        One-step synthesis of mesoporous sulfated zirconia nanoparticles with anionic template

        Mesoporous sulfated zirconia nanoparticles (MSZNP) with high surface area have been synthesized by using sodium dodecyl sulfate (C12H25OSO3Na, SDS), both as a template and a sulfating agent via one-step route. On the basis of FT-IR, EDS together with NH3-TPD analyses, the SO42− anion, originated from the hydrophilic head of SDS, can be incorporated into ZrO2 to form MSZNP with super-acidity. The phase transition of ZrO2 from tetragonal to monoclinic phase was effectively inhibited by the presence of SO42−, and the formation mechanism was illustrated in detail. MSZNP(550) achieved far higher activity than CSZ(550) in transesterification of soybean oil with methanol due to the synergistic effect of strong acidity, high BET surface area and the formation of mesostructure.

        Expression patterns of TRα and CRABPII genes in Chinese cashmere goat skin during prenatal development

        Background: The physiologic characteristics of the cashmere trait and many of the differentially expressed genes relevant to hair cycling have been extensively studied, whereas genes involved in the prenatal development of hair follicles have been poorly investigated in cashmere goats. The aim of this study, therefore, was to quantify the time-course changes in the expressions of $TR{\alpha}$ and CRABPII genes in the fetal skin of Chinese cashmere goats at the multiple embryonic days (E70, E75, E80, E90, E100, E120 and E130) using real-time quantitative PCR (RT-qPCR). Results: RT-qPCR showed that $TR{\alpha}$ was expressed at E70 with relatively high level and then slightly decreased (E75, E80, and E90). The highest expression of $TR{\alpha}$ mRNA was revealed at E130 (P > 0.05). The expression pattern of CRABPII mRNA showed an 'up-down-up' trend, which revealed a significantly highest expression at E75 (P < 0.05) and was down-regulated during E80 to E120 (P < 0.05) and mildly increased at E130, subsequently. Conclusion: This study demonstrated that $TR{\alpha}$ and CRABPII genes expressed in different levels during prenatal development of cashmere. The present study will be helpful to provide the comprehensive understanding of $TR{\alpha}$ and CRABPII genes expressions during cashmere formation and lay the ground for further studies on their roles in regulation of cashmere growth in goats.

        Quality-Related Process Monitoring Based on a Bayesian Classifier

        Multivariate statistical analysis approaches are extensively employed in process monitoring because they can effectively detect abnormal conditions in industrial processes. However, both Gaussian and non-Gaussian variables are often present in industrial processes. A single multivariate statistical process monitoring method often has difficulty simultaneously dealing with variable information of mixed distribution characteristics. This paper proposes a multivariate quality-related process monitoring method based on a Bayesian classifier to address this issue. The proposed method separates the variables into Gaussian and non-Gaussian parts using a Jarque–Bera test. Then, Gaussian and non-Gaussian properties are extracted through modified kernel partial least squares and kernel independent component analysis. After feature extraction, a Bayesian-based classifier relevance vector machine is constructed to monitor quality-related information of the process, which avoids the construction of a threshold in conventional methods and offsets the drawbacks of insufficient single statistic information. A numerical simulation and the Tennessee-Eastman process verify the effectiveness of the method.

        Estimating equation for additive hazards model with censored length-biased data

        Aalen’s additive hazards model plays a very important role in survival analysis. In this paper we are interested in the problem of estimating regression coefficients in the additive hazards model with censored length-biased data. Through both of the parametric invariance of the proportional likelihood ratio model and the unique structure of length-biased data, we propose a pairwise pseudo-likelihood estimating equation, which only relies on the complete residual lifetimes in censored length-biased data. In addition, two combined estimating equations are also considered to estimate covariate coefficients. These estimators are proved to be consistent and asymptotically normal. In order to evaluate the performance of the proposed estimators in a finite sample, some simulations are conducted. Finally, a real data example is also provided.

        Damage assessment in periodic structures from measured natural frequencies by a sensitivity and transfer matrix-based method

        This paper presents a damage assessment procedure applied to periodic spring mass systems using an eigenvalue sensitivity-based method. The damage is directly related to the stiffness reduction of the damage element. The natural frequencies of periodic structures with one single disorder are found by adopting the transfer matrix approach, consequently, the first order approximation of the natural frequencies with respect to the disordered stiffness in different elements is used to form the sensitivity matrix. The analysis shows that the sensitivity of natural frequencies to damage in different locations depends only on the mode number and the location of damage. The stiffness changes due to damage can be identified by solving a set of underdetermined equations based on the sensitivity matrix. The issues associated with many possible damage locations in large structural systems are addressed, and a means of improving the computational efficiency of damage detection while maintaining the accuracy for large periodic structures with limited available measured natural frequencies, is also introduced in this paper. The incomplete measurements and the effect of random error in terms of measurement noise in the natural frequencies are considered. Numerical results of a periodic spring-mass system of 20 degrees of freedom illustrate that the proposed method is simple and robust in locating single or multiple damages in a large periodic structure with a high computational efficiency.

        Attribute Set Based Signature Secure in the Standard Model

        We introduce attribute set based signature (ASBS), a new cryptographic primitive which organizes user attributes into a recursive set based structure such that dynamic constraints can be imposed on how those attributes may be combined to satisfy a signing policy. Compared with attribute based signature (ABS), ASBS is more flexible and efficient in managing user attributes and specifying signing policies. We present a practical construction of ASBS and prove its security in the standard model under three subgroup decision related assumptions. Its efficiency is comparable to that of the most efficient ABS scheme.

      • Molybdenum substitution induced luminescence enhancement in Gd<sub>2</sub>W<sub>1-<i>x</i> </sub>Mo<sub> <i>x</i> </sub>O<sub>6</sub>:Eu<sup>3+</sup> phosphors for near ultraviolet based solid-state lighting

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>A series of the Eu<SUP>3+</SUP>-activated Gd<SUB>2</SUB>W<SUB>1-<I>x</I> </SUB>Mo<SUB> <I>x</I> </SUB>O<SUB>6</SUB> phosphors were synthesized by a high-temperature solid-state reaction method. The phase composition, ultraviolet-visible diffuse reflectance spectra, photoluminescence and decay properties of the phosphors were investigated. Through adjusting the Mo<SUP>6+</SUP> ion concentration, the excitation band of the studied sample was gradually shifted to longer wavelength. Under 376 nm excitation, the strong red emission at 610 nm and weak yellow emission centered at 591 nm were detected, indicating that Eu<SUP>3+</SUP> occupies non-inversion symmetry sites in the host lattices. With elevating the dopant concentration, the emission intensity of synthesized products was greatly enhanced and achieved its optimum value when <I>x</I> = 0.95 which was 2.33 times higher than that of the Gd<SUB>2</SUB>WO<SUB>6</SUB>:Eu<SUP>3+</SUP> compounds. The quantum efficiency of resultant samples was as high as 76.1%. Moreover, the Judd-Oflet theory was used to study the local structure environment behaviors of the Eu<SUP>3+</SUP> ions in the host lattices. Finally, a red LED device, which consisted of a near-ultraviolet chip and prepared Gd<SUB>2</SUB>W<SUB>0.05</SUB>Mo<SUB>0.95</SUB>O<SUB>6</SUB>:Eu<SUP>3+</SUP> phosphors, was successfully fabricated. These results confirmed that the Eu<SUP>3+</SUP>-doped Gd<SUB>2</SUB>W<SUB>1-<I>x</I> </SUB>Mo<SUB> <I>x</I> </SUB>O<SUB>6</SUB> phosphors have potential value as the red component for WLEDs.</P>

        Investigation of synergistic adsorption between methyl orange and Cd(II) from binary mixtures on magnesium hydroxide modified clinoptilolite

        The simultaneous removal of Methyl orange (MO) and Cd2+ (mainly from organo-metallic dyes) onto magnesium hydroxide modified clinoptilolite (MHMC) was described and compared to a single adsorbate situation. The adsorption performance was studied by batch experiments. The adsorption mechanism of MO and Cd2+ on MHMC was investigated. Langmuir and Dubinin-Raduskevich (D-R) isotherm successfully predicted the adsorption of MO and Cd2+ in single and binary systems. Maximum adsorption capacity calculated from Langmuir isotherm equation in single solution for MO and Cd2+ was 0.305 and 0.282mmol/g, respectively. In a binary system of MO/Cd2+, the adsorption capacity for both MO and Cd2+ was higher than in single solutions. The results indicated that the adsorption system of MO/Cd2+ presented a synergistic effect, not competitive adsorption, which suggested that MHMC can be used as an adsorbent for removal of dyes and heavy metal in the multi-solute system.

        Ovarian transcriptomic analysis of Shan Ma ducks at peak and late stages of egg production

        Objective: To assess the differences in ovarian transcriptomes in Shan Ma ducks between their peak and late stages of egg production, and to obtain new transcriptomic data of these egg-producing ducks. Methods: The Illumina HiSeq 2000 system was used for high throughput sequencing of ovarian transcriptomes from Shan Ma ducks at their peak or late stages of egg production. Results: Greater than 93% of the sequencing data had a base quality score (Q score) that was not less than 20 (Q20). From ducks at their peak stage of egg production, 42,782,676 reads were obtained, with 4,307,499,083 bp sequenced. From ducks at their late stage of egg production, 45,316,166 reads were obtained, with 4,562,063,363 bp sequenced. A comparison of the two datasets identified 2,002 differentially expressed genes, with 790 upregulated and 1,212 downregulated. Further analysis showed that 1,645 of the 2,002 differentially expressed genes were annotated in the non-redundant (NR) database, with 646 upregulated and 999 downregulated. Among the differentially expressed genes with annotations in the NR database, 696 genes were functionally annotated in the clusters of orthologous groups of proteins database, involving 25 functional categories. One thousand two hundred four of the differentially expressed genes with annotations in the NR database were functionally annotated in the gene ontology (GO) database, and could be divided into three domains and 56 categories. The three domains were cellular component, molecular function, and biological process. Among the genes identified in the GO database, 451 are involved in development and reproduction. Analysis of the differentially expressed genes with annotations in the NR database against the Kyoto encyclopedia of genes and genomes database revealed that 446 of the genes could be assigned to 175 metabolic pathways, of which the peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor signaling pathway, insulin signaling pathway, fructose and mannose metabolic pathways, gonadotropin releasing hormone signaling pathway and transforming growth factor beta signaling pathway were significantly enriched. Conclusion: The differences in ovarian transcriptomes in Shan Ma ducks between their peak and late stages of egg production were elucidated, which greatly enriched the ovarian transcriptomic information of egg-producing ducks.
