The effects of intra-duodenal infusion of methionine (Met), lysine (Lys) and leucine (Leu) on dry matter intake (DMI), the concentrations of insulin-like growth factor I (IGF-I), growth hormone (GH) and insulin in plasma, and liver IGF-I mRNA level were investigated in two experiments for Liuyang Black growing wether goats. In Experiment 1, three goats ($10.0{\pm}0.1$ kg) were fitted with ruminal, proximal duodenal and terminal ileal fistulaes to determine the infusion amounts of Met, Lys and Leu at the duodenum according to essential amino acid flows into the duodenum and their apparent digestibility. The infusion amounts were 0.77 g/d, 0.91 g/d and 0.58 g/d respectively. In Experiment 2, 4 groups of goats (($10.0{\pm}0.2$ kg) for each group, were cannulated at the duodenum, and were infused with a mixture of Met, Lys and Leu (Control), or mixtures with 21% Met, Lys or Leu replaced with glutamate respectively on a nitrogenous basis. The replacement of 21% Met, Lys or Leu with glutamate did not affect intakes of maize stover, concentrate or both (p>0.05) when compared with the control. The replacement of 21% Met or Lys significantly (p<0.05) reduced plasma GH, insulin and IGF-I concentrations and liver IGF-I mRNA level. The replacement of 21% Leu with glutamate reduced (p<0.05) plasma IGF-I concentration only, but not plasma insulin and GH, as well as liver IGF-I mRNA level (p>0.05). The close relationships between supplying Met and Lys in the lumen of the duodenum and plasma IGF-I, GH and insulin concentrations, as well as liver IGF-I mRNA level in this study indicate that the effects of the limiting amino acids on nutrition of animals are likely intermediated via their effects on these hormones, and these hormone profiles could be used as intermediate markers for the limiting order of amino acids.

We report the transformation of electronic structures of sp^2 graphene to sp^3 graphene by UV-light-assisted oxidation. Two distinctive oxidation mechanisms were observed during this metal–insulator transition: (i) At low-oxidation regime, p-doping behavior by oxygen species extracting electrons from graphene and (ii) at high-oxidation regime, n-doping behavior by electron-hopping via strongly localized oxide states. We also found that the dominant oxygen-related functional group by UV-light-assisted oxidation was an epoxide group rather than hydroxyl group, which differed from conventional graphite oxide.
Sintering behavior and microwave dielectric properties of (Mg0.95Zn0.05)2(Ti0.8Sn0.2)O4 cerami
G.G. Yao,P. Liu 한양대학교 세라믹연구소 2012 Journal of Ceramic Processing Research Vol.13 No.3
The sinterability and microwave dielectric properties of pure and LiF-added (Mg0.95Zn0.05)2(Ti0.8Sn0.2)O4 (MZTS) ceramics were investigated. X-ray diffraction analysis indicated that all specimens show a cubic spinel structure with lattice parameters (a = b = c = 8.48794 Å). In the case of the pure MZTS ceramic, the optimum calcination and sintering temperatures were 1150 oC for 3 h and 1325 oC for 5 h, respectively, for the best density and dielectric properties. The MZTS ceramic sintered at 1325 oC for 5 h had εr = 13.1, Q·f = 131 170 GHz (10 GHz), τf = −55.6 ppm/K. A small addition (3.0 wt%) of LiF into the MZTS ceramic allowed a noticeable reduction in its sintering temperature by 200 oC without a significant detrimental effect on the dielectric properties. The MZTS-3.0 wt% LiF ceramic sintered at 1150 oC for 5 h showed εr = 13.05, Q·f = 119 316 GHz (10.1 GHz), τf = −59.2 ppm/K.

Li2ZnTi3O8 ceramics were prepared by reaction-sintering process (calcination free). The crystal phase and microstructure were investigated using X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). A pure phase of Li2ZnTi3O8 ceramics sintered at 1075 o C-1150 o C with cubic spinel structure was confirmed by XRD. The microwave dielectric properties (εr, Qxf) of Li2ZnTi3O8 ceramics were strongly dependent on the densification and grain size. The τf of Li2ZnTi3O8 ceramics was almost independent with the sintering temperatures. In particular, Li2ZnTi3O8 ceramics by reaction-sintering method sintered at 1125 o C for 5 hrs exhibited good combination microwave dielectric properties of εr = 21.7, Q × f = 70 500 GHz (at 7.5 GHz) and τf=−13 ppm/o C.

The effect of Fe2O3-LiF co-doping on the sintering behavior, phase compositions and microwave dielectric properties of Mg4Nb2O9-CaTiO3 ceramics were investigated. The Fe2O3-LiF addition effectively lowered the sintering temperature of Mg4Nb2O9-CaTiO3 ceramics from 1275 oC to 1025 oC. XRD showed the presence of LiFe5O8 and Ca(FeTi)2O4 as second phases. With an increase in the sintering temperature, the dielectric constant (εr) and quality factor (Q·f) first increase and decrease thereafter, the temperature coefficient of resonant frequency (τf) changes slightly. A Mg4Nb2O9-CaTiO3 specimen with 0.75wt%Fe2O3-1.5 wt%LiF sintered at 1025 oC/5 h exhibited good microwave dielectric properties: εr = 13.6, Q·f = 64 430 GHz (9.5 GHz)and τf = −60.4 ppm/K. These properties were correlated with the formation of the second phases, LiFe5O8 and Ca(FeTi)2O4.

High Temperature Fatigue Behavior of Wrought Nickel - base Superalloy GH4049
Wang, Z . G .,Chen, L . J .,Tian, J . F .,Yao, G . 대한금속재료학회(대한금속학회) 1999 METALS AND MATERIALS International Vol.5 No.6
Push-pull total strain-controlled fatigue tests without and with a hold period were carried at elevated temperatures for wrought nickel base superalloy GH4049. The influence of the testing temperature and strain hold period on fatigue behavior was determined. The alloy would exhibit either cyclic strain hardening, softening or stability during cyclic straining. Fatigue life depends strongly on the testing temperature and the introduction of the strain hold period. Observations on fatigue specimens using transmission electron microscopy (TEM) showed that the dislocations were distributed mostly in the γ matrix. It was observed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) that cracks initiated always in a transgranular mode, but their propagation mode was closely related to the testing temperature. In addition, the fatigue life was predicted by linear damage summation (LDS), strain range partitioning (SRP) and the strain energy partitioning (SEP) method. The results of life prediction indicated that the SRP and SEP methods were in a good agreement as to the measured and predicted life at lower temperatures, while the LDS method showed better predictability at higher temperature as compared to the SRP and SEP methods.

<P>In spite of the technical importance of detecting environmental SO<I>x</I> and NO<I>x</I> gases, a selective detection has not been realized because of their similar chemical properties. In this report, adsorption and desorption of SO2 and NO2 gas on carbon nanotubes are investigated in terms of different humidity levels at room temperature. A random-network single walled carbon nanotube (SWCNT) resistor is constructed by a dip-pen method using a SWCNT/dichloroethane (DCE) solution. In the case of SO2 gas adsorption, the resistance increases at high humidity level (92%) and shows no obvious change at low humidity levels. On the other hand, in the case of NO2 gas adsorption, the resistance always decreases independent of moisture levels. Our density functional theory (DFT) calculations show that this selective behavior originates from cooperative charge compensation between the SO2–<I>n</I>H2O complex and the p-type CNT resistor. The change of response time and recovery time with different moisture levels is further investigated. This humidity-assisted gas reaction provides a simple route to detect these two gases selectively.</P> <P>Graphic Abstract</P><P>Selective detection of SO2 and NO2 gas has been successfully realized on carbon nanotubes by introducing humidity in this study. <IMG SRC='http://pubs.rsc.org/services/images/RSCpubs.ePlatform.Service.FreeContent.ImageService.svc/ImageService/image/GA?id=c0jm03227a'> </P>
Observations on the Influence of Hydrogen on the Sintering of an Al-2Mg Alloy
Schaffer G.B.,Yao J.Y. 한국분말야금학회 2006 한국분말야금학회 학술대회논문집 Vol.2006 No.1
Hydrogen, in even small quantities, is extremely deleterious to the sintering of aluminium. Understanding the cause of this effect is complicated by the multiple interactions that occur in multi-component systems. In this work, we examine the sintering rsponse of Al-2Mg (a simplified system) in pure nitrogen and nitrogen-hydrogen using dilatometry, differential scanning calorimetery, thermogravimetry and metallography.
