The shot peening process is most often used to improve fatigue properties of metal parts. In order to achieve optimum, repeatable and reliable fatigue enhancement from the shot peening process, the important shot peening parameters must be controlled. In this paper, the optimum shot peening condition is investigated. Rotary bending fatigue test was accomplished to investigate the effects of shot peening on the fatigue strength. Experimental results show that the fatigue strength was tremendously increased by optimum peening.

The purpose of this study is to investigate emission characteristics of pollutant sources and to improve the Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) in apartment houses. The field measurement was conducted in four different apartment house complexes located in Seoul. The result of the measurement shows that indoor concentrations of HCHO and VOC's are much higher than the foreign standards. The result of the study indicates that the basic thermal environment elements such as temperture, measurement position, lapse have a valid effect on the concentration of pollutant sources.

Kahweol, a coffee-specific diterpene, is reported to have anti-cancer properties. although its precise che mopreventive mechanism remains unclear. The aim of our study was to determine the effect of kahweol on anti-metastatic activities and the possible mechanisms. Kahweol inhibited the migration and invasion ability of various cancer cells in vitro and decreased the secretion of metalloproteinase (MMP)-2. MMP-9 and VEGF in cancer cells via suppression of STAT3 activation. Kahweol also exhibited an inhibitory effect on lung metastasis in the experimental B 16-F10 melanoma metastasis model. Moreover. kahweol inhibited migration and tube formation of endothelial cells in vitro. decreased the secretion of VEGD. and suppressed neovascularisation in Matrigel plugs in mice. Material degradation is a multibillion-dollar problem which affects all the industries amongst others. The last decades have seen the development of newer and more effective techniques such as Focused-ion beam(FIB), Transmission electron microscopy(TEM), Secondary-ion mass spectroscopy(SIMS), auger electron spectroscopy(AES), X-ray Photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS), Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy(EIS), Photo-stimulated luminescence spectroscopy(PSLS), etc. to study various forms of material degradation. These techniques are now used routinely to obtain information on the chemical state, depth profiling, composition, stress state, etc. to understand the degradation behavior. This paper describes the use of these techniques specifically applied to materials degradation and failure analysis.
