        Nonlinear analysis of cable-stayed spatial latticed structures

        The combination of spatial latticed structures (hereafter SLS) and flexible cables, the cable-stayed spatial latticed structures (hereafter CSLS) can cross longer span. According to variation principle, a novel geometric nonlinear formulation for 3-D bar elements considering large displacement and infinitesimal rotation increments with second-order precision is developed. The cable nonlinearity is investigated and it is taken that the secant modulus method can be considered as an exact method for a cable member. The tower column with which the cables link is regarded as a special kind of beam element, and, a new simplified stiffness formulation is presented. The computational strategies for the nonlinear dynamic response of structures are given, and the ultimate load carrying capacities and seismic responses are analyzed numerically. It is noted that, compared with corresponding spatial latticed shells, the cable-stayed spatial latticed shells have more strength and more stiffness, and that the verical seismic responses of both CSLS and CLS are remarkably greater than the horizontal ones. In addition, the computation shows that the stiffness of tower column influences the performance of CSLS to a certain extent and the improvement of structural strength and stiffness of CSLS is relevant not only to cables but also to tower columns.

        Conflict Graph-based Downlink Resource Allocation and Scheduling for Indoor Visible Light Communications

        Visible Light Communication (VLC) using Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) within the existing lightinginfrastructure can reduce the implementation cost and may gain higher throughput than radio frequency(RF) or Infrared (IR) based wireless systems. Current indoor VLC systems may suffer from poor downlinkresource allocation problems and small system throughput. To address these two issues, we propose analgorithm called a conflict graph scheduling (CGS) algorithm, including a conflict graph and a schemethat is based on the conflict graph. The conflict graph can ensure that users are able to transmit datawithout interference. The scheme considers the user fairness and system throughput, so that they both canget optimum values. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can guarantee significantimprovement of system throughput under the premise of fairness.

        Upregulation of miR-223 in the rat liver inhibits proliferation of hepatocytes under simulated microgravity

        Long-term spaceflight affects numerous organ systems in the body, including metabolic dysfunction. Recently, ample evidence has demonstrated that the liver is a vulnerable organ during spaceflight. However, the changes in hepatocyte proliferation and cell cycle control under microgravity remain largely unexplored. In the present study, we first confirmed that the serum levels of aspartate aminotransferase, alanine aminotransferase and alkaline phosphatase, biochemical markers of liver function, were altered in rats under tail suspension (TS) conditions to simulate microgravity, as shown in previous reports. Next, we demonstrated that the cell proliferation activity, determined by Ki67, PCNA and PH3, was significantly decreased at the different TS time points (TS for 14, 28 and 42 days) compared with that in the control group. Consistently, the positive cell cycle regulators Ccna2, Ccnd1, Cdk1, Cdk2 and cyclin D3 were also significantly decreased in the TS groups as shown by quantitative real-time PCR and western blotting analysis. Subsequent analysis revealed that the aberrant hepatocyte proliferation inhibition under simulated microgravity was associated with the upregulation of miR-223 in the liver. We further found that miR-223 inhibited the proliferation of Hepa1-6 cells and identified CDK2 and CUL1 as its direct targets. In addition, the decreased expression of CDK2 and CUL1 was negatively correlated with the level of p27 in vitro and in vivo, which may have been responsible for retarding hepatocyte proliferation. Collectively, these data indicate that upregulation of miR-223 was associated with the inhibition of liver cell growth and reveal the role of miR-223 in rat hepatocyte proliferation disorders and the pathophysiological process under simulated microgravity.

        Consistent Determinations of the Diffusion- and Reaction-rate Coefficients for Photoactive Monomers under Holographic Exposure

        An analytical method was applied for quantitative determinations of the initial rate coefficients of diffusion and reaction for a photo-curable recipe in holographic photo-polymerization. The results showed that the initial diffusion rate kept within small discrepancy despite an order of magnitude difference in the curing light power, while corresponding differences were found for the decay constants of diffusion and reaction in the curing process. Polymerization kinetics was analyzed for both curing and post curing processes.
