Observation of Periodicity of Behavior according to the Viscosity of the Impact Droplet

Drop-based printing technology allows precisely controlled, small volumes of liquid to be delivered to the correct location. Many researchers have been actively conducted to combine the droplet-based printing technology with printed electronics technology, 3D printing technology (e.g., Polyjet 3D Printing), and bio-printing technology. In the above printing techniques, stable deposition conditions of droplets according to various liquid properties are essential for successful printing results. In this study, we observed the periodicity of the motion after the droplet collision according to the viscosity of the liquid. Droplets of various viscosities controlled by ratio of water and glycerol were free-falling on the polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) surface, and the collision process was recorded with a high-speed camera to analyze the motion of the droplet. As a result of the experiment, it was observed that the oscillation period of the glycerin-water mixture having a low glycerin mixing ratio appeared, and the vibration period of the droplets increased as the viscosity increased
