This experiment was carried out to improve the cultural practices of seedlings and to investigate the proper planting density in aromatic tobacco, Sohang. Two different cultural practices of seedling were employed; Temporary transplanting (TT; Conventional practices) and non temporary transplanting (N.T.). Vinyl pot sizes were $3.5cm{\times}3.5cm, \;4cm{\times}4cm$ and $5cm{\times}5cm$ Plants per hole were 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9. There were little difference among the vinyl pot sizes in all characters except the survival ratio. But it may be little problem on cultural practices by 7 plants per hole in $5cm\times$5cm vinyl pot. There were not significant in price per kg, yield per 10a and value per 10a between two cultural practices of seedlings and among three pot sizes. Mildness and filling power were increased by increasing the plants per hole. Combustibility of 5-9 plants were better than those of 1-3 plants per hole. The growing of 6 seedlings per hole in $5cm\times$5cm vinyl pot by non temporary transplanting resulted the best cultural practices for an aromatic tobacco, Sohyang.

An experiment was carried out to investigate the effect of the vinyl pot size and number of plants per pot on the seedling growth. Dry weight per plant, coefficient of variance and dry weight/fresh weight ratio increased as pot size increased, but competitive index, unit productivity and top/root ratio decreased. Dry , weight per plant decreased with increase in number of plants per pot, but coefficient of variability, competitive index and unit productivity increased. Dry weight per plant of the check plot (1 seedling/3.5cm $\times$ 3.5cm pot) showed little difference between 3 plants/4cm x 4cm pot and 5 plants/5cm x 5cm pot. Temporary transplanting of five plants per 5cm $\times$ 5cm pot saved seedbed area and seedbed materials by 60.9% and labor of transplanting by 36.3% as compared with check plot.

The study was made to establish the beneficial practical cultivations considering the processes of spike differentiation with the nine varieties of barley and wheat. The four varieties; Suwon No. 18, Buheung, Yuksung No. 3 and Yungkwang, were cultivated in the central region of Korea and examined at Suwon. Five other varieties; Kyungnam No. 89, Sekidorisaki No. 1, Suwon No. 18, Norin No. 4 and Norin No. 12, were cultivated at Chinju in the southern region. In both barley and wheat, the differentiation was started early to increase plant height. The year variation in spike differentiation was larger at Chinju compared with Suwon and considerable variation in spike differentiation was also found in different varieties. Only one of the material varieties, Yungkwang, shown slightly the year variation. The elongation of internode was late in barley compared with wheat and in Chinju compared with Suwon. The results demonstrated that practical cultivations coincide to the differentiation and development of spikes should be done earlier by approximately 10 days compared to the time of conventional cultivations already recommended by agronomists.
