Background: Reticulocyte Hemoglobin Equivalent (RET-HE) is a new parameter for evaluation of iron status. The aim of this study was to assess the accuracy of RET-HE in identifi cation of iron defi ciency in regular haemodialysis patients and to investigate RET-HE as a tool to monitor responses to intravenous iron supplementation. Methods: Seventy-two regular haemodialysis patients at Adam Malik Hospital, Medan, Indonesia were studied from April to May 2011. Hemoglobin (Hb), serum ferritin, serum transferrin saturation (TSAT) and RET-HE were measured. RET-HE was compared with conventional iron parameters (serum ferritin and TSAT) for identifi cation of iron defi ciency. fifteen patients with iron defi ciency anemia (Hb =10 g/dl with serum ferritin <100 ng/ml and/or TSAT <20%) were selected to receive 100 mg iron sucrose intravenous during every dialysis session (2x/weeks) for 4 weeks. Changes in Hb and RET-HE after intervention were analyzed. Results: Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis for RET-HE revealed values of the area under the curve for RET-HE was 0.818 (p <0.0001) and at cutoff level 31.65 pg the sensitivity was 81.5% and specifi city was 61.1%. Serum ferritin (r =0.499, p <0.0001) and TSAT (r = 0.592, p <0.0001) correlated to RET-HE. Hb and RET-HE before intervention were 8.65±1.09 g/dl and 29.98±3.85 pg, respectively. After intervention they were 9.98±1.77 g/dl and 32.6±3.24 pg, respectively. Signifi cant improvement in Hb and RET-HE were found (p =0.023 and p =0.019). Conclusions: RET-HE is a useful marker of iron defi ciency in regular haemodialysis patients. RET-HE can also be used to monitor responses to intravenous iron supplementation.

This study aims to analyze the effect of corporate communication and service quality on loyalty mediating satisfaction. The population of this study is 384 Islamic bank customers in North Sumatra. This research is quantitative research using the survey method. The number of research samples was 384 customers. Characteristics of this research sample were (1) Savings customers who actively carried out transactions in Islamic banks (2) Savings customers who had used bank services for at least 1 year (3) Savings customers who used services directly and individually. The data analysis technique used in this study was the Partial Least Squares-Structural Equation Model (SEM-PLS) analysis technique, using Warp-PLS 3.0 software. This study investigates the largest Islamic banks in North Sumatra, namely Bank Syariah Mandiri, Bank BNI Syariah, and Bank BRI Syariah. The results show that company communication has a positive and significant effect on satisfaction, service quality has a positive and significant effect on satisfaction, company communication has a positive and significant effect on loyalty, service quality has a positive and significant effect on loyalty, satisfaction has a positive and significant effect on loyalty. There is also a significant effect of satisfaction on the relationship between company communication and loyalty, and the relationship between service quality and loyalty. This study contributes to Islamic banking to increase customer loyalty.

New localities and updated distribution of two endemic Rafflesia R.Br. (Rafflesiaceae) species from MountLeuser National Park, Sumatra namely Rafflesia lawangensis Mat-Salleh, Mahyuni & Susatya and Rafflesiamicropylora Meijer are reported. Rafflesia lawangensis is formerly known only from its type locality inTualang Gepang, Bukit Lawang area (North Sumatra province), while R. micropylora is found in severallocalities including Sungai Jernih, Lokop, Ketambe, Lawe Mamas, and Kuala Kompas (Aceh province). Here, we report a new locality of R. lawangensis in Tangkahan (North Sumatra province) about 10 kmfrom its type locality, and two new localities of R. micropylora in Batu Katak and in Cinta Raja (NorthSumatra province). We also update the conservation status of both Rafflesia species and assessR. lawangensis as Critically Endangered and R. micropylora as Endangered. In this study, a completedistribution map of both species, habitat characteristics, and an identification key are also provided to beused for conservation managers.
