Anti-hepatotoxic activity of Fruit pulp of Momordica dioica Roxb. (Cucurbitaceae)

The Hexane Extract (HE) and Ethyl Acetate Soluble Fraction of the Methanolic Extract (EASFME) of the fruit pulp of Momordica dioica Roxb. (Cucurbitaceae) was evaluated for its anti-hepatotoxic activity in rats. Acute hepatotoxicity was induced by administering paracetamol (2 g/kg, p.o.) for 3 days. The extracts, at a dose of 400 mg/kg (p.o.) administered for 7 days exhibited a significant therapeutic effect by lowering Serum Glutamate Oxaloacetate Transaminase (SGOT), Serum Glutamate Pyruvate Transaminase (SGPT), Serum Alkaline Phosphatase (ALP) and Serum bilirubin and increasing the serum protein levels. These biochemical observations were supplemented by histopathological examination of the liver sections. The activity of extract was also comparable to the standard drug Silymarin, which is a well-known natural anti-hepatotoxic drug.
Direct Organogenesis in Geophila reniformis D. Don., an Important Medicinal Herb

Adventitious multiple shoots were developed from leaf, petiole and internode explants of Geophila reniformis D. Don. on MS medium supplemented with various concentrations of $N^6$-benzylaminopurine (BAP) or Kinetin (KIN) alone or in combination with indole-3-acetic acid (IAA). Leaf showed maximum organogenetic potential, followed by petiole and internode. Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium supplemented with 22.22 $\mu{M}$ BAP and 4.57 $\mu{M}$ IAA induced maximum shoot buds from leaf explants. Internodal segments showed low potential of direct organogenesis. The regenerated shoots rooted the best in presence of 10.75 - 13.44 $\mu{M}$ $\alpha$-naphthalene acetic acid (NAA) along with 2.22 $\mu{M}$ BAP, and were successfully established in the field with a survival rate of 89.11%.

This paper investigates numerically the combined effect of employing multiple Phase change materials (PCMs) and dispersion of high conductivity particles on the thermal performance of an energy storage unit. The key parameters that govern the performance have been identified following a simple reduction of variables. Among the different parameters, melting temperature of the PCMs, latent heat and melting temperature difference between two consecutive PCMs (DT m ) are found to have a significant influence on the performance. A case study considering a 3-PCM unit to study the effect of key parameters during melting has been presented. The results show that for the 3-PCM unit, the performance is better when the second and third PCMs placed have their latent heats larger than the first PCM. It has been recommended to have DT m1 > DT m2 for the 3-PCM unit in order achieve more melting.
