New vinyl derivatives of furan and pyrrole, such as (E)-4-methyl-1-(2-pyrryl) penten-3-one(6d),(E)-1-(2-furyl)-3-(p-ethylphenyl)propen-e- one(6b'),(E)-1-(2-furyl)-3-(p-chlorophenyl)propen-3-one(6c'), (E)-1-(2-furyl)-3-(p-methoxyphenyl)propen-3-one(6d'),(E)-1-(2-furyl)-3-(m-nitrophenyl)-propen-one(6e') and (E)-1-(1-methyl-2-pyrryl)buten-3-one(12a) were prepared by the condensation of furfural and 1-methyl-2-formylpyrrole with the corresponding compounds having active methylene group. The reduction of compound(6d) with NaBH₄gave only (E)-4-methyl-1-(2-furyl) penten-3-ol(9d). In the application of the Huang-Minlon modification under the same condition, the reduction of vinylpyrrole deribatives gave 1-(1-methy1-2-pyrryl) butane(13a)and 1-(1-methyl-2-pyrryl)-3-phenylpropane(13a'), but vinylfuran derivatives were not reduced to the corresponding alkyl derivatives of furan because of their easy polymerization at low temperature.

Substituent effects on the electron delocalizability of derivatives of vinylpyrrole and pyrrole imine have been examined in MeOH solution by ultraviolet spectrophotometry. The effects did not appear to be additive, but longer wavelength shift due to conjugation and electron withdrowing group. Specially, the significant difference in ?? for derivatives of pyrrole imine was seem to be caused by the conjugation effect and the position of the substituents.

A glucose sensor electrode was prepared with multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) because of its effect on surface modification through oxyfluorination. The oxyfluorination of MWNTs was carried out with F2:O2 ratios of 7:3, 5:5 and 3:7, which are labeled F7O3-MWNT, F5O5-MWNT, and F3O7-MWNT,based on the oxyfluorination conditions. The hydrophilic functional groups were introduced effectively on the hydrophobic carbon surface. In addition, the amorphous area of the MWNTs was affected by oxyfluorination. The reactivity of the glucose sensor was affected by the oxyfluorination treatment and the existence of amorphous on MWNTs. The optimum O/F percentage was approximately 50%. Therefore, the oxyfluorination conditions are important with amorphous MWNTs. The sensitivity was improved based on the effects of improved interface affinity between the enzyme and the carbon electrode. In addition, the presence of an amorphous area on MWNTs seems to be beneficial for efficient glucose oxidase immobilization, which results in high-performance glucose sensing.

Korean Medical Therapy for Knee Pain after Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction

Objectives : The aim of this study was to report the effect of Korean medical therapy on pain and dysfunction after anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction. Methods : A 25-year-old man experienced severe pain after right ACL reconstruction surgery. He received Korean medical treatments such as acupuncture, herbal medicine, and physiotherapy from July 10, 2014 to August 2, 2014. Results : After the treatments, his visual analogue scale scores generally decreased and the range of motion of the right knee improved from $0^{\circ}$ to $90^{\circ}$. Furthermore, the Knee Infury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score increased from 99 to 142. Conclusion : The findings suggest that Korean medical treatments might be effectively used to treat pain and dysfunction after soft-tissue surgeries such as ACL reconstruction. Nevertheless, further research is warranted because of the limited sample size of this study.
The extract of natural plant promotes the proliferation of murine spermatogonial stem cells

The aim of this study was to enhance the proliferation efficiency of spermatogonial stem cells (SSCs). In order to improve the proliferation efficiency, we investigated new factors that promote the proliferation of SSCs using in vitro culture method with natural plant extracts. Germ cell populations containing SSCs were collected 6- to 8-days-old from C57BL/6-TG-EGFP (C57GFP) mice and SSCs were isolated from the collected cells via magnetic-activated cell sorting (MACS). Since then, SSCs were cultured for a week with culture medium containing natural plant extracts at concentration of 0.1, 1, and 10 μg/mL. After a week of culture, we looked for an increase, especially a dose-dependent increase, in the number of cells compared to that of the control group. A dose-dependent increase, in the number of cells was observed in the Petasides japonicus-treated groups. Furthermore, we carried out repeated experiment that is process consisting of selection and additional segmentation to explore new factors for activating SSCs at the molecular level. As a results, Petasides japonicus butanol fraction significantly increased the proliferation rate of SSCs in a dose-dependent manner among Petasides japonicus fraction samples. We identified normal expression level of PLZF in SSCs cultured with plant extracts using immunocytochemistry method. Furthermore, we also carried out qRT-PCR and identified normal expression level of Lhx1 and GFRα1. The finding of this study could contribute to improvement of proliferation and activation for SSCs, using culture method with natural plant extracts.
컬러광을 활용한 발반사요법이 인체 생리적 반응 변화에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구

Recently, people have been suffering from stress-related fatigue and psychological disorders. Most people depend on medicine for pain relief; many treat pain also through alternative medicine or replacement therapy. However, drug therapy has many side effects, including increased stress after the therapy. In comparison, alternative therapies such as massage and foot reflexology are less damaging to the body, and such therapies can be provided without physical or psychological discomfort. In this regard, the author had previously co-developed color foot reflexology, which combines the merits of color therapy and foot reflexology; color foot reflexology has been shown to have beneficial effects without undue pain. This study investigates the effects of color foot reflexology on the physiological response of the body by comparing the body`s response to the signal with that to the placebo. Healthy adult subjects were selected for the experiment, which was conducted under optimal experimental conditions and design. The results indicated that when stimulated, parasympathetic nerves increased in HRV and that blood pressure, pulse, body heat, peripheral blood flow were dramatically activated. However, the results for the placebo indicated minimal changes or irregular outcomes. The results provide strong evidence for the beneficial effects of the color foot reflexology instrument on the autonomic nervous system and on the physiological response of the body. Future research is warranted to verify the results of the current study by examining patients suffering from diseases and disorders arising from irregular physiological functions in the context of the foot.
