High-quality meat is of great economic importance to the pig industry. The 1-acylglycerol-3- phosphate-O-acyltransferase 5 (AGPAT5) enzyme converts lysophosphatidic acid to phosphatidic acid in the mitochondrial membrane. In this study, we found that the porcine AGPAT5 gene was highly expressed in muscle tissue, influencing meat characteristics, and we also identified a non-synonymous single-nucleotide polymorphism (nsSNP) (rs196952262, c.673 A>G) in the gene, associated with a change of isoleucine 225 to valine. The presence of this nsSNP was significantly associated with meat color (lightness), lower cooking loss, and lower carcass temperatures 1, 4, and 12 h after slaughter (items T1, T4, and T12 on the recognized quality scale, respectively), and tended to increase backfat thickness and the waterholding capacity. These results suggest that nsSNP (c.673A>G) of the AGPAT5 gene is a potential genetic marker of high meat quality in pigs.

Desmoplastic ameloblastoma is a rare histologic variant of ameloblastoma. It shows important differences in anatomic distribution, histologic appearance, and radiographic findings compared with the general type of ameloblastoma. It is histologically characterized by an abundance of densely collagenous stroma and radiographically a mixed radiolucent-radiopaque lesion. We present three cases of desmoplastic ameloblastoma. All the patients complained on buccal swelling with or without pain and the sites of occurrence were the anterior and the premolar region. Plain radiographs showed mixed radiopaque-radiolucent lesion with ill-defined or diffuse sclerotic margin and no external root resorption. Additionally, CT scans revealed buccal expansion and relatively well-defined margin of the lesions. The clinical and radiographic features of the presented cases were compared with those of the desmoplastic ameloblastoma in the previous literatures. (Korean J Oral Maxillofac Radiol 2006; 36 : 63-8)

The tyrosinase (TYR) genes have been accepted as major genes involved in the plumage pigmentation of chickens. Tyrosinase (TYR) gene is located on chromosome 1 in chicken and it is composed of five exons and four introns. TYR gene is described as a key enzyme in melanin biosynthesis. Especially, most examples of color patterns in chicken have been due to differential in the tyrosinase gene. This study was conducted to the association of feather color and sequence polymorphism in the Tyrosinase(TYR) gene was investigated using Korean native chickens(red plumage, red-line plumage, Ogol = KNC) and white leghorn(WL). From WL and KNC breed analyses, 232 differential SNPs were detected in 4th exon and 4th intron of TYR gene respectively. The genotype frequencies for 50 SNPs were compared between KCR, KCRD and KCO represented homozygous SNP types in all the analyzed SNP positions while KNC displayed various SNP types. In this study, we conclude that the variation of a wild type sequence in intron 4 of the tyrosinase gene is pigmentation of the original native chickens in korean. <P>The three-phase equilibrium lines of the SF6 + H2 mixed gas hydrate system were measured by the method of continuous measurement using a quartz crystal microbalance. The gas-hydrate equilibrium data were obtained at pressures ranging from (0.3 to 4.5) MPa and at temperatures from (279.15 to 283.15) K. The nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectra of <I>x</I>H2 = 0.75 mixed gas hydrate at pressures of (4.5 and 5.5) MPa and at a temperature of 279.65 K showed the presence of encaged hydrogen in small cages. This paper presents a dual-motor drive system with a three-phase two-level inverter for independent speed control of a three-phase motor and a single-phase motor. The single-phase motor is connected in series between the neutral point of the three-phase motor and the midpoint of two split DC-link capacitors. As the single-phase motor current is a zero-sequence component flowing in the three-phase motor, it does not affect the operation of the three-phase motor. The proposed drive system can reduce the number of power switches compared with the conventional drive system that uses a single-phase and a three-phase inverter. Thus, the proposed system can reduce the cost of the drive system. Simulations and experiments are presented to verify the proposed drive system.
