Medial and Lateral Discoid Menisci of Both Knees

( Hiroyuki Kan ),( Yuji Arai ),( Shuji Nakagawa ),( Hiroaki Inoue ),( Ginjiro Minami ),( Kazuya Ikoma ),( Hiroyoshi Fujiwara ),( Toshikazu Kubo ) 대한슬관절학회 2016 대한슬관절학회지 Vol.28 No.4

Discoid menisci on both the medial and lateral sides are rare, and there are very few reports on cases involving both sides. We report a case of a 52-year-old female with medial and lateral discoid menisci in both knees. Arthroscopy revealed the lateral menisci of both knees were complete discoid menisci, and partial meniscectomy was performed. The medial menisci were incomplete discoid menisci, but there were no findings of abnormal mobility or injury; therefore, the medial menisci were observed without treatment. At six months postoperatively, her pain and range of motion restrictions disappeared.

Exploratory Methods for Joint Distribution Valued Data and Their Application

Igarashi, Kazuto,Minami, Hiroyuki,Mizuta, Masahiro The Korean Statistical Society 2015 Communications for statistical applications and me Vol.22 No.3

In this paper, we propose hierarchical cluster analysis and multidimensional scaling for joint distribution valued data. Information technology is increasing the necessity of statistical methods for large and complex data. Symbolic Data Analysis (SDA) is an attractive framework for the data. In SDA, target objects are typically represented by aggregated data. Most methods on SDA deal with objects represented as intervals and histograms. However, those methods cannot consider information among variables including correlation. In addition, objects represented as a joint distribution can contain information among variables. Therefore, we focus on methods for joint distribution valued data. We expanded the two well-known exploratory methods using the dissimilarities adopted Hall Type relative projection index among joint distribution valued data. We show a simulation study and an actual example of proposed methods.

Symbolic Cluster Analysis for Distribution Valued Dissimilarity

Matsui, Yusuke,Minami, Hiroyuki,Misuta, Masahiro The Korean Statistical Society 2014 Communications for statistical applications and me Vol.21 No.3

We propose a novel hierarchical clustering for distribution valued dissimilarities. Analysis of large and complex data has attracted significant interest. Symbolic Data Analysis (SDA) was proposed by Diday in 1980's, which provides a new framework for statistical analysis. In SDA, we analyze an object with internal variation, including an interval, a histogram and a distribution, called a symbolic object. In the study, we focus on a cluster analysis for distribution valued dissimilarities, one of the symbolic objects. A hierarchical clustering has two steps in general: find out step and update step. In the find out step, we find the nearest pair of clusters. We extend it for distribution valued dissimilarities, introducing a measure on their order relations. In the update step, dissimilarities between clusters are redefined by mixture of distributions with a mixing ratio. We show an actual example of the proposed method and a simulation study.

Clinical and MRI Characteristics of Uterine Cervical Adenocarcinoma: Its Variants and Mimics

        Tsukasa Saida,Akiko Sakata,Yumiko Oishi Tanaka,Hiroyuki Ochi,Toshitaka Ishiguro,Masafumi Sakai,Hiroaki Takahashi,Toyomi Satoh,Manabu Minami 대한영상의학회 2019 Korean Journal of Radiology Vol.20 No.3

Adenocarcinoma currently accounts for 10–25% of all uterine cervical carcinomas and has a variety of histopathological subtypes. Among them, mucinous carcinoma gastric type is not associated with high-risk human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and a poor prognosis, while villoglandular carcinoma has an association with high-risk HPV infection and a good prognosis. They show relatively characteristic imaging findings which can be suggested by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), though the former is sometimes difficult to be distinguished from lobular endocervical glandular hyperplasia. Various kinds of other tumors including squamous cell carcinoma should be also differentiated on MRI, while it is currently difficult to distinguish them on MRI, and HPV screening and pathological confirmation are usually necessary for definite diagnosis and further patient management.

Effect of metal conditioner on bonding of porcelain to cobalt-chromium alloy

        Yoshito Minesaki,Sadaaki Murahara,Yutaro Kajihara,Yoshihisa Takenouchi,Takuo Tanaka,Shiro Suzuki,Hiroyuki Minami 대한치과보철학회 2016 The Journal of Advanced Prosthodontics Vol.8 No.1

PURPOSE The purpose of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of two different metal conditioners for non-precious metal alloys for the bonding of porcelain to a cobalt-chromium (Co-Cr) alloy. MATERIALS AND METHODS Disk-shaped specimens (2.5×10.0 mm) were cast with Co-Cr alloy and used as adherend materials. The bonding surfaces were polished with a 600-grid silicon carbide paper and airborne-particle abraded using 110 µm alumina particles. Bonding specimens were fabricated by applying and firing either of the metal conditioners on the airborne-particle abraded surface, followed by firing porcelain into 5 mm in diameter and 3 mm in height. Specimens without metal conditioner were also fabricated. Shear bond strength for each group (n=8) were measured and compared (α=.05). Sectional view of bonding interface was observed by SEM. EDS analysis was performed to determine the chemical elements of metal conditioners and to determine the failure modes after shear test. RESULTS There were significant differences among three groups, and two metal conditioner-applied groups showed significantly higher values compared to the non-metal conditioner group. The SEM observation of the sectional view at bonding interface revealed loose contact at porcelain-alloy surface for non-metal conditioner group, however, close contact at both alloy-metal conditioner and metal conditioner-porcelain interfaces for both metal conditioner-applied groups. All the specimens showed mixed failures. EDS analysis showed that one metal conditioner was Si-based material, and another was Ti-based material. Si-based metal conditioner showed higher bond strengths compared to the Ti-based metal conditioner, but exhibited more porous failure surface failure. CONCLUSION Based on the results of this study, it can be stated that the application of metal conditioner is recommended for the bonding of porcelain to cobalt-chromium alloys.

A multicenter comparative study of endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine-needle biopsy using a Franseen needle versus conventional endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration to evaluate microsatellite instability in patients with unresectable pancre

        Tadayuki Takagi,Mitsuru Sugimoto,Hidemichi Imamura,Yosuke Takahata,Yuki Nakajima,Rei Suzuki,Naoki Konno,Hiroyuki Asama,Yuki Sato,Hiroki Irie,Jun Nakamura,Mika Takasumi,Minami Hashimoto,Tsunetaka Kato 대한소화기내시경학회 2023 Clinical Endoscopy Vol.56 No.1

high tumors. Therefore, sufficient sampling of histological specimens is necessary in cases of unresectable pancreatic cancer (UR-PC). This multicenter study investigated the efficacy of endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine-needle biopsy (EUS-FNB) using a Franseen needlefor MSI evaluation in patients with UR-PC. Methods: A total of 89 patients with UR-PC who underwent endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration (EUS-FNA) orEUS-FNB using 22-G needles at three hospitals in Japan (2018–2021) were enrolled. Fifty-six of these patients (FNB 23 and FNA 33)were followed up or evaluated for MSI. Patient characteristics, UR-PC data, and procedural outcomes were compared between patientswho underwent EUS-FNB and those who underwent EUS-FNA. Results: No significant difference in terms of sufficient tissue acquisition for histology was observed between patients who underwentEUS-FNB and those who underwent EUS-FNA. MSI evaluation was possible significantly more with tissue samples obtained usingEUS-FNB than with tissue samples obtained using EUS-FNA (82.6% [19/23] vs. 45.5% [15/33], respectively; p<0.01). In the multivariateanalysis, EUS-FNB was the only significant factor influencing the possibility of MSI evaluation. Conclusions: EUS-FNB using a Franseen needle is desirable for ensuring sufficient tissue acquisition for MSI evaluation.
