Quantifying turbulence velocity fluctuation is important because it indicates the fluid energy dissipation of the blood flow, which is closely related to the pressure drop along the blood vessel. This study aims to evaluate the effects of scan parameters and the target vessel size of 4D phase-contrast (PC)-MRI on quantification of turbulent kinetic energy (TKE). Comprehensive 4D PC-MRI measurements with various velocity-encoding (VENC), echo time (TE), and voxel size values were carried out to estimate TKE distribution in stenotic flow. The total TKE (TKE<SUB>sum</SUB>), maximum TKE (TKE<SUB>max</SUB>), and background noise level (TKE<SUB>noise</SUB>) were compared for each scan parameter. The feasibility of TKE estimation in small vessels was also investigated. Results show that the optimum VENC for stenotic flow with a peak velocity of 125cm/s was 70cm/s. Higher VENC values overestimated the TKE<SUB>sum</SUB> by up to six-fold due to increased TKE<SUB>noise</SUB>, whereas lower VENC values (30cm/s) underestimated it by 57.1%. TE and voxel size did not significantly influence the TKE<SUB>sum</SUB> and TKE<SUB>noise</SUB>, although the TKE<SUB>max</SUB> significantly increased as the voxel size increased. TKE quantification in small-sized vessels (3-5-mm diameter) was feasible unless high-velocity turbulence caused severe phase dispersion in the reference image.
Unequal Luby Transform Based on Block Weight Shift (ULT-BWS) for Error Resilient Video Transmission

<P>In this paper, we propose an unequal Luby transform (LT) based on block weight shift (ULT-BWS) method as an unequal forward error correction method to minimize video distortion over packet-lossy networks. First, we consider unequal amount of error propagation effects from packet loss in hierarchical prediction structure to give unequal property in an LT codes. For robust video transmission over various channel status, the ULT-BWS method assigns an efficient amount of protection for frame blocks with different error propagation weights by controlling the range of more important blocks in a group of pictures. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed ULT-BWS method gives robust performance and significantly improved video quality, compared with the conventional ULT schemes.</P>

A number of linguists have shown their interest in English adjectival sequence, but most of them (for example, Hetzron (1978), Quirk et al. (1985), Kingsbury and Wellman (1986), and Scott (2002)) were concerned with those which take place in prenominal positions. Unlike these previous studies, Hah (2004) makes an attempt to expand the horizon to the adjectival sequence in postverbal positions, by suggesting so-called semantic closeness condition as a tool for a unified account of adjectival sequence in both prenominal and postverbal positions. Seeing that the approach faces a systematic problem, however, the present paper claims that the semantic closeness condition applies locally to prenominal adjectives. Given the claim, it is understandable why adjectives invariably assume a conjoined relationship or its equivalent when they appear predicatively as subject complement. Furthermore, a new insight is gained into what determines the sequence of postverbal adjectives. Based on corpus analysis, I demonstrate that when it comes to the ordering between adjectives in postverbal positions, conventions prevail unless a certain factor like a cause-and-effect relation enforces another order.
