Regionalism in Europe and the ASIA-PACIFIC
Giuseppe Schiavone 한국유럽학회 2000 유럽연구 Vol.12 No.1
"The paper deals, first of all, with the issues concerning the shifting boundaries of the two regions under discussion, that is Europe and the Asia-Pacific, with special regard to developments in the post-cold war era. The most important intergovernmental bodies promoting cooperation in the economic and security fields established in the two regions are then described and their peculiarities emphasized. With a view to identifying points of convergence and divergence between the two regions, a number of features are discussed taking into consideration the basic principles and objectives, the different institutional mechanisms, the degree of political and economic homogeneity of the countries involved, the relevance of cultural factors and the role of the private sector. In the final remarks, the conclusion is put forward of a gradual narrowing of the institutional gap existing between the models of the two regions."
