특수형 방사성물질 운반캡슐은 국내외의 수송관련 법규에 규정된 기술기준을 만족하도록 설계, 제작되어야 한다. 본 연구의 목적은 하나로에서 생산된 192Ir 특수형 동위원소 운반캡슐의 건전성을 평가하는데 있다. 법규에서 규정된 낙하시험, 타격시험, 굽힘시헝 및 가열시험조건에 대한 안전성 시험을 수행하였으며, 각각의 시험 전후에 누설시험을 수행하였다. 또한, 안전성시험과 더불어 컴퓨터코드를 이용한 전산해석을 수행하여 안전성시험 전에 시험결과에 대한 예측자료로 활용되었다. 낙하시험 및 가열시험 결과 캡슐 표면에서 약간의 흠집과 변형이 발생하였으나, 각각의 시험에서 평가기준이 되는 캡슐의 손상이나 용융 등은 발생하지 않았다. 또한 각 시험 후 수행한 누설시험 결과 누설이 발생하지 않았다. 따라서 특수형 방사성물질 운반캡슐은 법규에서 규정하는 기술기준을 만족하도록 설계, 제작되었음이 입증되었다. All of sealing capsules to transport a special form radioactive material should be designed and fabricated in accordance with the design criteria prescribed in IAEA standards and domestic regulations. The objective of this study is to demonstrate the safety of a shipping capsule for 192Ir special form radioisotope which produceed in the HANARO. The safety tests were carried out for the impact, percussion, bending and heat test conditions. And leakage tests were carried out before and after the each test. Also, the safety analyses were performed using computer codes in order to verify the test results. The capsule showed slight scratches and deformation, and maintained its structural and thermal integrities in all tests without any severe damage or melting. It also met the allowable limits of leakage rate after earth test. Therefore, it has been verified that the capsule was designed and fabricated to meet all requirements for the special form.

Background : Atherosclerosis is the chief underlying cause of ischemic heart disease and there is increasing evidence that inflammation is an important determinant of the development of atherosclerosis. We assessed the levels of inflammatory markers in patients with ischemic heart disease and normal group who has normal coronary angiograms. Materials and Methods : Coronary angiography was performed in 142 patients. 107 patients of ischemic heart disease(stable angina pectoris 58, unstable angina pectoris 30, Acute myocardial infarction 19) and 38 normal control subjects. We assessed the level of inflammatory markers, such as CRP, ESR, fibrinogen and leukocyte. Results : CRP, ESR and fibrinogen values of the patients with stable angina pectoris and unstable angina pectoris were higher than that of normal control group, but there were no statistical significance. Leukocyte value of the patients with unstable angina pectoris(9003.3±701.5/mm^(3)) was significantly higher than that of the patients with stable angina pectoris(6685.5±245.8/mm^(3)) and normal control subjects(6394.3±235.1/mm^(3)). CRP, ESR and fibrinogen values of the patients with acute myocardial infarction were also higher than that of normal control subjects. CRP was 3.88±2.05 mg/dL in acute mocardial infarction group, and 0.29±0.15 mg/dL in normal control subject group(p<0.05). Fibrinogen was 541.6±45.1 mg/dL in acute myocardial infarction group, 321.4±25.6 mg/dL in normal control subject group(p<0.05). Leukocyte was 10942.1±737.6/mm^(3) in acute myocardial infarction group, 6394.3±235.1/mm^(3) in normal control subject group(p<0.05). Conclusions : This study demonstrate that CRP, fibrinogen and leukocyte values of acute myocardial infarction group were significantly higher than that of control group and stable, unstable argina pectoris group. Leucokyte values were significantly elevated in unstable angina group, but CRP values were not in unstable angina group.

Eighty five accessions of our laboratory pepper germplasm collections in 2003 were tested for resistance to Phytophthora capsici Leonian. Any new material highly resistant was not found among them. However, KC1184, which has horticultural characteristics of Korean peppers, was moderately resistant and appeared worthwhile in breeding for resistance.
관상동맥질환 환자에서 스텐트 시술 후 재협착에 관한 연구

Background and aims : In the coronary artery disease, a rate of restenosis was much decreased by placement of coronary stent than when percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty has been applied, but there are still important clinical problems of restenosis. There has been many progressive studies about various factors contributed to this restenosis. So, we studied a relation between restenosis after placement of coronary stent in the coronary artery disease and many clinical factors, characteristics of stenotic lesion and procedural factors, and also assessed the restenosis rate of various coronary stents. Methods : Total 58 lesions(46 cases of patients ; man 30, woman 16) were evaluated, which has been performed a follow-up coronary angiography after 6 months (mean 188 days) since coronary stent had been placed. Various stents were implanted and assessed a relation between restenosis and many factors. Results : Of 58 lesions were target stenotic studies, there were 22 of restenotic lesions(37.9%), and the restenosis rate wes statistically significant difference in the relation with diabetes mellitus(p<0.05), group of acute myocardial infarction(p<0.05) among clinical diagnosis of ischemic heart disease(stable angina, unstable angina and acute myocardial infarction) in clinical factors and with high dilation pressure of stent(p<0.05) in procedural factors. When the rate of restenosis was evaluated among implanted stents, it was lowest in the Multilink^(®) stent and highest in the Nir Royal^(®) stent(60%). Conclusion : In this study of restenosis and various factors after placement of stents in the coronary artety disease, factors such as diabetes mellitus, group of acute myocardial infarction and a dilation pressure of stent were significant related with restenosis and the restenosis rate of Multilink^(®) stent was lowest and the highest restenosis rate was of Nir Royal^(®) stent.
Antimicrobial Effect of Medical Adhesive Composed of Aldehyded Dextran and ε-Poly(L-Lysine)

Infection of surgical wounds is a severe problem. Conventional tissue reattachment methods have limits of incomplete sealing and high susceptibility to infection. Medical adhesives have several advantages over traditional tissue reattachment techniques, but still have drawbacks, such as the probability of infection, low adhesive strength, and high cytotoxicity. Recently, a new medical adhesive (new-adhesive) with high adhesive strength and low cytotoxicity, composed of aldehyded dextran and ε-poly(Llysine), was developed. The antimicrobial activity of the new-adhesive was assayed using agar media and porcine skin. In the agar diffusion method, inoculated microorganisms that contacted the new-adhesive were inactivated, but this was not dependent on the amount of new-adhesive. Similar to the agar media results, the topical antimicrobial effect of new-adhesive was confirmed using a porcine skin antimicrobial assay, and the effect was not due to physical blocking based on comparison with the group whose wounds were wrapped.
Serum cytokines related to endometriosis in patients with multiplex immunoassay

Objective: The aim of this study is to evaluate serum cytokine profiles in patients with and without endometriosis using multiplex cytokine panel and to investigate diagnostic potentials of differently expressed cytokines in endometriosis. Methods: We analyzed the concentration of 21 different serum cytokines from the total of 141 women who underwent surgery for endometriosis (N=66) and other benign conditions (N=75) with multiplex immunoassays (Milliplex Human Cytokine/Chemokine Panel IV, Millipore). Cytokines were APRIL, IL-14, BAFF, BRAK, CXCL16, CCL28, HCC-4, HMGB1, MPIF, IFNb, MIP-4, IL-19, IL-24, IFN3, IL-32a, IL-34, IL-35, IL-36, IL-37, IL-38 and YKL40. Differences were analyzed using SPSS 16.0 (SPSS Inc.) and P<0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: BRAK was significantly lower (3997 ± 247.1 pg/ml vs. 5106.4 ± 314.6 pg/ml, P=0.006) whereas April was higher (799.2 ± 112.9 pg/ml vs. 468.0 ± 68.0 pg/ml, P=0.011) in patients with endometriosis. BRAK and April showed AUC of 0.634 (95% CI 0.556-0.731, P=0.002) and 0.696 (95% CI 0.549-0.726, P=0.004), respectively. The CA125 showed AUC of 0.838 (95% CI 0.734-0.937, P=0.001). In combination AUC of BRAK, April and CA 125, it showed AUC of 0.852 (95% CI 0.756-0.948, P=0.003). Among patients with endometriosis, IL-24 and IFN3 were significantly higher in moderate-severe (rAFS III-IV stage) than minimal-mild (rAFS I-II stage) endometriosis group. (IL-24; 0.1917 ± 0.0237 ng/ml (N=6) vs. 0.3847 ± 0.02664 ng/ml (N=59), P = 0.026) (IFN3; 9.14 ± 2.39 pg/ml (N=6) vs. 409.1 ± 56.2 pg/ml (N=59), P = 0.028) Conclusion: With multiplex assay, we identified several cytokines that are differentially expressed in serum of the patients with endometriosis. In addition, we also identified several cytokines that can distinguish between miminal-mild and moderate-severe endometriosis. Further research is warranted to evaluate clinical usefulness of these cytokines.

<P>In Arabidopsis, the NMD-defective mutants upf1-5 and upf3-1 are characterized by dwarfism, curly leaves and late flowering. These phenotypes are similar to those of mutants showing constitutive pathogenesis-related (PR) gene expression, salicylic acid (SA) accumulation and, subsequently, resistance to pathogens. The disease symptoms of upf1-5 and upf3-1 mutants were observed following infection with the virulent pathogen Pst DC3000 with the aim of determining whether the loss of nonsense-mediated mRNA decay (NMD) is involved in disease resistance. These mutant plants showed not only enhanced resistance to Pst DC3000, but also elevated levels of endogenous SA, PR gene transcripts and WRKY transcripts. UPF1 and UPF3 expression was down-regulated in Pst DC3000-infected Arabidopsis plants, but the expression of various NMD target genes was up-regulated. The expression of 10 defense-related genes was elevated in cycloheximide (CHX)-treated plants. The transcriptional ratios of eight of these 10 defense-related genes in CHX-treated to non-treated plants were lower in NMD-defective mutants than in the wild-type plants. These eight defense-related genes are possibly regulated by the NMD mechanism, and it is clear that an alternatively spliced transcript of WRKY62, which contains a premature termination codon, was regulated by this mechanism. Taken together, our results suggest that UPF1 and UPF3, which are key NMD factors, may act as defense-related regulators associated with plant immunity.</P>
