      • 제주도 북부연안역의 생물생태학적 기초연구 : Phytoplankton Dynamics and Primary Productivity at the Hamduk Area 함덕해역의 식물플랑크톤 동태와 일차생산력

        제주도 북부 함덕해역의 연안역과 외양역에 있어 식물플랑크톤 동태와 일차생산력을 파악하기위해 1989년 7월부터 1990년 7월까지 조사하였다. 조사기간중 출현한 식물플랑크톤은 총 132종으로 규조류가 96종(72.7%), 와편모조류가 28종(21.2%), 기타 식물성 편모조류가 8종(6.1%)을 차지하였다. 출현종중 Chaetoceros socialis, Fragilaria oceanica 그리고 Lauderia annulata가 연안역에서 현존량의 70% 이상의 높은 우점율을 보였으며 대체적으로 Chaetoceros속이 높은 우점을 나타내었다. 평균현존량의 분포는 연안역(정점1,2)이 7.1×10³∼7.3×10⁴cells/ℓ, 외양역(정점3,4,5)이 5.8×10³∼3.0×10⁴cell/ℓ의 범위로써 규조류가 97%를 차지하였다. 수주의 평균일일 일차생산력은 연안역(정점 2)에서 631.06(156.74∼1,055.26)㎎C/㎡/day,외양역(정점 4)에서 367.12(111.83∼734.44)㎎C/㎡/day로 년간 평균 약 182gC/㎡/yr로 추정된다. 식물플랑크톤의 동화계수는 표층에서0.93-13.16㎎C/㎎Chla/hr의 범위로써 하계에 높았다. 개체수의 수직분포와 일차생산력의 계절변화로 볼때 함덕해역의 식물플랑크톤 동태는 수괴의 수직혼합 및 성층과 밀접한 상관을 보이고 있다고 판단된다. This study has been carried out to understand the dynamics and primary productivity of phytoplankton at nearshore and offshore in the Hamduk area, northern Cheju Island from July 1989 to July 1990. A total of 132species were identified, comprising mainly 96 spp. of diatoms(72.2%) as majority, and also 28 spp. of dinoflagellates(21.2%) and 8 spp. of other phytoflagellates(6.1%) as minority. Of these, Chaetoceros socilis, Fragilaria oceanisa, Lauderia annulata predominated more than 70% of standing crops at nearshore and the genus Chaetoceros was most abundant in all stations. The cell number of surface layer ranged from 7.1×10³to 7.3×10⁴cells/ℓat nearshore and from 5.8×10³to 3.0×10⁴cell/ℓat offshore, showing the composition ratio of 97% by diatoms. The means of daily depth-integrated primary productivity in the water-column were 631.06(156.74∼1,055.26)㎎C/㎡/day at nearshore(st.2) and 367.12(111.83∼734.44)㎎C/㎡/day at offshore(st.4), estimating about 182gC/㎡/yr in the yearly primary productivity. Assimilation number of phytoplankton at the surface ranged from 0.93 to 13.16㎎C/㎎Chla/hr, showing higher values in summer. It is speculated that the dynamics of phytoplankton show the close relation with the vertical mixing and stratification of the water mass in terms of the vertical distribution of cell number and the seasonal variation of primary productivity.

        퇴행성 요추부 질환에서 TFC를 이용한 후방 융합술

        Surgical treatment for chronic back pain in degencrative lumbar spine has been still complicated. Several kinds of devices for spine fusions have been developed, but they have had both some advantages and disadvantages. Recently, the TFC(Threaded fusion cage) instrument has been introduced in treating lumbar spinal disorders associated with degenerative changes. The authors analysed 15 cases of lumbar degenerative disease treated with adequate decompression and TFC instrumentation between October 1993 and March 1994 at Ewha Womans University Mokdong Hospital. There were 10 females and 5 males. The main surgical indication was serious limitation of daily activity, which was not treated conservatively. The preoperative diagnoses were 6 degenerative stenosis with disc, 6 degenerative spondylolisthesis, 2 spondylosis and spondylolytic spondylolisthesis, and 1 FBSS. We observed that 93% of patients(14 of 15) had more than good results and preoperative back pain was markedly reduced. Intervertebral disc space was well restored, and the reduction was possible in spondylolisthesis patients. In our opinion, TFC instrument will be one of good surgical modality in the treatment of degenerative lumbar spine.

        국내 축산업 생산액은 매년 꾸준히 증가하고 있으며 전체 농림업 생산액의 40.0%를 차지하고 있다. 축산 생산액은 20년 대비 20.8% (4조 2,268억원) 증가하고 있으며 이중에서 양돈 산업의 생산액은 8조 4,785억원으로 가장 높은 비중을 차지하고 있다. 국내 축산분야에서 발생하는 암모니아, 메탄과 같은 온실가스는 이산화탄소보다 지구 온난화를 가속화시켜 국내 농가들에게 큰 피해를 주고 있다. 축산 농가 조사를 위한 방문, 센서 설치 및 돈사 환기 및 제어시스템의 조작이 어려운 실정이다. 비에너지 (CO2, NH3, CH4, 환기량 등), 에너지 (냉난방, 환기팬 등)의 사용에서 탄소 배출량을 구하고 여러 방면의 절감 연구를 진행하는 과정이 생업으로 하는 농장주의 입장을 고려한다면 어려움이 있다. 실제 적용에 많은 검증 과정이 필요하여 축산 환경에서의 탄소 배출량 예측 모델을 산출하여 국내에 실제 도입 가능한 신뢰도 높은 탄소 배출 계수 산출이 가능하도록 하는 연구를 하기 위한 공간이 필요하다. 본 연구에서의 소규모 테스트 베드 구축은 실험의 신뢰도 검증을 위하여 축산 농가 내 현장 실험을 하기 전 소규모 테스트 베드를 이용하여 축산 농가 내 할 수 없는 다양한 실험을 할 수 있다. 또한, 내부환경인자, 분뇨특성인자 등 다양한 탄소 발생 영향 인자에 대해 실시간으로 모니터링을 할 수 있다. 내부 탄소 배출량 측정, 외부환경요소를 축산 농가에 가지 않고도 독립적으로 데이터 수집할 수 있다. 수집된 데이터는 구축되어 있는 OneM2M을 통해 통합 DB에서 수집 및 관리 할 수 있다. 이에 본 시설의 ICT 장비를 이용하여 정확하고 통제된 환경에서 실험이 가능한 것으로 판단되며 이는 축산 시설에서 발생하는 탄소배출량을 정확하게 산정할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

        Transcriptome analysis to identify long non coding RNA (lncRNA) and characterize their functional role in back fat tissue of pig

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Long non coding RNAs (lncRNA) have been previously found to be involved in important cellular activities like epigenetics, implantation, cell growth etc. in pigs. However, comprehensive analysis of lncRNA in back fat tissues at different developmental stages in pigs is still lacking. In this study we conducted transcriptome analysis in the back fat tissue of a F1 crossbred Korean Native Pig (KNP) × Yorkshire Pig to identify lncRNA. We investigated their role in 16 pigs at two different growth stages; stage 1 (10 weeks, n = 8) and stage 2 (26 weeks, n = 8). After quality assessment of sequencing reads, we got a total of 1,641,165 assembled transcripts out of eight paired end read from each stage. Among them, 6808 lncRNA transcripts were identified by filtering on the basis of multiple parameters like read length ≥ 200 nucleotides, exon numbers ≥2, FPKM ≥0.5, coding potential score < 0 etc. PFAM and RFAM were used to filter out all possible protein coding genes and housekeeping RNAs respectively. A total of 103 lncRNAs and 1057 mRNAs were found to be differentially expressed (DE) between the two stages (|log2FC| > 2, q < 0.05). We also identified 306 genes located around 100 kb upstream and 234 genes downstream around these DE lncRNA transcripts. The expression of top eleven DE lncRNAs (COL4A6, LY7S, MYH2, OXCT1, SMPDL3A, TMEM182, TTC36, RFOOOO4, RFOOO15, RFOOO45, CADM2) had been validating by qRT-PCR. Pathway and GO terms analysis showed that, positive regulation of biosynthetic process, Wnt signaling pathway, cellular protein modification process, and positive regulation of nitrogen compound were differentially enriched. Our results suggested that, KEGG pathways such as protein digestion and absorption, Arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy (ARVC) to be significantly enriched in both DE lncRNAs as well as DE mRNAs and involved in back fat tissues development.       • 폐경기 여성에서 호르몬 대치 요법시 병행 투여된 프로제스토젠 투여 방법에 따른 골대사의 생화학적 지표에 미치는 영향

        Purpose : To evaluate the impact of added progestogen on biochemical markers of the bone turnover undergoing hormone replacement therapy in the postmenopausal women. Materials and Methods : There are 71 postmentopausal women who are divided into three groups (Group I, Group II, Group III). Group I(continuous combined)is given conjugated equine estrogen (CEE, 0.625mg, day 1-30) plus medroxyprogesterone acetate (MPA, 2.5mg, day 1-30), Group II(unopposed estrogen) is given conjugated equine estrogen (CEE, 0.625mg, day 1-30) plus medroxyprogesterone acetate (MPA, 5mg, day 1-12). And there were measured serum osteocalcin, serum total alkaline phosphatase and urinary deoxypyridinoline excretion before starting hormone replacement therapy and 12 months later. Results : The serum osteocalcin, serum total alkaline phosphatase and urinary deoxypyridinoline excretion significantly decreased after hormone replacement therapy (Group, I, II, III). And there was no significance in decreases in biochemical markers of the bone turnover among three groups. Conclusions : It was concluded that the impact of added progestogen on the biochemical markers of the bone turnover undergoing hormone replaced therapy in postmenopausal women was not significant than nothing added group. Thus we concluded that progestogen was not impact on decreasing on the biochemical markers of the bone turnover in postmenopausal women undergoing hormone replacement therapy.

        Stereospecific growth of densely populated rutile mesoporous TiO<sub>2</sub> nanoplate films: a facile low temperature chemical synthesis approach

        <P>We report for the first time, using a simple and environmentally benign chemical method, the low temperature synthesis of densely populated upright-standing rutile TiO<SUB>2</SUB> nanoplate films onto a glass substrate from a mixture of titanium trichloride, hydrogen peroxide and thiourea in triply distilled water. The rutile TiO<SUB>2</SUB> nanoplate films (the phase is confirmed from x-ray diffraction analysis, selected area electron diffraction, energy-dispersive x-ray analysis, and Raman shift) are 20–35 nm wide and 100–120 nm long. The chemical reaction kinetics for the growth of these upright-standing TiO<SUB>2</SUB> nanoplate films is also interpreted. Films of TiO<SUB>2</SUB> nanoplates are optically transparent in the visible region with a sharp absorption edge close to 350 nm, confirming an indirect band gap energy of 3.12 eV. The Brunauer–Emmet–Teller surface area, Barret–Joyner–Halenda pore volume and pore diameter, obtained from N<SUB>2</SUB> physisorption studies, are 82 m<SUP>2</SUP> g<SUP> − 1</SUP>, 0.0964 cm<SUP>3</SUP> g<SUP> − 1</SUP> and 3.5 nm, respectively, confirming the mesoporosity of scratched rutile TiO<SUB>2</SUB> nanoplate powder that would be ideal for the direct fabrication of nanoscaled devices including upcoming dye-sensitized solar cells and gas sensors. </P>

        Collagen-Induced Arthritis Analysis in Rhbdf2 Knockout Mouse

        Rhomboid family member 2 gene (Rhbdf2) is an inactive homologue lacking essential catalytic residues of rhomboid intramembrane serine proteases. The protein is necessary for maturation of tumor necrosis factor-alpha ($TNF-{\alpha}$) converting enzyme, which is the molecule responsible for the release of $TNF-{\alpha}$. In this study, Rhbdf2 knockout (KO) mice were produced by CRISPR/CAS9. To see the effects of the failure of $TNF-{\alpha}$ release induced by Rhbdf2 gene KO, collagen-induced arthritis (CIA), which is the representative $TNF-{\alpha}$ related disease, was induced in the Rhbdf2 mutant mouse using chicken collagen type II. The severity of the CIA was measured by traditional clinical scores and histopathological analysis of hind limb joints. A rota-rod test and grip strength test were employed to evaluate the severity of CIA based on losses of physical functions. The results indicated that Rhbdf2 mutant mice showed clear alleviation of the clinical severity of CIA as demonstrated by the significantly lower severity indexes. Moreover, a grip strength test was shown to be useful for the evaluation of physical functional losses by CIA. Overall, the results showed that the Rhbdf2 gene has a significant effect on the induction of CIA, which is related to $TNF-{\alpha}$.

        <P>A series of new half-sandwich titanocene [(η<SUP>5</SUP>-C<SUB>5</SUB>H<SUB>5</SUB>)Ti<I><B>L</B></I>Cl<SUB>2</SUB>] (<B>1</B>) and nonorganometallic titanium complexes [Ti<I><B>L</B></I>Cl<SUB>3</SUB>(THF)] (<B>2</B>) and [Ti<I><B>L</B></I><SUB>2</SUB>Cl<SUB>2</SUB>] (<B>3</B>) containing 5-(2-hydroxyphenyl)tetrazole (<I><B>L</B>H</I>) were synthesized in high yield and fully characterized by various spectroscopic methods and X-ray crystallography. In all complexes, the ligand <I><B>L</B></I> acted as a monoanionic bidentate ligand and hydrogen bonding between the oxygen of the tetrahydrofuran and hydrogen of the tetrazolyl unit was observed.
