        Psychiatric Findings in Suspected and Confirmed Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Patients Quarantined in Hospital : A Retrospective Chart Analysis

        Objective-Little is known about the psychiatric complications or risk factors for depression in suspected or confirmed Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) patients quarantined in hospital. Methods-A retrospective chart review was performed of all the patients admitted to the acute MERS inpatient unit at the NMC during the 2015 outbreak. Results-30 (75%) were confirmed to be MERS-CoV positive among 40 admitted cases. Among the 24 MERS survivors, 17 (70.8%) exhibited psychiatric symptoms and 10 (41.7%) received a psychiatric diagnosis and medication during their hospital stay. Suspected MERS patients did not exhibit psychiatric symptoms or receive a psychiatric diagnosis. 27 suspected or confirmed MERS patients (age 41.15±18.64, male 37.0%) completed psychological assessments. A multiple linear regression analysis revealed that the Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey-Short form and the Impact of Event Scale-Revised scores were significantly positively correlated with Patient Health Questionnaire-9 scores. Conclusion-Our findings indicate that the acute treatment of MERS-CoV infections in quarantine had a significant impact on the patients’ mental health. Furthermore, assessment of the risk factors for depression may identify vulnerable patients who require psychiatric care and attention during hospital quarantine.

        정보기술 활용과 정보공유가 공급사슬 역량에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구

        Purpose: Companies increasingly use their supply chain to respond to changes in the business environment and to enhance their competitiveness, increasing their capabilities including the agility and flexibility of supply chain activities. The purpose of this study is to present implications for their supply chain strategies by examining the impact of utilization of ICT (Information Communication Technology) and information sharing on the capabilities of the supply chain. Research design, data, and methodology: This study presents a structural relationship that leads to the enhancement of the agility and flexibility of the supply chain through the use of information technology and information sharing as a research model and an empirical analysis. 284 survey questionnaires responses were gathered from Korean companies, and structural equation analysis was conducted using the Amos 22.0 package. Results: Operational information sharing, strategic information sharing, and information reliability have been identified as factors that increase the flexibility of the supply chain. The factors that improve supply chain agility were operational information sharing and information reliability. The accessibility of information does not have statistically a significant impact on both the flexibility and agility of the supply chain. The relationship between the agility and the flexibility capabilities has a positive impact relationship statistically. Agility has been identified function as a parameter in the relationship of the impact of operational information sharing on flexibility. Implications: Companies often desire to pursue more proactive supply chain management strategies for flexibility capabilities that affect business operations rather than agility capabilities. In order to secure a competitive advantage, a company should provide differentiated services or agile responses that are much more important than cost reduction. Therefore, supply chain management activities should also focus on rapid responses to customer demands rather than reducing cost reduction.

      • FCP 14 Investigating antifungal effects of bee venom components on the growth rate of Trichophytonrubrum

        Background: Bee venom has been broadly investigated for its and antifungal effects. A number of researches reveal possible medicinal usage of bee venom in treating fungal infections. Objective: The purpose of this study is to investigate the antifungal effects of components of bee venom on Trichophyton (T.) rubrum. Materials and methods: Each of the fifteen potato dextrose agar-cornmeal-tween 80 (PDACT) plates was divided into two fields. Colonies of T.rubrum were grown on each field. The plates were allocated into four groups labeled as 1, 2, 3, and 4 in respect to raw bee venom extract, melittin, apamin and bee venom based mist. The rate of colony growth was calculated by the area difference of the colonies followed up for ten days. Results: The mean growth rates of the experimental groups 1, 2, 3, 4 were 0.416cm<sup>2</sup>/day, 0.666cm<sup>2</sup>/day, 0.576cm<sup>2</sup>/day, 0.308cm<sup>2</sup>/day respectively, while the mean growth rates of the control groups 1, 2, 3, 4 were 0.555cm<sup>2</sup>/day, 0.745cm<sup>2</sup>/day, 0.611cm<sup>2</sup>/day, 0.523cm<sup>2</sup>/day respectively. An independent t-test analysis was conducted and the results of the t-test indicated a significant level of mean difference between the experimental and the control groups in group 1, ( p=0.007) and group 4 ( p=0.002). Additional one-way repeated measured analysis of variance was conducted to evaluate the level of significant difference of growth rate in each interval and the results indicated significant effects in the experimental group 1, ( p=0.005) and in experimental group 4 ( p=0.002). There was no statistical significance of growth rate difference in groups 2, and 3. Conclusion: Raw bee venom and bee venom based mist hindered the speed T. rubrum growth. Further studies with larger sample size, fungal species and different concentration should prove more validity of antifungal effects of various bee venom components.

      • A case of IgG4-related disease

        IgG4-related disease (IgG4-RD) is a new concept which is characterized by elevated serum IgG4 level and infiltration of IgG4+ plasma cells in target tissues. IgG4-RD can involve various organs including skin as well. The cutaneous features of IgG4-RD are not characteristic, but are known as pruritic multiple erythematous nodules or plaques. We report a case which was considered as erythema multiforme initially, but later diagnosed as IgG4-RD. A 64 year-old female had erythematous patches and papules with pruritus on her whole body. The skin lesion appeared 10 days before and exacerbated since then. She also had oral mucosal swelling, intermittent sorethroat and epigastric pain that could not be diagnosed at the departments of otorhinolaryngology and gastroenterology. Serum IgG4 level was elevated, and diffuse enlargement of pancreas with mild peripancreatic infiltration was shown. In this study, we report a IgG4-RD patient who showed dramatic improvement after receiving treatment with systemic steroid, even if no definite diagnosis was made with pathologic studies.
