To investigate transcriptional regulation of iNOS gene by LPS and cytokines, the production of NO, expression of iNOS mRNA and protein, binding activity of nuclear factor-kappa B(NF-kB), and promoter activity of iNOS gene were examined in rat C6 glial cells. LPS, interferon-gamma(IFN-γ), and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) stimulated the production of NO, which was increased synergistically by co-treatment. By the treatment of LPS, iNOS mRNA expression was initiated at 1 h, markedly increased by 3 h, and decreased gradually afterward. iNOS mRNA expression was markedly enhanced by mixture of LPS, IFN-γ and TNF-α. iNOS protein synthesis was increased by the treatment of mixture LPS and cytokine mixture. Treatment of LPS stimulated NF-kB activation, and the activation reached to the maximum level at 30 min, and the treatment of mixture of LPS and cytokines increased the activation. To determine the effect of NF-kB binding activity on iNOS promoter activation, CAT assay was performed. iNOS promoter activity was increased by the treatment with LPS for 5.5 h, and further increased by the combined treatment with LPS and cytokines. These results suggest that NF-kB activation by LPS and cytokines may play a significant role in the induction of the iNOS gene.
Metal–Insulator–Semiconductor Diode Consisting of Two-Dimensional Nanomaterials

<P>We present a novel metal-insulator-semiconductor (MIS) diode consisting of graphene, hexagonal BN, and monolayer MoS2 for application in ultrathin nano electronics. The MIS heterojunction structure was fabricated by vertically stacking layered materials using a simple wet chemical transfer method. The stacking of each layer was confirmed by confocal scanning Raman spectroscopy and device performance was evaluated using current versus voltage (I-V) and photocurrent measurements. We clearly observed better current rectification and much higher current flow in the MIS diode than in the p-n junction and the metal-semiconductor diodes made of layered materials. The I-V characteristic curve of the MIS diode indicates that current flows mainly across interfaces as a result of carrier tunneling. Moreover, we observed considerably high photocurrent from the MIS diode under visible light illumination.</P>

<P>Despite the direct band gap of monolayer transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs), their optical gain remains limited because of the poor light absorption in atomically thin, layered materials. Most approaches to improve the optical gain of TMDs mainly involve modulation of the active materials or multilayer stacking. Here, we report a method to enhance the optical absorption and emission in MoS2 simply through the design of a nanostructured substrate. The substrate consisted of a dielectric nanofilm spacer (TiO2) and metal film. The overall photoluminescence intensity from monolayer MoS2 on the nanostructured substrate was engineered based on the TiO2 thickness and amplified by Fabry-Perot interference. In addition, the neutral exciton emission was selectively amplified by plasmonic excitations from the local field originating from the surface roughness of the metal film with spacer thicknesses of less than 10 nm. We further demonstrate that the quality factor of the device can also be engineered by selecting a spacer material with a different refractive index.</P>
Visualizing Point Defects in Transition-Metal Dichalcogenides Using Optical Microscopy

<P>While transmission electron microscopy and scanning tunneling microscopy reveal atomic structures of point defect and grain boundary in monolayer transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs), information on point defect distribution in macroscale is still not available. Herein, we visualize the point defect distribution of monolayer TMDs using dark-field optical microscopy. This was realized by anchoring silver nanoparticles on defect sites of MoS2 under light illumination. The optical images clearly revealed that the point defect distribution varies with light power and exposure time. The number of silver nanoparticles increased initially and reached a plateau in response to light power or exposure time. The size of silver nanoparticles was a few hundred nanometers in the plateau region as observed using optical microscopy. The measured defect density in macroscale was similar to 2 x 10(10) cm(-2), slightly lower than the observed value (4 x 10(11) cm(-2)) from scanning tunneling microscopy.</P>

이 자료는 박동진의 <충무공 이순신>이다. 박동진은 <충무공 이순신>을 1973년 9시간40분에 걸쳐 완창하였다. 박동진은 <이충무공 이순신>이 자신이 만든 창작 판소리 중에 가장 기억에 남는 작품이라고 했으며, 이 작품은 워낙 대작이어서 공연할 때 5명의 고수가 2시간씩 돌아가며 북을 쳤다고 한다. <충무공 이순신>은 1973년 지구레코드공사에서 녹음 제작하였고, 장시간 음반을 2006년 3장의 CD로 재발매하였다. 이 자료는 2006년 3장의 CD로 재발매된 <충무공 이순신> 사설을 채록한 것이다. 2006년 재발매된 이 CD집에는 사설이 채록 되어 있지 않아, 필자의 CD 자료 사설 채록 작업은 박동진 <충무공 이순신> 창작 판소리 사설을 소개하고, 앞으로 박동진 창작 판소리를 이해하고 연구하는 데에도 많은 기여를 할 수 있는 작업이 될 것이라 생각한다. This material is<Chungmugong Lee sunshin>sung by Park-dongjin, Park-do ngjin sang <Chungmugong Lee sunshin> for 9 hours and 40 minutes in 1973. He mentioned that <Chungmugong Lee sunshin> was the most memorized work of his creative pansory, which 5 drummers performed every 2 hours by turns because it was a work of large size. <Chungmugong Lee sunshin> was produced by Jigu-record company in 1973, and it was put on sale again with 3 sheets of long time CD in 2006, These poetic dictions that originated from the 3 sheets of CD in 2006. Because the poetic dictions are not transcribed on the CD sheets in 2006m My transcription of these CD poetic dictions introduce Park-dongjin`s creative pansory <Chungmugong Lee sunshin>, and can contribute the study of his creative pansory in the future.

Background/Aims: Percutaneous ethanol injection therapy (PEIT) is widely used for the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). However, its long-term therapeutic efficacy is not verified in Korea, one of hepatitis B virus (HBV) endemic areas. Thus, this study was to assess its efficacy and prognostic factors affecting tumor-free survival following PEIT in Korean HCC patients. Methods: From 1997 to 1999, 100 consecutive patients who had 1 to 3 HCC nodules of maximum diameter less than 3 cm and underwent PEIT were enrolled. Therapeutic efficacy, overall and tumor-free survival rates were assessed during follow-up periods. Results: In 83 patients, HCC nodules were completely ablated by PEIT. The cumulative 1, 2, and 3 year overall survival rates were 98%, 96%, and 88%, respectively. The cumulative 1, 2, and 3 year tumor-free survival rates were 73%, 50%, and 37%, respectively. Larger tumors (=2 cm) were associated with a higher local recurrence rate. Conclusions: These results demonstrate that PEIT is therapeutically useful in patients with HCC less than 4 in number and less than 3 cm in diameter. However, since multiple or large tumors are associated with low tumor-free survival or high local recurrence rates, PEIT for these tumors and the subsequent post-treatment follow-up should be performed carefully. In legumes, soyasaponins, one of triterpenoid saponins, are major components of secondary metabolites with a more diverse array of bioactive chemicals. Although the biosynthetic pathway of soyasaponins has been largely studied in soybean, the study on the soyasaponin contents and biosynthesis-related gene expression in pea (Pisum sativum L.) is poorly understood. Here, we found the accumulation of only soyasaponin Bb component in the sprouts of two Korean domestic pea cultivars (Dachung and Sachul). This pattern was consistent with our observation that increased expression of PsUGT73P2 and PsUGT91H4 genes, but not PsCYP72A69, could be responsible for biosynthesis of only soyasaponin Bb in pea by examining their gene expression. However, gradual accumulation of soyasaponin Bb at developmental stages was not consistent with the expression of PsUGT73P2 and PsUGT91H4, suggesting that the changes of their protein activities may affect the accumulation patterns of soyasaponin Bb. We also revealed that the increased expression levels of PsUGT73P2 and PsUGT91H4 during light to dark transition led to increase of soyasaponin Bb contents. Collectively, our results provided a molecular basis of metabolic engineering for enhancing useful soyasaponin Bb metabolites in Korean domestic pea cultivars.
Synthesis of Centimeter-Scale Monolayer Tungsten Disulfide Film on Gold Foils

<P>We report the synthesis of centimeter-scale monolayer WS<SUB>2</SUB> on gold foil by chemical vapor deposition. The limited tungsten and sulfur solubility in gold foil allows monolayer WS<SUB>2</SUB> film growth on gold surface. To ensure the coverage uniformity of monolayer WS<SUB>2</SUB> film, the tungsten source-coated substrate was placed in parallel with Au foil under hydrogen sulfide atmosphere. The high growth temperature near 935 °C helps to increase a domain size up to 420 μm. Gold foil is reused for the repeatable growth after bubbling transfer. The WS<SUB>2</SUB>-based field effect transistor reveals an electron mobility of 20 cm<SUP>2</SUP> V<SUP>–1</SUP> s<SUP>–1</SUP> with high on–off ratio of ∼10<SUP>8</SUP> at room temperature, which is the highest reported value from previous reports of CVD-grown WS<SUB>2</SUB> samples. [${^3H}Ryanodine$ Binding Sites of SR Vesicles of the Chicken Pectoral Muscle

To investigate the properties of ryanodine binding sites of the bird skeletal SR vesicles, SDS PAGE, purification of RyR, and $[^3H]ryanodine$ binding study were carried out in the SR vesicles prepared from the chicken pectoral muscle. The chicken SR vesicles have two high molecular weight (HMW) protein bands as in eel SR vesicles on SDS PAGE. The HMW bands on SDS PAGE were found in the $[^3H]ryanodine$ peak fraction $(Fr_{3-5})$ obtained from the purification step of the ryanodine receptor protein. Bmax and KD of the chicken $[^3H]ryanodine$ binding sites were 12.52 pmol/mg protein and 14.53 nM, respectively. Specific $[^3H]ryanodine$ binding was almost maximal at $50{\sim}100$ ${\mu}M$ $Ca^{2+}$, but was not increased by 5 mM AMP and not inhibited by high $Ca^{2+}$. Binding was significantly inhibited by $20{\sim}100$ ${\mu}M$ ruthenium red and 1 mM tetracaine, but slightly inhibited by $Mg^{2+}$. From the above results, it is suggested that chicken SR vesicles have the ryanodine binding sites to which the binding of ryanodine is almost maximal at $50{\sim}10$ ${\mu}M$ $Ca^{2+}$, is significantly inhibited by ruthenium red and tetracaine, slightly inhibited by $Mg^{2+}$, but not affected by AMP and not inhibited by high $Ca^{2+}$.
