<P>Herein we report a new microwave-assisted synthetic strategy to rapidly prepare hybrid zeolitic-imidazolate frameworks (ZIFs): ZIFs with mixed metal centers and/or mixed linkers. The microwave-based method significantly shortens synthesis time, produces a higher yield, substantially reduces the amounts of ligands, and eliminates the use of deprotonating agents. The X-ray diffraction pattern reveals that mixed metal CoZn-ZIF-8 (i.e., ZIF-8 with both Co and Zn centers) maintains the sodalite (SOD) zeolitic topology from the ZIF-8 parent. Elemental mapping using energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS)and electronic/geometric information obtained from X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) confirm the uniform distribution of tetrahedral Co and Zn metal centers within the same framework of the mixed-metal ZIF. The metal to nitrogen (M-N) stretching frequencies of IR bands were observed to be systematically blue-shifted as the Co/Zn ratio in the mixed metal ZIF increases. Furthermore, for the first time, a hybrid ZIF with both mixed metal centers (Co and Zn) and mixed linkers (2-methylimidazolate and benzimidazolate) was prepared through one-step microwave synthesis. Finally, mixed metal CoZn-ZIF-8 with a Co/Zn ratio of similar to 1 was grown as membranes on porous alpha-Al2O3 supports, showing a higher propylene/propane separation factor (similar to 120) when compared to pure Zn-ZIF-8 membranes (similar to 63) prepared by a similar method.</P>

The developing countries which are beneficiaries of the GSP have reason to seek an objectiviely specified graduation rule to minimize the discretion of the U. S. government regarding who graduates and when. Current rules based on per capita income, however, are not horizontally equitable across countries as they punish openness. We analyze this point in a stylized model of international trade and propose some alternative rules which may have some appeal to policy-makers in the U. S. and developing countries.

Isolation of the culture broth of a marine-derived Acremonium sp. CNQ-049 guided by HPLC-UV yielded compound 1 (3-phenethyl-2-phenylquinazolin-4(3H)-one), and its inhibitory activities against monoamine oxidases (MAOs), cholinesterases (ChEs), and β-secretase 1 (BACE1) were evaluated. Compound 1 was an effective selective MAO-B inhibitor with an IC50 value of 9.39 μM and a selectivity index (SI) value of 4.26 versus MAO-A. In addition, compound 1 showed a potent selective butyrylcholinesterase (BChE) inhibition with an IC50 value of 7.99 μM and an SI value of 5.01 versus acetylcholinesterase (AChE). However, compound 1 showed weak inhibitions against MAO-A, AChE, and BACE1. The Ki value of compound 1 for MAO-B was 5.22±1.73 μM with competitive inhibition, and the Ki value of compound 1 for BChE was 3.00±1.81 μM with mixed-type inhibition. Inhibitions of MAO-B and BChE by compound 1 were recovered by dialysis experiments. These results suggest that compound 1 is a dual-functional reversible inhibitor of MAO-B and BChE, that can be used as a treatment agent for neurological disorders.

구매(혹은 가입이나 취업)에 관한 의사결정과정에서는 그 대상이 되는 재화나 서비스의 질을 미리 경험하지 못하고 선택을 하므로 필연적으로 불확실성과 불완전 정보에 의한 문제가 발생한다. 본 논문에서는 탈퇴(혹은 이직)와 같은 결별(separation)을 재화나 서비스의 질에 대한 불확실성에서 연유하는 문제를 사후적으로 해결하기 위한 합리적 행동으로 모형화하여 분석한다. 본 논문의 주된 분석대상인 미국의 의료보험에서 소비자가 보험을 구매할 때 기대했던 서비스의 질과 구매후 경험한 실제 서비스의 차이가 클수록 소비자는 기존의 보험으로부터 탈퇴할 유인이 커진다. 따라서 소비자가 구매 의사결정과정에서 서비스 질에 관한 기대치를 덜 정확하게 형성할수록 서비스질 기대치와 실제치의 차이가 줄어들어 소비자의 탈퇴는 감소하는데, 평판(reputation)이 잘 작동하는 시장일수록 소비자가 기대되는 서미스 질을 미리 예측하기 쉬워진다. 본 연구는 개발 소비자를 분석단위로 했던 종전의 연구와는 달리 개별 기업을 분석단위로 하여 시장수준에서 평판이 불완전정보하의 소비자행동에 미친 영향을 분석한 데 의의가 크다. We model that separation is a rational decision to resolve the inherent uncertainty about quality form the matching process. In health insurance markets, quality of services is revealed to consumers only after enrollment. Discrepancies between the expected and realizeed quality lead utility-maximizing enrollees to disenroll if they find a better alternative. Accordingly, factors that reduce this discrepancy will decrease disenrollment. The firm-level empirical analysis shows that disenrollment is relatively small in markets where the reputation effect works efficiently becuse consumers can predict the expected quality accurately.

Bioassay and HPLC-UV guided fractionations of the crude extract of marine-derived Streptomyces sp. SNA-077 have led to the isolation of a red pigment, undecylprodigiosin (1). The chemical structure of undecylprodigiosin (1) was revealed by the interpretation of NMR and mass spectroscopic (MS) data. Further, anti-melanogenic effects of undecylprodigiosin (1) were investigated. First, the melanin contents of undecylprodigiosin (1)-treated B16 cells were evaluated. Furthermore, undecylprodigiosin (1) significantly inhibited the key enzymes involved in melanogenesis, including tyrosinase, tyrosinase related protein-1 (TYRP-1), and dopachrome tautomerase (DCT). The mRNA and protein expression levels of Microphthalmia-associated transcriptian factor (MiTF), a critical transcription factor for tyrosinase gene expression, were also suppressed by undecylprodigiosin (1) treatment in B16 analyses. Collectively, our results suggest for the first time that undecylprodigiosin (1), a potent component isolated from an extract of marine Streptomyces sp. SNA-077, critically exerts the anti-melanogenic ability for melanin synthesis.

Methyl anthranilate (MA) is a botanical fragrance used in food flavoring with unexplored potential in anti-pigment cosmetics. MA dose-dependently reduced melanin content without affecting cell viability, inhibited dendrite elongation and melanosome transfer in the co-culture system of human melanoma cells (MNT-1) and human keratinocyte cell line (HaCaT), and downregulated melanogenic genes, including tyrosinase, tyrosinase-related protein 1 and 2 (TRP-1, TRP-2). Additionally, MA decreased cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) production and exhibited a significant anti-pigmentary effect in Melanoderm™. These results suggest that MA is a promising anti-pigmentary agent for replacing or complementing existing anti-pigmentary cosmetics.

Objective: To describe the gene alteration status in high-grade neuroendocrine cervical carcinoma (NECC) specimens and to explore the potential association of unique gene alterations with survival. Methods: Results from tumor-based molecular testing on specimens from women with high-grade NECC in the Neuroendocrine Cervical Tumor Registry were reviewed and analyzed. Tumor specimens could be from primary or metastatic sites and obtained at initial diagnosis, during treatment, or at recurrence. Results: Molecular testing results were available for 109 women with high-grade NECC. The genes most frequently mutated were PIK3CA (mutated in 18.5% of patients), TP53 (17.4%), and MYC (14.5%). Other targetable alterations identified were alterations in KIT (7.3%), KRAS (7.3%), and PTEN (7.3%). Women with tumors having an RB1 alteration (6.4%) had a median overall survival (OS) of 13 months, compared to 26 months for women with tumors that did not have an RB1 alteration (p=0.003). None of the other genes evaluated were shown to be associated with OS. Conclusion: Although no individual alteration was found in a majority of tumor specimens from patients with high-grade NECC, a large proportion of women with this disease will have at least one targetable alteration. Treatments based on these gene alterations may offer additional targeted therapies for women with recurrent disease, who currently have very limited therapeutic options. Patients with tumors that harbor RB1 alterations have decreased OS.

<P>We present synthetic Fourier transform light scattering, a method for measuring extended angle-resolved light scattering (ARLS) from individual microscopic samples. By measuring the light fields scattered from the sample plane and numerically synthesizing them in Fourier space, the angle range of the ARLS patterns is extended up to twice the numerical aperture of the imaging system with unprecedented sensitivity and precision. Extended ARLS patterns of individual microscopic polystyrene beads, healthy human red blood cells (RBCs), and Plasmodium falciparum-parasitized RBCs are presented.</P>
