      • Estimation of air pollution from container transportation of Daesan Port in Korea

        To reduce the air pollution from maritime activities, which is proven to have severe impacts on the worldwide environment and human health, many international regulations have been established. Therefore, an effective political strategy and a complete inventory of emissions are needed to control atmospheric ship pollution and comply with these international standards. The purpose of this study is to calculate the amount of emission in three operating modes (cruising, maneuvering, and hoteling) for some main pollutants emitted from container ships and trucks operating in Daesan port in Korea based on bottom-up methodology. The results showed that the volume of air pollution of about 6,500 tons from container ships and 1,455 tons from container trucks were emitted in Daesan port area. Also, a total of 4 billion won (about 3.6 billion won from container ships, and about 400 million won from container trucks) was estimated.

        Effect of the Cultivation Technology on the Yield of Paddy Straw Mushroom (Volvariella volvacea)

        The edible paddy straw mushroom Volvariella volvacea (Bull. ex F.) Singer has high nutritional and medicinal values. They are grown on a wide variety of agricultural byproducts using different several methods. The result of this present study showed that type of bed and cultivation condition (outdoor/indoor) had effects on the yield of paddy straw mushrooms grown on the spent oyster mushroom sawdust. The treatment of circular compact bed under indoor cultivation condition (CYIC) had the best yield and biological efficiency (B.E.) with 2,119.2 g/bed and 14.5%, respectively, followed by the treatment of conventional bed under outdoor cultivation condition (COOC) with the yield and B.E. of 1,935.5 g/bed and 13.2%, respectively, but the lowest yield and B.E. were observed in the treatment of conventional bed under indoor cultivation condition (COIC) with 1,226.1 g/bed and 8.4%, respectively. Paddy straw mushrooms cultivated on spent oyster mushroom sawdust should be proper in both outdoor and indoor conditions by conventional and circular compact methods as well. However, in indoor conditions, paddy straw mushrooms should be grown in a circular compact bed to ensure the temperature of the bed is suitable for the mushroom growth.

        Assessment of Visitors’ Satisfaction and Intention to Revisit of Bukcheon Iceland Poppy Festival in Hadong County, South Korea

        This study was conducted to analyze the characteristics of visitors to Hadong Bukcheon Iceland Poppy (BIP) Festival in order to sustain and enhance local flower festivals as a garden tourism. A questionnaire was distributed to BIP Festival visitors from May 18 to 27, 2018. A total of 167 responses were subject to be analyzed. Descriptive statistics analysis was mainly used and focused on describing the results in direct to explain the BIP Festival as a garden tourism. The number of female visitors and those in their 40s and 50s was high. Most of the visitors were found to live in other cities or counties near the area where BIP Festival was held and to prefer festivals held on the theme of nature and local features. The revisit rate and awareness of BIP Festival were 52.1% and 72.5% respectively. They mainly obtained the information on BIP Festival from people around them including family members, friends and colleagues, or from the Internet. Most answered that BIP festival was the most important destination on their trip. The major motives of BIP Festival visit included “spending quality time with family or friends (34.1%)”, “appreciating Iceland poppy and gardens (25.6%)”, and “enjoying oneself (tranquility, mental rest, etc.; 21.3%). As a companion, family and friends/colleagues accounted for 62.3% and 26.3% respectively. Most were found to spend 1-2 hours on visiting BIP festival and stay in Hadong county for a quarter of a day. In satisfaction of BIP Festival itself, “display and maintenance of Iceland poppy (3.76)” and “easiness of viewing (places arrangement, path, etc.) (3.57)” were high. In satisfaction of public relation and information, “service and hospitality of guides and desk clerks (3.66)” was high. The intention to revisit BIP Festival was nearly affirmative (3.73-3.80).

        선박 입출항 데이터 기반 항계 내 선박 배기가스 배출량 산정

        해상운송 중 선박에서 나오는 미세먼지 배출 규제가 지속적으로 강화되고 있다. 국제해사기구(IMO)에서는 2020년 1월부터 국제항해에 종사하는 일정 선박에 대하여 황함유량 0.5% m/m이하의 선박연료유 사용을 의무화 하였다. 그리고 이미 2019년 1월부터 선박의 온실가스 배출량 모니터링을 위해 총톤수 5천톤 이상 선박은 연료유 사용량을 의무적으로 보고하도록 하고 있다. 이와 함께 유럽, 북미, 아시아 지역을 중심으로 선박이 빈번히 입출항하는 항만구역을 포함한 배출통제해역(ECA, Emission Control Area)이 확대되고 있다. 화물 하역을 위해 항만에 입출항하는 선박은 다양한 데이터를 생성한다. 본 논문에서는 선박 입출항 정보를 분석하여 항계 내에서 선박으로부터 배출되는 배기가스 배출량을 산정하는 것이 연구의 목적이다. 선박 배기가스 산출 대상 항만은 광양항으로 하였고, 대상선박은 컨테이너선으로 하여 질소산화물(NOx), 황산화물(SOx), 탄화수소(HC), 미세먼지(PM10)를 산정하였다. Regulations on the emission of fine dust from ships are constantly being strengthened. From January 2020, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) mandated the use of fuel oil with a sulfur content of 0.5% m/m or less for certain ships engaged in international voyage. Also, since January 2019, it is mandatory for ships with a gross tonnage of 5,000 tons or more to report fuel oil consumption to monitor ships’ greenhouse gas emissions. Along with this, the Emission Control Area (ECA) is expanding, including port areas where ships frequently enter and depart, mainly in Europe, North America, and Asia. Ships entering and departing ports for cargo handling generate various data. In this paper, the purpose of the study is to analyze the ship entry and departure information and calculate the exhaust emission from the ship in the port area. The target port for the calculation of ships’ emission is Gwangyang port, and the target ship is limited to container ships. The emissions of nitrogen oxides (NOx), sulfur oxides (SOx), hydrocarbons (HC), and particulate matter of 10 microns in diameter (PM10) among pollutants discharged from ships were calculated.

        Dual-band isotropic metamaterial absorber based on near-field interaction in the Ku band

        We numerically and experimentally investigate single-band and dual-band isotropic metamaterial absorbers (IMAs) based on metallic disks. By optimizing the diameter of the metallic disks and the thickness of the dielectric substrate, the single-band IMA is observed at 16.2 GHz with absorptivity of 97%. When adding one diskpair to the structure, the dual-band IMA is obtained at 12.8 and 15.5 GHz due to the symmetry breaking. The physical mechanics is explained by near-field coupling effect and equivalent LC circuit model. The measurement results performed in the range 12–18 GHz show a good agreement with simulation and theoretical analysis. Our findings demonstrate a new approach to achieve dual-band and multi-band IMAs.

        Recognition and Intent-to-Participate of Rural Migrants on Urban and Rural Exchange Business in Namhae County, South Korea

        Background and objective: Rural migrants are an important human resource in urban and rural exchange (URE) business, therefore it is necessary to enhance their awareness and intent-to-participate. This study was to analyze the rural migrants’ recognition and intent-to-participate of URE business and to propose the enhancement of them both. Methods: The questionnaire was designed to analyze the socio-demographic background, motivations, satisfaction with settlement, intent-to-persist, and intent-to-participate of URE business including tourism. The data of 144 respondents was subject to the statistical analysis. Results: The motives of migration were to enjoy leisure life after retirement, increased tiredness of city life, health problems, etc. The satisfaction with settlement was 3.67 at 5-point Likert scale. The intent-to-recommend and intent-to-publicize were 3.40 and 3.46, respectively. The intent-to-participate was 3.45, which was affected by the necessity of URE business and the support of central/local governments, and also showed a significant correlation with the satisfaction with settlement, intent-to-recommend, intent-to-publicize, tourism resources for green tourism or rural tourism, driving a car in Namhae county, and the service and price of meals. They thought the missions that the Namhae county office must focus on were to establish an internal/external public relations systems, establish a support system of central/local governments, and foster/support local leaders. Conclusion: It is necessary to improve the satisfaction with settlement and intent-to-persist, expand exchanges with local people, improve internal/external public relations systems, foster/support leaders, improve transportation in the county, enhance the service and price of meals, and develop/operate URE programs including tourism.
