Substitutional Effects of Na in the YB$a_2Cu_3O_{7-y}$ Oxide Superconductors

Sodium substituted samples of $Y_{1-x}Na_xBa_2Cu_3O_{7-y}$ for $0.00{\leq}x{\leq}0.16$ were prepared and characterized by X-ray powder pattern, electrical resistivity and magnetic susceptibility measurements, Raman spectroscopy, and idometric titration. The Na substituted compounds have narrow solid solution limits where $0.00{\leq}x{\leq}0.16.$ As the Na concentration increases, the parent orthorhombic structure tends to gradually change to tetragonal. Small changes in the superconducting transition temperature, Tc, are observed in this solid solution region. Raman spectra for the Na phases are virtually identical with that of $YBa_2Cu_3O_7$ except that the Cu(1)-O(4) stretching mode at 504 $cm^{-1}$ and the Cu(2)-O(2,3) bending mode at 340 $cm^{-1}$ for x = 0.16 are slightly shifted. The hole concentrations of the sodium substituted compounds ranged from 0.31 to 0.33 per Cu site are increased with Na content. The substitution of $Na^+$ for $Y^{3+}$ site appears to create oxygen vacancies in the Cu-O chains, causes structural change from orthorhombic to tetragonal, and increases hole concentration in the substituted system.

Psoriatic arthritis is an immune-mediated chronic inflammatory disease triggered and maintained by inflammatory mediators, including tumor necrosis factor-α. Although TNF-α antagonist is effective for the treatment of psoriatic arthritis, infections caused by tuberculosis or fungus have emerged as significant complications of therapy. We report a case of pulmonary cryptococcosis in a patient with psoriatic arthritis treated with adalimumab.
Fabrication of Rod-Shaped Photonic Structures Using Self-Assembled Colloidal Particles

<P>In this paper, we propose a simple self-assembly technique to fabricate rectangular rod-shaped photonic structures with micrometer-scale thickness and width using silica nanoparticles. Colloidal nanoparticles were crystallized from the colloidal suspensions injecting the micro-channels with hydrophilic substrates, and then a lot of rectangular rods were rapidly fabricated with relatively low defects by a rotational drying process. The fabricated micro-rods have a specific structural color and a rectangular cross-section where the width is about 1 similar to 2 times larger than the thickness, which is identical to the gap of the micro-channel. As the gap is decreased, the ratio of the width to the thickness of the rectangular rods and the structural irregularity become increasing.</P>

<P>Highly conjugated azines were prepared by solid state grinding of solid hydrazine and carbonyl compounds such as aldehydes and ketones, using a mortar and a pestle. Complete conversion to the azine product is generally achieved at room temperature within 24 h, without using solvents or additives. The solid-state reactions afford azines as the sole products with greater than 97% yield, producing only water and carbon dioxide as waste.</P>
Collapse of Charge Ordering in Ru - doped Mono - layered Manganites

The magnetic and transport properties for single crystals of Ru-doped mono-layered manganites La_(0.5)Sr_(1.5)Mn_(1-x)Ru_xO₄ (0 ≤ x ≤ 0.1) have been studied using neutron diffraction and magnetization measurements. Temperature dependent magnetization data reveal that with an increase in the Ru concentration the parent charge ordered antiferromagnetic state is gradually destroyed and new ferromagnetic phase evolves. In the low Rudoped system spin glass behavior is apparent in low temperature region, which is confirmed by ac and dc magnetization measurements. The competing magnetic interaction between Mn/Mn and Mn/Ru couples is the most likely cause of the spin glass transition.

<P>A dual catalyst containing Pd and CuFe<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>4</SUB> nanoparticles in a silica shell exhibits >98% conversion of arylacetylenes to related styrenes with selectivity greater than 98%, which are better than those obtained using a commercial Lindlar catalyst. Many researches on artificially fabricated photonic crystal structures has been developed in various fields. Recently, a great attention has been paid on the coloring technology mimicking the structural colors of the living organisms such as Morpho butterfly and peacock. However, previously developed methods have limitations to fabricate 3-dimensional photonic crystals in large scales without defection. In this paper, we propose a new fabrication method for the large-scale photonic crystal structures generating structural colors by improving and combining the dip coating and capillary methods.

<P>A solid hydrazine was isolated as a crystalline powder by reacting aqueous hydrazine with supercritical CO<SUB>2</SUB>. Its structure determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction shows a zwitterionic form of NH<SUB>3</SUB><SUP>+</SUP>NHCO<SUB>2</SUB><SUP>−</SUP>.
