        The Temporal Hyper-Morbidity of Asthma and Attention Deficit Disorder: Implications for Interpretation Based on Comparison of Prospective and Cross-Sectional Population Samples

        Objective The purpose of this study was to test the hypothesis that a significant temporal relationship exists between asthma and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Methods The population dataset consisted of 95,846,511 physician diagnoses for 768,460 (46% male) individuals spanning 1993-2010. Four groups were labeled as having neither Asthma nor ADHD, Asthma only, ADHD only, or both Asthma and ADHD and formed the basis of calculating the odds ratios for each sex describing the association of Asthma and ADHD by age, and, in addition, a prospective sample age (<5 years) between 1993 and 1996 was utilized to evaluate the temporal association between Asthma and ADHD. Results There was a significant relationship between ADHD and Asthma within the age strata of the sample, one from the cohort and two from the whole sample. When both ADHD and Asthma were diagnosed in the same patients, the age was younger in both cross-sectional and prospective cohort samples. ADHD arose significantly more often after Asthma in the cross-sectional samples stratified on age and in the prospective cohort sample. Conclusion The results are consistent with previous literature where ADHD has been linked to allergic diseases, such as asthma.

        近代漢語三音詞的修辭特點硏究

        근대 중국어의 3음절어는 구조 방식, 의미 구성, 통사에서 독특한 특징을 가진다. 이를 4가지 측면에서 살펴보면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 의미에 있어 정합성, 유동성, 단순성, 안정성을 가진다. 둘째, 구조에 있어 폐쇄성, 고정성을 가진다. 셋째, 구조적 층차 및 구성성분의 형태에 있어 특징을 가진다. 넷째, 단어의 구성성분들이 일정한 순서에 의해 결합한다. 또 근대 중국어 3음절어는 독특한 수사적 특징을 가지는데, 이를 5가지 측면에서 살펴보면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 선명한 형상색채를 가진다. 이러한 3음절 형상어는 直指형상어와 ?指、代指、?指 등의 曲指형상어로 나뉜다. 둘째, 풍부한 감정색채를 가진다. 감정색채의 3음절어는 주로 긍정 의미류와 부정 의미류로 나뉜다. 셋째, 통속적인 구어색채를 가진다. 이는 주로 사물을 묘사하는 분별성, 구체성, 상세성으로 드러난다. 넷째, 진한 민속색채를 가진다. 이때 민속은 3가지 체계로 나뉘는데, 물질적 체계의 전통민속, 행위적 체계의 전통민속, 관념적 체계의 전통민속이다. 다섯째, 3음절어는 유창한 음률성을 가진다. 이러한 음률성은 주로 3음절어 음운의 홀수와 짝수의 결합에서 현저하다.

        Low breeding success of the little egret (Egretta garzetta) near residential areas and in colonies exposed to gales: a comparison of colony in Sichuan, Southwest China, with literature

        The breeding biology of the little egret (Egretta garzetta) was studied in 20 nests within the mixed-species breeding colonies at Nanchong, Sichuan, Southwest China, in 2006. By measuring a set of physical characteristics of vegetation at the nests and at a set of 20 randomly chosen sites we showed that birds preferentially used taller trees in areas with fewer shrubs of higher species diversity. Nests at lower locations in trees had marginally lower hatching success due to their destruction by humans; this destruction contributed marginally significantly to lowering of the total nesting success in all studied nests. Although gale winds also had a negative effect on breeding success, the anthropogenic influences were a greater factor in reproductive failure. We found similar effects in our review of literature on breeding success of the little egret from various geographical areas. Our results may be of use by conservation organizations in their actions to protect colonies of the little egret.

        Design and Performance Analysis of Networked Predictive Control Systems Based on Input-Output Difference Equation Model

        This paper is concerned with the design and performance analysis of networked control systems, whererandom network-induced delay, packet disorder, and packet dropout in the feedback and forward channels areconsidered simultaneously and further treated as the round-trip time (RTT) delay. To actively compensate forthe RTT delay, a networked predictive control scheme is designed based on the input-output difference equationmodel. For time-varying reference signals, the resulting closed-loop system can achieve the same output trackingperformance and closed-loop stability as the corresponding local control system. Specifically, for the step referenceinput, it can provide a zero steady-state output tracking error. The controller design problem is solved by usingthe augmented state-space model as well as the static output feedback strategy. In addition, the stability of theclosed-loop system is also discussed for the plant subject to bounded disturbances and modelling errors. Finally,simulation and experimental results are given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

        Impact of a Glyphosate-Tolerant Soybean Line on the Rhizobacteria, Revealed by Illumina MiSeq

        The global commercial cultivation of transgenic crops, including glyphosate-tolerant soybean, has increased widely in recent decades with potential impact on the environment. The bulk of previous studies showed different results on the effects of the release of transgenic plants on the soil microbial community, especially rhizosphere bacteria. In this study, comparative analyses of the bacterial communities in the rhizosphere soils and surrounding soils were performed between the glyphosate-tolerant soybean line NZL06-698 (or simply N698), containing a glyphosate-insensitive EPSPS gene, and its control cultivar Mengdou12 (or simply MD12), by a 16S ribosomal RNA gene (16S rDNA) amplicon sequencing-based Illumina MiSeq platform. No statistically significant difference was found in the overall alpha diversity of the rhizosphere bacterial communities, although the species richness and evenness of the bacteria increased in the rhizosphere of N698 compared with that of MD12. Some influence on phylogenetic diversity of the rhizosphere bacterial communities was found between N698 and MD12 by beta diversity analysis based on weighted UniFrac distance. Furthermore, the relative abundances of part rhizosphere bacterial phyla and genera, which included some nitrogen-fixing bacteria, were significantly different between N698 and MD12. Our present results indicate some impact of the glyphosate-tolerant soybean line N698 on the phylogenetic diversity of rhizosphere bacterial communities together with a significant difference in the relative abundances of part rhizosphere bacteria at different classification levels as compared with its control cultivar MD12, when a comparative analysis of surrounding soils between N698 and MD12 was used as a systematic contrast study.

        Analysis and prediction of wind turbine bolts based on GPR method

        With the variance of preload and vibration in working conditions, wind turbine bolt loosening is difficult to predict accurately. To address the problem, wind turbine bolts are employed as the study object, and the loosening mechanism of bolts as well as the prediction of preload variation are investigated by means of finite element analysis. The result shows that, under the action of transverse vibration load, the magnitude of vibration load is the main factor affecting the loosening, and the larger the load magnitude, the more likely the loosening occurs. Besides, a bolt loosening prediction model based on Gaussian process regression is developed to obtain confidence intervals for the variation of the preload in a probabilistic sense. This study provides a theoretical basis for solving the problem of bolt loosening and preload relaxation in wind power under vibration conditions, and improves the safety and reliability of wind turbine operation.

      • Differential pathways for calcium influx activated by concanavalin A and CD3 stimulation in Jurkat T cells.

        <P>Sustained increase in [Ca(2+)](c) (δ[Ca(2+)](c)) is a critical early signal from T-cell receptor (TCR/CD3). In general, Ca(2+)-release activated Ca(2+) channels (CRAC) are responsible for the Ca(2+) influx and δ[Ca(2+)](c) after TCR/CD3 stimulation. However, T cells also express Ca(2+)-permeable nonselective cation channels such as TRPM2 and TRPC. Gd(3+) is a relatively selective blocker for CRAC at micromolar concentrations. Here, Jurkat T cells were used to investigate the Gd(3+)-resistant Ca(2+) influx (δ[Ca(2+)](c,Gd)) induced by concanavalin A (ConA, 1?μg/ml), a widely used mitogenic agent for T cells, or by anti-CD3 Ab (αCD3). αCD3-induced δ[Ca(2+)](c) was partly (~60%) inhibited by 1?μM Gd(3+) while thapsigargin-induced δ[Ca(2+)] was almost completely abolished. ConA-induced δ[Ca(2+)] was mostly inhibited by 1?μM Gd(3+) during the early phase (<30?s of ConA application) and became resistant during the late phase (>2?min). Induction of δ[Ca(2+)](c,Gd) by αCD3 and ConA was inhibited by 2-aminoethoxydiphenyl borate (2-APB) and by N-(p-amylcinnamoyl) anthranilic acid, indicating that TRPM2 and TRPC are involved in this process. Treatment with Pyr-3, a TRPC3-specific inhibitor, potently suppressed δ[Ca(2+)](c,Gd) by αCD3 (IC(50), 0.16?μM). Patch clamp experiments demonstrated that the TRPM2 channels were activated by ConA, and the TRPC-like channels were activated by αCD3. Our present study suggests that TRPM2 and TRPC3 are activated by ConA and TCR/CD3, respectively, in Jurkat T cells and are responsible for the induction of δ[Ca(2+)](c,Gd).</P>

        Design method for self-healing capability of resin mineral composites with microcapsule based on cohesive element

        The self-healing of resin mineral composites by adding microcapsules has been widely used. However, it is difficult to determine the proportion of microcapsule to obtain the optimal self-healing performance because of the contradictory characteristics between the selfhealing efficiency and elastic modulus of composites. To address this problem, this study proposes a novel method to optimize the proportion of microcapsule under the constraints of engineering design requirements. The results show that (1) the damage evolution of self-healing resin mineral composites with microcapsule can be divided into four processes: damage accumulation, bond interface crack appearing, matrix crack appearing and fracture surface formation. (2) The position of aggregate has little effect on the mechanical properties of the overall composites structure, but it plays a decisive role in the distribution and size of cracks. (3) The relationship between the self-healing efficiency and the proportion of microcapsule is a nonlinear positive correlation, but the elastic modulus is a nonlinear negative correlation with the proportion of microcapsule. (4) The optimization results show that the optimal microcapsule proportion of a resin mineral composite machine tool is 1.68 %; at this time the mechanical properties of the material are reduced by 2.9 % and the self-healing efficiency is 25.38 %. The results provide a reference for the damage performance research and engineering design of microcapsule self-healing composites.

        Separation method of rolling bearing compound fault characteristics based on lmproved harmonic wavelet packet decomposition and fast lCA

        Compound fault characteristics in single-channel vibration signals of rolling bearings are difficult to separate. On the basis of improved harmonic wavelet packet decomposition and fast independent component analysis (FICA), this study proposes a new method to address this problem. First, a series of mutually independent frequency bands are obtained after harmonic wavelet packet decomposition of the initial vibration signal to satisfy the requirement that the number of observed signals must be larger than the number of source signals in the FICA algorithm. Second, the optimal frequency bands are selected based on the maximum kurtosis index and used as the input matrix of the FICA algorithm to separate the compound fault characteristics further. Lastly, accurate separation and extraction of the compound fault characteristics of the rolling bearings are realized. Results show that the proposed method can effectively separate the compound fault characteristics in the single-channel vibration signals of the bearings.

      • A Switching Capacitor Control in Single-Stage AC-DC Reconfigurable RGB-LED Driver

        A single-stage ac-dc LED driver operating in discontinuous conduction mode is presented to realize ac-dc rectification with high power factor and current regulation of red, green, blue (RGB) LEDs in this paper. The features of single-stage architecture reduce component cost and lower circuit size. A switching capacitor control is employed to hop the output voltage instantly for precisely adjusting LED currents. The voltage difference between the green/blue and red LEDs is automatically reflected on a hopping capacitor while the fast hopping scheme can rapidly regulate the output voltage level. The experimental results demonstrate the fast hopping scheme of the ac-dc LED driver and the capability in current regulation.
