Three New and Four Unrecorded Species of Chironomidae (Insecta: Diptera) in Korea
Ree, Han-Il The Korean Society of Systematic Zoology 2009 Korean Journal of Systematic Zoology Special Issue Vol. No.
Three new and four unrecorded species of Chironomidae (Insecta: Diptera) from Korea are described with illustrations. The genus Paracladopelma is reported for the first time in Korea.
Four New Species of Parorthocladius (Diptera: Chironomidae: Orthocladiinae) Found in Korea
Han-il Ree,Hyo Jeong Kang 한국동물분류학회 2021 Animal Systematics, Evolution and Diversity Vol.37 No.1
The genus Parorthocladius is a small group among the subfamily Orthocladiinae (Diptera: Chironomidae). A total of ten species of Parorthocladius have been recorded in the world, of which two species were found from Japan, three species from China, and three species from the Russian Far East. Only one species, P. nudipennis is widely distributed in Europe and the Russian Far East. This genus can be distinguished from other genera by the absence of acrostichals on the thorax, wing vein R4+5 ending proximal to the tip of vein M3+4, anal point parallel side, rounded apically. We report four new species of Parorthocladius collected in Korea and described them with illustrations. As a result, fourteen species of Parorthocladius have been recorded in the world.
Three New Species of Krenosmittia (Diptera: Chironomidae: Orthocladiinae) Found in Korea
Han-il Ree,Hyo Jeong Kang 한국동물분류학회 2021 Animal Systematics, Evolution and Diversity Vol.37 No.1
The genus Krenosmittia is a small group of Orthocladiinae, containing a total of twenty species in the world. Among them, six species were found in Japan, four species in China, and five species from the Russian Far East. This genus can be distinguished from other Orthocladiinae genera by the eyes bare, absence of acrostichals on thorax, costa strongly extended, anal vein ending proximal to FCu, squama bare, and having a strongly developed virga. We report three new species: K. danyangensis n. sp., K. triangulia n. sp., and K. pseudoannulata. The genus Krenosmittia is the first record in Korea. Line drawings of the diagnostic characters are provided for all the species recognized in this study.
One New and Six Unrecorded Species of Chironomidae (Insecta: Diptera) in Korea
Ree, Han-Il The Korean Society of Systematic Zoology 2009 Korean Journal of Systematic Zoology Special Issue Vol. No.
One new species and six unrecorded are described with illustrations based on the specimens collected in 1970s-1990s in Korea. The genera Phaenopsectra, Xenochironomus, and Smittsia are reported for the first time in Korea.
Two New and Three Newly Recorded Species of Chironomidae (Diptera) from Korea
Han-Il Ree 한국동물분류학회 2013 Animal Systematics, Evolution and Diversity Vol.29 No.3
Chironomid adults were collected by light traps at night, sweeping on grasses, during daytime hours, sweeping of swarming males with an insect net, and aspiration of light-attracted adults using a sucking tube. The collected specimens were slide-mounted and examined. I identified two species new to science, namely Orthocladius manhaei n. sp. and Ablabesmyia jeongi n. sp., and three species for the first time in Korea: Paratrichocladius tamaator Sasa, 1981, Rheocricotopus chalybeatus (Edwards, 1929) and Hayesomyia tripunctata (Goetghebuer, 1922). This is the first report of the genera Rheocricotopus and Hayesomyia in Korea. The genus Hayesomyia in the tribe Pentaneurini of Tanypodinae has a Holarctic distribution with only one species recorded from each of the Palaearctic and Nearctic regions.
Two New and Four Unrecorded Species of Chironomidae (Diptera) in Korea
Han-Il Ree,Sung Hyun Nam,Kyoung Yong Jeong 한국동물분류학회 2012 Animal Systematics, Evolution and Diversity Vol.28 No.1
Chironomid adults attracted to the light were collected at Dangsan-ri, Muju-eup, Muju-gun, Jeollabuk-do in 2008-2009. Two new species, Lymnophyes parakitanaides sp. nov. and Parakiefferiella mujuensis sp. nov., and four unrecorded species, Cardiolcladius capusinus, Thienemanniella vittata, Conchapelopia pallidula, and Nilotanypus dubius were found and are described with illustrations. The genera Thienemanniella and Nilotanypus have not been previously reported in Korea. The genus Thienemanniella which belongs to Orthocladiinae is characterized by the radial sector retracted and apically fused with the costa, and the genus Nilotanypus which belongs to Tanypodinae is characterized by the absence of R2+3, pubescent eyes and lack of the gonocoxal lobes.
