Weakly Nonergodic Dynamics in the Gross-Pitaevskii Lattice

<P>The microcanonical Gross-Pitaevskii (also known as the semiclassical Bose-Hubbard) lattice model dynamics is characterized by a pair of energy and norm densities. The grand canonical Gibbs distribution fails to describe a part of the density space, due to the boundedness of its kinetic energy spectrum. We define Poincare equilibrium manifolds and compute the statistics of microcanonical excursion times off them. The tails of the distribution functions quantify the proximity of the many-body dynamics to a weakly nonergodic phase, which occurs when the average excursion time is infinite. We find that a crossover to weakly nonergodic dynamics takes place inside the non-Gibbs phase, being unnoticed by the largest Lyapunov exponent. In the ergodic part of the non-Gibbs phase, the Gibbs distribution should be replaced by an unknown modified one. We relate our findings to the corresponding integrable limit, close to which the actions are interacting through a short range coupling network.</P>

Purpose: The aim of this study was to objectively detect simulated tooth ankylosis using a novel method involving cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT). Materials and Methods: Tooth ankylosis was simulated in single-rooted human permanent teeth, and CBCT scans were acquired at different current levels (5, 6.3, and 8 mA) and voxel sizes (0.08, 0.125, and 0.2). In axial reconstructions, a line of interest was perpendicularly placed over the periodontal ligament space of 21 ankylosed and 21 non-ankylosed regions, and the CBCT grey values of all voxels along the line of interest were plotted against their corresponding X-coordinates through a line graph to generate a profile. The image contrast was increased by 30% and 60% and the profile assessment was repeated. The internal area of the resulting parabolas was obtained from all images and compared between ankylosed and non-ankylosed regions under different contrast enhancement conditions, voxel sizes, and mA levels using multi-way analysis of variance with the Tukey post hoc test (α = 0.05). Results: The internal area of the parabolas of all non-ankylosed regions was significantly higher than that of the ankylosed regions (P<0.05). Contrast enhancement led to a significantly greater internal area of the parabolas of non- ankylosed regions (P<0.05). Overall, voxel size and mA did not significantly influence the internal area of the parabolas (P>0.05). Conclusion: The proposed novel method revealed a relevant degree of applicability in the detection of simulated tooth ankylosis; increased image contrast led to greater detectability.

Purpose: This study was conducted evaluate the influence of reconstruction parameters of micro-computed tomography (micro-CT) images on bone mineral density (BMD) analyses. Materials and Methods: The sample consisted of micro-CT images of the maxillae of 5 Wistar rats, acquired using a SkyScan 1174 unit (Bruker, Kontich, Belgium). Each acquisition was reconstructed following the manufacturer’s recommendations (standard protocol; SP) for the application of artifact correction tools (beam hardening correction [BHC], 45%; smoothing filter, degree 2; and ring artifact correction [RAC], level 5). Additionally, images were reconstructed with 36 protocols combining different settings of artifact correction tools (P0 to P35). BMD analysis was performed for each reconstructed image. The BMD values obtained for each protocol were compared to those obtained using the SP through repeated-measures analysis of variance with the Dunnett post hoc test (α=0.05). Results: The BMD values obtained from all protocols that used a BHC of 45% did not significantly differ from those obtained using the SP (P>0.05). The other protocols all yielded significantly different BMD values from the SP (P<0.05). The smoothing and RAC tools did not affect BMD values. Conclusion: BMD values measured on micro-CT images were influenced by the BHC level. Higher levels of BHC induced higher values of BMD.

유럽연합 입법부가 2003년 10월111)에 교토 협안112)(2002년 4월) 안에 있는 방사물들 감소에 대처하기 위하여 (2005년에 시작된 하나의 단계) CO2 방사물 상업에 종사하는 자를 위하여 계획안을 제의하였다(EU 방사물 상업종사 계획안 또는 ETS). 3년 후에 첫 번째 계획안 단계가 끝남으로써 무엇보다도 두 번째와 세 번째 단계에 관해서 말로 표명되어 있는 관여물들이 두 번째 단계에 천천히 탄력이 붙었다. 이 문제점들은 가지각색의 주 구성원의 주권과 유럽 법령의 집중된 힘 사이에서 균형을 유지하기 위하여 유럽연합법들이 노력하고 있는 것에 깊이 생각되어질 것이다. 주요 논점들은 다음과 같다. 유럽은 환경 보호를 위하여 다량의 산업의 급증하는 요구를 반대할 예정인가? ETS에 의하여 축적된 막대한 유로의 이익을 얻는 것은 유럽연합과 구성원 중 누구인가? 무엇보다도 : 유럽연합 행정부와 입법부가 어떻게 CO2 방사물 감소지역에 가려고 노력할 것인가? In October 2003, in order to meet emission reduction objectives as laid down within the Kyoto Protocol (April 2002), the European Union (EU) Legislature has set up a scheme (whose phase one started in 2005) for trading CO2 emission allowances (‘EU Emission Trading Scheme’ or ETS). Three years later, as the first phase of the scheme ends and the second phase slowly gains momentum, concerns are being voiced regarding this second phase and above all the third phase. Issues are to be considered in the light of the EU Law’s struggle to set a balance between its various States Members national sovereignty and the centralized power of European Institutions. The mains questions are as follows. Is Europe’s heavy industry going to resist the ever-growing demand for environmental protection? Who from the European Union or the Member States is going to benefit from the billions of Euros amassed by the ETS? Above all: how far will the European Union executive branch and legislature dare to go in the field of CO2 emission reduction?

Renewal (tajdīd) has been one of the most controversial issues in the Islamic world. Throughout Islamic history, and especially since the Ottoman Empire started to lose ground to the West, there has been much debate about matters that need changing and how change should happen. One group that was both the subject and the agent of the change was the Sufis. One such influential Sufi mujaddid (innovator) was Khālid al-Baghdādī (d.1827). His innovative approaches have allowed Sufism to transform into activism, serving as a model for Sufis as well as for non-Sufi movements across all sectors of life. This study, which explores some conceptual similarities between Khālid al-Baghdādī’s innovative practices and social capital, analyzes his thoughts, and offers a conceptual framework in order to explain the complexity of the activities of the organizations he influenced, and to describe the process of producing social activism out of Sufism and the Sufi orders (ṭarīqa). It is hoped this study, by being the first attempt to look at Sufism from the perspective of social capital theory will serve as a starting point for further research.
