While much has been learned about the mechanisms of metastatic spread of cancer to bone, there has been little headway in establishing guidelines for monitoring the alteration in bone quality and estimating fracture risk. The aims of this study are, therefore, 1) to evaluate bone quality induced by metastatic bone tumor by analyzing the characteristics on bone microarchitecture and degree of bone mineralization and 2) analyze fracture risk increased secondary to the bone quality changes by metastatic bone tumor through calculating mechanical rigidities based on in-vivo micro CT images. For this study, eighteen female SD rats (12 weeks old, approximate 250 g) were randomly allocated in Sham and Tumor groups. W256 (Walker carcinosarcoma 256 malignant breast cancer cell) was inoculated in the right femur (intraosseous injection) in Tumor group, while 0.9% NaCl (saline solution) was injected in Sham group. The right hind limbs of all rats were scanned by in-vivo micro-CT to acquire structural parameters and degree of bone mineralization at 0 week, 4 weeks, 8 weeks, and 12 weeks after surgery. At the same time, urine was collected by metabolic cages for a biochemical marker test in order to evaluate bone resorption. Then, bone metastasis had been directly identified by positron emission tomography. Finally, axial, bending and torsional rigidities had been calculated based on in-vivo micro CT images for predict fracture risk. The results of this study showed that metastatic bone tumor might induce significant decrease in bone quality and increase of fracture risk. This study may be helpful to monitoring a degree of bone metastasis and predicting fracture risk due to metastatic bone tumor. In addition, this noninvasive diagnostic methodology may be utilized for evaluating other bone metabolic diseases such as osteoporosis.

Little information is available about the characteristics in revolution gait of hemiplegic elderly, which is frequently represented in daily life. It is also hard to elucidate purely the characteristics due to hemiplegia because of no consideration of aging factors. The aim of study is to identify the alteration characteristics of lower extremity joint angles in both straight and revolution gaits together due to hemiplegia through comparing healthy with hemiplegic elderly. Following Institutional Review Board approval, twelve healthy and hemiplegic elderly were participated and the center of body mass (COM) and lower extremity joint angles were measured during straight and revolution gaits using a computer-aided video motion capture system. The results showed that the gait characteristics were generally altered in both straight and revolution gaits due to hemiplegia (p < 0.05). The gait characteristics were then different between the straight and revolution gaits each other. This study may be valuable by identifying for the first time the alterations of the lower extremity joint angles in both straight and revolution gaits due to pure hemiplegia through comparing healthy elderly with hemiplegic elderly.

Many studies have reported that housework done using household appliances may affect biomechanical characteristics of the musculoskeletal system. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of housework done using a pulsator washing machine on joints and muscles. We calculated joint torques and muscle strengths on the basis of an experimental/virtual three-dimensional motion analysis for six healthy females using the pulsator washing machine at different heights (H) and depths (D) of the inside drum (H (mm){\times}D (mm), Trial1: $962.5{\times}609.4$, Trial2: $962.5{\times}624.4$, Trial3: $982.5{\times}644.4$, Trial4: $995.5{\times}642.4$, Trial5: $1015.5{\times}677.4$). The joint torques and muscle strengths tended to be considerably different during torso flexion in the sagittal plane for all the trials. The maximum joint torques for the thoracic vertebra, left ankle, and right shoulder measured in Trial4 were significantly higher than those measured in the other trials (p < 0.05); in addition, those for the thoracic vertebra and both ankles measured in Trial5 were significantly higher than those measured in the other trials (p < 0.05). The maximum muscle strengths for the left trapezius muscle and both tibialis anterior muscles measured in Trial5 were significantly higher than those measured in the other trials (p < 0.05). These results indicate that housework done using a pulsator washing machine may affect joint torques and muscle strengths, and these effects are dependent on the height and/or depth of the inside drum of the pulsator washing machine.
반치환 슬관절의 설계 평가를 위한 굴곡각도에 따른 곡률반경과 접촉응력의 상관도 분석

Conformity between the femoral component and tibial insert within the knee replacement may be measured in frontal or sagittal view, and shows differences in the curvature radius of the femoral component depending on the flexion angle, i.e., curvature radius has a complex effect on contact stress. Therefore, it is essential to confirm how the curvature radius effects contact stress, and provide an important variable to reduce contact stress. This study correlated contact stress with curvature radius measured in frontal and the sagittal views and confirmed the effect of curvature radius for assessment of the Newly Designed Unicompartment Knee Replacement (NDUKR). Finite element models were constructed for NDUKR and $Zimmer^{(R)}$ Unicompartment High Flex Knee Replacement system (ZUKR), incorporating the curvature radius as measured in either frontal or sagittal view. The femoral component had 1200N of compressive load applied approximately 1.65xbody weight. Contact stress was predicted at flexion angles $0^{\circ}C$, $30^{\circ}C$, $60^{\circ}C$, $90^{\circ}C$ and $120^{\circ}C$, for NDUKR: 42, 47.7, 47.7, 51.2, and 54.1 MPa, and ZUKR: 41.2, 49.5, 53.2, 54.3, and 57.4 MPa, respectively. Correlation analysis showed the influence of curvature radius measured from the sagittal view was larger than for frontal view.
순환여과양식 시스템 기반 인공 조제 배출수의 고분자 응집제 및 오존 처리 후 수질 변화

As the demand for environmentally friendly aquaculture systems increases, it is essential to establish effective treatment methods for wastewater produced. Accordingly, an evaluation was conducted on the water quality changes resulting from the treatment of wastewater from recirculating aquaculture systems using polymeric flocculants and ozone. The flocculant was introduced into the wastewater at concentrations of 2-10 μL/g TSS, followed by ozone treatment of the supernatant after flocculant treatment at ozone loads of 12.5-300 mg O3/g TSS. The study observed differences in particulate matter and water quality concentrations based on the levels of flocculant treatment, with the most effective treatment noted at a condition of 4 μL/g TSS of the flocculant. Moreover, the size of particulate matter in the treated wastewater was mostly above 100 μm, indicating significant potential to enhance the performance of physical filtration systems, especially when considering the typical pore size of such systems. The ozone treatment showed the most efficient results under conditions of 37.5 mg O3/g TSS, suggesting that a combined approach of filtration using polymeric coagulants and geotextile bags, along with ozone treatment, could be applied as an eco-friendly means of wastewater treatment, minimizing pollution loads to the external environment.
