      • SAUDI ARABIAN UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS' PERCEPTIONS OF E-LEARNING QUALITY DURING COVID19 PANDEMIC

Alkinani, Edrees A. International Journal of Computer ScienceNetwork S 2021 International journal of computer science and netw Vol.21 No.2

The quality of the E-learning education in Saudi Arabia has been a major concern by many academicians, especially, and people in general as this platform has not been a priority for education. Not until recently, the world has been impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic, which makes every education institution shifted to the online platform to continue the education for the students. Thus, many studies on the perceptions on the online learning have been carried out, and though many are focusing on the perceptions by the education institutions' faculty and administration, there is a lack in the amount of study performed to analyse the students' perceptions of online learning during the pandemic time. The current study is conducted by utilising qualitative methods in order to collect information and investigate the students' perception regarding online learning during the pandemic Covid-19, based on their individual experiences. A number of fifteen (15) students were selected as respondents for the study, in which structured interviews were conducted by using a convenient sampling technique for data collection. Through the discussion, all of the positive and negative perceptions of online learning, as well as the factors contributing to those perceptions were identified. The results of the study found that the positive perceptions were contributed based on the flexibility, cost-effectiveness, availability of the electronic research databases, and well-designed online classroom interfaces. For the negative perceptions from using online learning platforms, the respondents informed that they were contributed by the lecturer's delayed feedback, lack of technical support by lecturers, low in self-esteem and self-motivation, feel isolated, one-way of educational methods, and poorly-designed class materials. Through the findings, the school's administration and lecturers would be able to know the struggles experienced by the students, and eventually come out with better solutions to improve their teaching methods.

      • Acceptance and Effectiveness of Distance Learning in Public Education in Saudi Arabia During Covid19 Pandemic: Perspectives from Students, Teachers and Parents

Alkinani, Edrees A. International Journal of Computer ScienceNetwork S 2021 International journal of computer science and netw Vol.21 No.2

The movement control order and shutting down educational institution in Saudi Arabia has jeopardized the teaching and learning process. Education was shifted to distance learning in order to avoid any academic loss. In the middle of the Covid-19 crisis, there is a need to assess the full image of e-learning in Saudi Arabia. To investigate student and teachers' perception and acceptance, parents' attitudes and believes about distance education are the main goals of the study. The mix-method research design was employed to collect data. Three surveys were distributed to 100 students and 50 teachers and 50 parents from different educational institutions in Saudi Arabia, while semi-structured interviews were conducted with 10 parents. Random stratified and convenient sampling methods were adopted. Both descriptive and content analysis was conducted using SPSS25.0 and NVIVO software for quantitative and qualitative data accordingly. The findings showed that students are comfortable with remote education and are receiving enough support from schools and instructors but they think online education can't replace conventional face-to-face learning. Moreover, the results showed that teachers are having challenges in preparing online classes because of the development of conducting online classes and the lack of training. However, parents showed negative attitudes regarding the benefits and values of remote education and preferred conventional learning styles in elementary schools. Parents tended to reject and resist distance learning for several reasons: professional knowledge and lack of time to support their young kids in online classes, the shortcomings of e-learning, young children's inadequate self-regulation. Saudi parents are neither trained nor ready to use e-learning. The study provided suggestion and implications for teacher education and policymakers.

      • Evaluating the Usability and Effectiveness of Madrasati Platforms as a Learning Management System in Saudi Arabia for Public Education

Alkinani, Edrees A.,Alzahrani, Abdullah I.A. International Journal of Computer ScienceNetwork S 2021 International journal of computer science and netw Vol.21 No.6

Ministries of Education are integrating different Learning Management Systems (LMS) to enhance teaching and learning during the lockdown to avoid academic loss. The key factor for delivering a high-quality education through LMS platforms is teachers' acceptance and adoption of the platform. Madrasati platform (which means My school) was introduced by Saudi Arabian Ministry of education as the formal teaching and learning for distance education for public education levels. This study aims to examine the effectiveness, usability and adoption of "Madrasati" platform from teachers' perspectives in Saudi Arabia. "SUS, CSUQ" tests were used to test the usability of the new platform. Using quantitative research design, data were collected using questionnaire. 200 teachers were selected randomly answered the survey. Data was analysed descriptively and inferentially using SPSS (25). The results obtained indicate that the teachers are highly satisfied using Madrasati platform and technically it is well designed. Also, Madrasati has positive effect on teaching quality. Moreover, Madrasati has high usability in teaching. One of the key findings were that the quality of the information content in Madrasati has a strong effect on teachers' perception of the Madrasati usefulness that led to a positive attitude towards Madrasati. These findings would be useful to the ministry of education and institutions trying to integrate technology in their teaching and learning processes. Thus, this paper contributes towards more effective utilisation of the extensive functionalities that Madrasati have to offer, which will contribute toward the development of pedagogy in Saudi Arabia.

Prevention of Citrobacter freundii (MW279218) infection in Nile tilapia, Oreochromis niloticus using zinc oxide nanoparticles

Korni, Fatma M. M.,Moawad, Usama K.,Mohammed, Asmaa N.,Edrees, Asmaa The Korean Society of Fish Pathology 2022 한국어병학회지 Vol.35 No.1

Aquaculture development is based on the ideas of increasing production while reducing economic losses. Bacterial diseases are the leading source of fish cases. Citrobacter freundii has been linked to septicemia and mortality all over the world. In the current study, the cause of mortality in O. niloticus was C. freundii MW279218. External hemorrhages were seen on the affected fish, as well as paleness in the liver and kidney congestion. C. freundii MW279218 had a median lethal dosage of 1.5×105 CFU/mL. Zinc oxide and zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO-NPs) were tested for their biocidal effectiveness against C. freundii MW279218. The lethal effect of ZnO-NPs for C. freundii MW279218 was 100% when compared to zinc oxide compound, and the inhibition zone width was 2.31.1mm at the highest tested concentrations (70 mg/L) compared to the lowest (35 and 45 mg/L, respectively). Fish were fed three different diets for 28 days: diet 1 (no additives), diet 2 (100 mg of ZnO-NPs/kg of feed), and diet 3 (200 mg of ZnO-NPs/kg of feed). Organs were also collected for histopathology 96 hours after injection (P<0.05). In the groups given 200 mg of ZnO-NPs, there was 10% mortality and 80% RPS. The group fed 100 mg of ZnO-NPs/kg, on the other hand, had 20% mortality and 60% RPS, compared to 50% mortality in the control positive group. Histopathological examinations demonstrated significant alterations in the control positive group and mild lesions in the hepatopancreas of the groups administered 100 mg ZnO-NPs/kg of feed. The groups fed 200 mg of ZnO-NPs/kg diet, on the other hand, showed no histological alterations. ZnO-NPs were found to be effective in the up regulation of both IL-10 and complement 5 immune-related genes.

Tuning of the Blocking Temperature of Superparamagnetic <i>α</i>-Fe2O3 Nanoparticles by Sb Doping

Ahmed, Faheem,Arshi, Nishat,Anwar, M. S.,Alsharaeh, Edreese,Koo, Bon Heun,Azam, Ameer American Scientific Publishers 2018 Science Of Advanced Materials Vol. No.

<P>In this work, mono-disperse hematite iron oxide (alpha-Fe2O3) nanoparticles with continuously tunable sizes from 2 to 11 nm by using Sb doping in alpha-Fe2O3 were synthesized by a sonication method at room temperature followed by calcination. By varying the concentration of the Sb, precise control on the size of the alpha-Fe2O3 nanoparticles could be established. The X-ray diffraction (XRD), and high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HR-TEM) studies confirmed that the prepared nanoparticles were hematite with high crystallinity. The optical measurements showed that the band gap of the Sb-doped alpha-Fe2O3 nanoparticles increased with Sb doping. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) results showed that the alpha-Fe2O3 nanoparticles appeared as spherical dots, and the size decreased from 11 to 2 nm with Sb doping. Magnetic studies revealed that all the Sb doped samples were superparamagnetic at 300 K, and the increase in Sb doping can controllably decreased the blocking temperature from 248 K for pure alpha-Fe2O3 nanoparticles to 209 K for 5% Sb doped, respectively. The presented method might be useful for controlling the diverse size of crystalline inorganic materials for a variety of applications.</P>

      • Novel Biomimatic Synthesis of ZnO Nanorods Using Egg White (Albumen) and Their Antibacterial Studies

        Ahmed, Faheem,Arshi, Nishat,Jeong, Yeong Seung,Anwar, M. S.,Dwivedi, Saurabh,Alsharaeh, Edreese,Koo, B. H. American Scientific Publishers 2016 Journal of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology Vol.16 No.6

<P>Zinc oxide (ZnO) is well-recognized as a biocompatible multifunctional material with outstanding properties as well as low toxicity and biodegradability. In this work, a simple and versatile technique was developed to prepare highly crystalline ZnO nanorods by introducing egg white to a bio-inspired approach. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and selected area electron diffraction (SAED) pattern results indicated that the ZnO nanorods have single phase nature with the wurtzite structure. Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) and Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) results showed the nanometer dimension of the nanorods. Raman, FTIR, and TGA/DTA analyses revealed the formation of wurtzite ZnO. The antibacterial properties of ZnO nanorods were investigated using both Gram-positive and Gram-negative microorganisms. These studies demonstrate that ZnO nanorods have a wide range of antibacterial activities toward various microorganisms that are commonly found in environmental settings. Survival ratio of bacteria decreased with increasing powder concentration, i.e., increase in antibacterial activity. The antibacterial activity of the ZnO nanorods toward Pseudomonas aeruginosa was stronger than that of Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. Surprisingly, the antibacterial activity did not require specific UV activation using artificial lamps, rather activation was achieved under ambient lighting conditions. Overall, the experimental results suggest that ZnO nanorods could be developed as antibacterial agents against a wide range of microorganisms to control and prevent the spreading and persistence of bacterial infections. This research introduces a new concept to synthesize ZnO nanorods by using egg white as a biological template for various applications including food science, animal science, biochemistry, microbiology and medicine.</P>
