 catalyst and 0.55wt%Pt-TiO_2+5wt%Cu-ZSM-5 catalyst had high NOx conversion activity of 56% and 46%, and kept up the activity over 50% at high temperature zone. Under the coexistence of SO_2 and H_2O, 0.55wt%Pt-TiO_2 +ZrO_2 catalyst had most little diminution of NOx conversion activity. 0.55wt%Pt-TiO_2 +Al_2O_3 catalyst showed the vest correlation between NOx conversion activities and propylene conversion rates as R^2=0.7097.
장기간의 생식 및 자연요법 식이 후에 발생한 Kwashiorkor 1례

Kwashiorkor는 주로 저개발국가에서 단백질과 칼로리 섭취가 극도로 결핍되고 부적절한 영양을 공급함으로써 나타나는 질환으로 영아 초기에서 5세 사이의 어린 영아에 주로 나타나는데 모유를 이유한 후 양질의 단백질과 칼로리가 심하게 부족한 이유식이나 음식을 장기간 섭취할 경우에 주로 나타나지만 식이에 대한 부적절한 지식으로 단백질을 제한함으로 질환이 발생하기도 한다. 저자들은 부모의 식이에 대한 부적절한 지식으로 장기간의 생식과 자연요법으로 단백질 섭취가 제한되어 kwashlorkor가 발생한 24개월된 남자환아를 1례 경험하였기에 문헌 고찰과 함께 보고하는 바이다. Kwashiorkor occurs most commonly in areas of famine, limited food supply, and low levels of education leading to inadequate knowledge of proper diet. It is associated with extreme poverty in developing countries. It is the name given to the syndrome of severe protein malnutrition. Kwashiorkor is an African term that refers to a child from early infancy to 5 years of age who is no longer being breastfed. Signs and symptoms associated with the syndrome result from a lack of nutritional protein coupled with an excess of carbohydrates. We report on 1 case of Kwashiorkor caused by raw food and naturopathic medicine and present brief review of literature. The child presented at 24 months of age with generalized edema.

Multiple myeloma is a disease caused by neoplastic plasma cells that synthesize abnormal amouts of immunoglobulin or immunoglobulin fragments. Light chain myeloma are regarded as a separate category characterized by a more malignant clinical course. Light chain myelomas are said to grow fastest of all and are associated with more osteolytic lesions, more hypercalcemia, and a higher incidence of renal failure and amyloidsis than either the IgG, IgA varienties The authors experienced a case of patients with λ-light chain myeloma. A 43-year-old male patient admitted to our hospital with the chief complaint of both rib and lower back pain. The radiologic findings showed multiple pathologic fracture in ribs. osteolytic lesions in 2nd, 3rd cervical spineimmuture plasma cells. Serum electrophoresis showed normal finding. Urine electrophoresis evealed an M-spike. Urine immunoelectrophoress demonstrated λ-monoclonal protein. With the cycle of melphalan, prednisone and α-interferon chemotherapy improved of pain was observed. So we reported the case with brief review of previous literature.
Al_2O_3를 첨가한 LaFeO_3 박막의 암모니아 가스감지 특성

LaFeO_3 thin films with 2%, 5% and 10% A1_2O_3 additives were fabricated by r.f. magnetron sputtering method on Al_2O_3 substrates. Structural, electrical and ammonia gas sensing characteristics of the thin films with different heat treatments were examined. From the XRD results, the compound of LaFeO_3 and Al_2O_3 was not found. Thin film with 5% Al_2O_3 additives, heat-treated at 800℃, showed the sensitivities of about 85% for 100ppm ammonia gas at the working temperature of 300℃. The response time to the ammonia gas was several seconds and the thin film showed good selectivity to NH_3 gas.

lmmunotoxic effects of 2-bromopropane were investigated in male Sprague-Dawley rats.The rats were treated orally daily with 2-bromopropane at 100, 330, or 1000 mg/kg for 28 consecutive days. Four days before necropsy, the rats were immunized intravenously with sheep red blood cells (SRBCs). The body and thymus weights were significantly reduced by treatment with 2-bromopropane at the highest dose. In addition, the numbers of splenic and thymic cells were decreased by 2-bromopropane. In hematology, the numbers of white blood cells, red blood cells, and platelets were significantly reduced. Among the serum clinical parameters, the levels of chloride ion were significantly increased by 2-bromopropane. The antibody respose to SRBCs was significantly suppressed at the highest dose. With immunized animals. immunophenotyping of splenic and thymic cells was performed to investigate the changes of the number of macrophages, B cells, and T cells in spleen and the number of CD4^+ and CD8^+ cells in thymus. The numbers of most cell types were significantly decreased in the spleen when animals were treated with 2-bromopropane at 100 mg/kg. Likewise, all cell types of thymus were significantly decreased by 2-bromopropane. The present results suggest that 2-bromopropane may have an immunotoxic potential in male Sprague-Dawley rate when the rats are exposed for 28 d.
