A lot of studies are being conducted around the world for the improvement of vehicle’s fuel efficiency. Especially, The required strength and performance of the U Joint assembly component that transfers the steering force by driver to the steering gear were developed to be suitable to each function by developing manufacture technology such as Aluminum forging, Aluminum extrusion, Hydro-forming. For the robust design, CAE analysis was executed after the initial concept design and the result of CAE analysis was applied to other designs, thereby the optimum design was accomplished. We have made the Aluminum U-Joint assembly component which is 43% lighter than the steel U-Joint assembly component. We confirmed the possibility that the Aluminum U-Joint could be applied to a high grade fuel cell vehicle.

Incipient bearing fault detection and diagnosis in an induction motor are important for prevention of drive failures. Bearing fault leads to torque oscillations which results in phase modulation of stator current. Hence, the bearing fault can be detected by checking through the fault-related frequency at stator current spectrum. In this paper, the general model of the load torque oscillated by bearing fault is developed. A set of simulation results demonstrates the efficiency of the proposed generalization of load torque model.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>In this paper, we propose a multiscale method for representing inhomogeneous functions (surfaces) from irregularly spaced noisy observations that have inherent multiscale structure. The proposed multiscale method is based on a novel combination of the standard discrete wavelet transform with newly defined pseudo data. The pseudo data, which can be considered as a preprocessing of the original data, play a crucial role in deriving the proposed method and motivating a practical algorithm. The proposed algorithm using the empirical pseudo data is computationally fast, simple to describe and easy to implement. Moreover, results from numerical examples and real data analysis demonstrate the promising empirical properties of the proposed method.</P>

A moving table driven by a stepping motor is designed and manufactured. The position error of the table is less than 0.02mm. Switching regulator is used to supply power to the motor whose windings are driven in unipolar two phase mode. The table is also able to be driven by a micro computer.

<P>The time-delay robust nonlinear dynamic inversion (TDRNDI) control technique is proposed to synchronize time-delay Chen systems. The time-delay Chen circuit is simple but exhibits complex irregular (chaotic) behavior. For this reason, this circuit can be efficiently used to encrypt messages for secure communication. In this paper, the nonlinear control-based chaos synchronization problem is considered. The proposed TDRNDI controller is a modified version of a robust nonlinear dynamic inversion (RNDI) applicable to chaotic systems, including time-delay systems. The performance and feasibility of the proposed TDRNDI controller are demonstrated by conducting numerical simulations with application to a secure communication network.</P>
