      • An Image Spatial Domain Steganography Algorithm with High Payload, Commendable Perceptual Quality and High Statistical Un-detectability

        The Octonary PVD algorithm is the method that simultaneously achieves three contradicting objectives, high payload, commendable perceptual quality and high statistical un-detectability. However, the Octonary PVD algorithm has a major defect that it does not embed the secret data in the optimum locations because it does not consider the use of different pixel groups will have different effects on the statistical undetectability and payload of the stego image in the process of embedding. In view of the above problem, an improved steganography is proposed. An improved objective function which is used by the PSO module is defined at first in this proposed method. Then, an improved data hiding scheme is proposed. The proposed algorithm is an improved method based on the Octonary PVD algorithm, and the improved objective function which be used by the PSO module is set in such a way that both perceptual quality and statistical un-detectability are considered. This proposed algorithm has high statistical un-detectability and high payload with commendable visual quality. An extensive experimental evaluation has demonstrated the excellent performance of the proposed algorithm compared with other existing image spatial domain steganography algorithms.

        Dermatological Manifestations of Postural Tachycardia Syndrome Are Common and Diverse

        Background and Purpose Postural tachycardia syndrome (POTS) is a syndrome of orthostatic intolerance in the setting of excessive tachycardia with orthostatic challenge, and these symptoms are relieved when recumbent. Apart from symptoms of orthostatic intolerance, there are many other comorbid conditions such as chronic headache, fbromyalgia, gastrointestinal disorders, and sleep disturbances. Dermatological manifestations of POTS are also common and range widely from livedo reticularis to Raynaud’s phenomenon. Methods Questionnaires were distributed to 26 patients with POTS who presented to the neurology clinic. They were asked to report on various characteristics of dermatological symptoms, with their answers recorded on a Likert rating scale. Symptoms were considered positive if patients answered with “strongly agree” or “agree”, and negative if they answered with “neutral”, “strongly disagree”, or “disagree”. Results Te most commonly reported symptom was rash (77%). Raynaud’s phenomenon was reported by over half of the patients, and about a quarter of patients reported livedo reticularis. Te rash was most commonly found on the arms, legs, and trunk. Some patients reported that the rash could spread, and was likely to be pruritic or painful. Very few reported worsening of symptoms on standing. Conclusions Te results suggest that dermatological manifestations in POTS vary but are highly prevalent, and are therefore of important diagnostic and therapeutic signifcance for physicians and patients alike to gain a better understanding thereof. Further research exploring the underlying pathophysiology, incidence, and treatment strategies is necessary.

        Catalytic upgrading of chitin: Advances, mechanistic insights, and prospect

        The most plentiful renewable nitrogenous material on earth is chitin, which may be obtained from theshell waste of crustaceans. This waste is not fully utilized, resulting in resource waste and disposal problems. Due to the enormous potential of chitin pricing, a novel idea for shell biorefining has recently beenput forth. Several valuable chemicals have been produced from chitin biomass, including small-moleculecompounds, prodrugs, and monomers of polymers. This paper reviews the recent progress in the catalyticconversion of chitin, chitosan, and their derivatives to various chemicals and biomaterials. The selectionand properties of catalysts and catalytic systems were introduced. The mechanism of transformation ormodification is emphasized. The challenges and prospects of chitin transformation and modification arepresented.

      • Low-crosstalk high-density polymeric integrated optics incorporating self-assembled scattering monolayer.

        <P>Highly integrated optical components are strongly demanded because they enable wavelength-division multiplexing optical communication systems to achieve smaller footprints, lower power consumption, and enhanced reliability. Variable optical attenuator (VOA) arrays are often used with optical switches in cascaded form for reconfigurable optical add-drop multiplexer systems. Although VOAs and optical switches based on polymer waveguide technology are commercially available, it is still not viable to integrate these two array devices on a single chip because of significant interchannel crosstalk. In this work, we resolved the issue of crosstalk and integrated the arrays of optical switch and VOA on a single chip by incorporating a self-assembled scattering monolayer (SASM). The SASM was effective for scattering the planar guided mode; consequently, the crosstalk into an adjacent channel was significantly reduced, to less than -35 dB.</P>

      • An Image Steganography Algorithm based on the Quantitative Features of Higher Order Local Model

        HUGO is the content-based adaptive steganography method for spatial images which can approximately preserve the joint statistic of differences between up to four neighboring pixels in four different directions. But the steganalysis method based on the higher order local model can fail HUGO. In view of the above problem, an improved steganography is proposed. Firstly, by analyzing the higher order local model, the distortion function is defined based on the quantitative MINMAX features. Then, combined with the theoretical framework of the Gibbs construction in steganography, the improved image steganography algorithm is proposed. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm can not only resist the detection of the steganalysis method based on the quantitative MINMAX features , but also resist the detection of the steganalysis method based on the hybrid quantitative MINMAX features.

        The Robotic Arm Velocity Planning Based on Reinforcement Learning

        In order to improve the performance of the robotic arm effectively, this study established a robotic arm velocity planning model developed by artificial intelligence in the simulation system. The model not only considered the dynamic factors of the robotic arm but was also able to set different customized conditions such as machining accuracy and rotation angle. The study could be divided into three parts. First, the simulation environment was constructed with the ABB IRB140 six axes multipurpose industrial robot. To be consistent with real-world situations, a Vortex physics engine was applied to the simulation supplying varying locomotion parameters. In this research, friction, kinematics, and inertia were considered. Second, artificial intelligence was imported into the robotic arm through the establishment of connecting V-rep and Python. The proposed model was developed in the Python environment by deep deterministic policy gradients. Eventually, a design of the appropriate reward function governing the ultimate results was presented. Compared with traditional velocity planning, the proposed method can decline moving error by 0.05 degrees under the considerations involving dynamic factors in a robotic arm. Besides, the proposed velocity planning strategy could be obtained after taking the training time of one hour which can meet the demand for the time cost of the industry.

      • A Rusty but Provocative Knife? The Rationale behind China's Sanction Usage

        China has initiated a series of "economic sanctions" against South Korea, affecting Korean pop stars visiting China and Korean investments in China. Sanctions were imposed on South Korea in response to the decision of South Korea to deploy Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) in 2016. Furthermore, the Global Daily assembled local population to boycott Korean products and investments in China. However, the Chinese Foreign Ministry has never positively confirmed these activities as economic sanctions to South Korea related to the THAAD installation. In other words, the Chinese government singled a relatively weak message via these sanctions to South Korea. As a result, the THADD implementation continued in South Korea. In the paper, I interpret China's rationale to impost puzzling economic sanctions, which have a weak resolution, to South Korea and Taiwan. As signaling theory argues, economic sanctions with insufficient resolution, which are more likely to fail, is a more provocative foreign policy. By reviewing China's sanctions usage to South Korea and Taiwan, I propose arguments of bureaucratic competition to answer why China launched such sanctions to other countries: those are caused by domestic institutions who are seeking reward from the Communist Party of China. By comparing shifts of leadership between domestic agencies, the paper provides evidence to support the proposed argument. I also include two alternative explanations to strengthen the proposed argument, albeit connecting the paper with other two larger streams of research, which address analyses of China's aggressive foreign policies as well as the domestic politics of economic sanctions.

        Synthesis of LaMnO3–Diamond Composites and Their Photocatalytic Activity in the Degradation of Weak Acid Red C-3GN

        In this study, a series of LaMnO3–diamond composites with varied LaMnO3 mass contents supported on micro-diamond have been synthesized using a sol–gel method. The as-prepared composites were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Raman spectroscopy and the Fourier transform infrared spectra (FTIR). Meanwhile, the photocatalytic performances were also tested by photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy, ultraviolet–visible diffuse reflection spectra (UV-Vis DRS) and the degradation of weak acid red C-3GN (RC-3GN). Results show that the peak position of LaMnO3 is shifted to low angle after the introduction of diamond, and perovskite particles uniformly distributed on the surface of diamond, forming a network structure, which can increase the active sites and the absorption of dye molecules. When the mass ratio of LaMnO3 and diamond is 1:2 (LMO–Dia-2), the composite shows the most excellent photocatalytic activity. This result offers a sample route to enlarge the range of the application of micro-diamond and provide a new carrier for perovskite photocatalysts.

      • A Parallel Personalized Recommendation Algorithm using Bipartite Graphs

        BDM-NBI algorithm is proposed in this paper. It focuses on the analysis of a personalized recommendation algorithm that utilizes a weighted bipartite graph suitable for processing big data. To improve the performance of this recommendation algorithm through parallel processing techniques, a sparse matrix partitioning algorithm is then developed that uses the bipartite graph as input. Our algorithm adopts bipartite graph partitioning using a vertex separator method that partitions a high-dimensional sparse matrix into a pseudo-block based diagonal matrix. Then, the recommendation algorithm analyzes all weighted sub-matrices in parallel. We produce the global recommendation weighted matrix by merging all of the sub-matrices in parallel. Experiments with Hadoop show that our algorithm has good approximation for small matrices and excellent scalability.

        Expression Profiling of Lipopolysaccharide Target Genes in RAW264.7 Cells by Oligonucleotide Microarray Analyses

        In inflammatory responses, induction of cytokines and other immune regulator genes in macrophages by pathogen-associated signal such as lipopolysaccharide (LPS) plays a crucial role. In this study, the gene expression profile changes by LPS treatment in the macrophage/monocyte lineage cell line RAW264.7 was investigated. A 60-mer oligonucleotide microarray of which probes target 32381 mouse genes was used. A reverse transcription-in vitro translation labeling protocol and a chemileuminescence detection system were employed. The mRNA expression levels in RAW264.7 cells treated for 6 h with LPS and the control vehicle were compared. 747 genes were up-regulated and 523 genes were down-regulated by more than 2 folds. 320 genes showing more than 4-fold change by LPS treatment were further classified for the biological process, molecular function, and signaling pathway. The biological process categories that showed high number of increased genes include the immunity and defense, the nucleic acid metabolism, the protein metabolism and modification, and the signal transduction process. The chemokine-cytokine signaling, interleukin signaling, Toll receptor signaling, and apoptosis signaling pathways involved high number of genes differentially expressed in response to LPS. These expression profile data provide more comprehensive information on LPS-target genes in RAW264.7 cells, which will be useful in comparing gene expression changes induced by extracts and compounds from anti-inflammatory medicinal herbs.
