        In order to develop the curriculum of the fishery department in the fisheries Jr. college, We have collected and analyzed the domistic and foreign data adquated to the fishey department under the international trend, also we gathered the opinion from the inquiring paper investigation and consultation to the industrial field, concerned college and graduate during the 6 month from September 1982. The fishery department curriculum in fisheries Jr. college will be industrialized with the concerned technics and knowledge in relation to speciality of maritime affairs. Accordingly, we have developed the adquate curriculum which is practical and can be cultivated the technician to adopt in the industrial society.

        뇌 손상 환자에서 이중분광계수를 사용한 의식수준의 측정

        Background: It is important to assess the level of consciousness in patients with brain injuries to determine modes of treatment and prognosis. We evaluated the Bispectral Index (BIS) to determine if it could be used as an objective tool for evaluation of the level of consciousness in brain-injured patients. We also compared the BIS values to clinical sedation scales such as the Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS), Richmond Agitation-Sedation Scale (RASS), and the Reaction Level Scale (RLS). Methods: Thirty eight patients with brain injuries that were admitted to the neurosurgery intensive care unit (NSICU) were enrolled in this study. An investigator evaluated the clinical sedation scales (GCS, RASS, RLS), while a blind observer noted the BIS in the same patient. The BIS score was obtained three times at an interval of 5 hours. The BISs were measured for 1 minute at 5 min prior to the nursing assessment, during the nursing assessment, and at 5 min after the nursing assessment. The BISs used in the data analysis were the maximal, minimal, and mean values obtained during 1 min, which were defined as BISmax, BISmin, and BISmean. A Spearman`s rank correlation coefficient was used to determine if the clinical sedation scales were correlated with the BIS scores. Results: In 38 patients, the BISmax, BISmin, and BISmean were found to be significantly correlated with the GCS, RASS, and RLS. The BISmean had the highest correlation with GCS (r=0.445, P<0.01), while the BIS min had the lowest correlation with RLS (r=-0.278, P<0.01). Conclusions: The results of BIS monitoring were found to be significantly correlated with sedation scales in patients with brain injuries. These findings suggest that BIS can be used as an objective and continuous method for assessment of the level of consciousness in patients with brain injury. (Korean J Anesthesiol 2009;57:185∼9)

      • Occurrence and damages of Contarinia maculipennis Felt (Diptera: Cedidomyiidae) on Dendrobium phalaenopsis (Asparagales: Orchidaceae)

        Blossom midge, Contarinia maculipennis Felt (Diptera: Cecidomyiidae) is originated in Southeast Asia and has been present in Japan, USA and Hawaii. Recently, C. maculipennis was intercepted in Japan, USA and Netherlands with orchid flowers imported from Southeast Asian countries. This pest is designated as quarantine pest in Korea because of its potential damages to vegetables and ornamental plants in case when this pest introduced in Korea. C. maculipennis has known to feed inside unopened flower buds, causing deformed, discolored buds and blossoms. And, in severe infestations, cause premature bud or blossom drop. In Korea, similar damage symptoms have been reported in western orchids which mighty be caused by C. maculipennis from Mid-2000s, especially on D. phalaenopsis. An official recognition to C. maculipennis was given in 2007. And, the occurrences of C. maculipennis and its damages were investigated mainly on D. phalaenopsis in 2008~2009. We emphasize caution about recognizing the possibilities that C. maculipennis could infest flower buds of an orchids and carry out management strategies for this pest in the future.

      • Pasteuria penetrans endospore attachment on root-knot nematode juveniles affected by temperature and nematicides treatments

        This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of temperature and nematicides on endospore attachment characteristics of 2 Korean isolates of nematodeparasitic bacteria, Pasteuria penetrans. P. penetrans CJ-1 and 98-35 isolates and 3 species of root-knot nematodes in U. of Florida were used ; Meloidogyne incognita (MI), M. arenaria (MA), and M. javanica (MJ). Three nematicide levels of 2, 4, and 6 ppm were compared by treating Vydate and Nemacur in the endospore containing soils. The endospores were attached to the root-knot nematode juveniles by centrifugal method. Reproduction of the isolates was checked by observing root-knot nematode females harvested from inoculated tomato roots. 1. Among the two Korean isolates, 98-35 showed attachments to MI, MA, and MJ juveniles, but it could not reproduce in any species. CJ-1 reproduced on all the 3 tested root-knot nematode species. 2. Endospores pretreated in -14°C showed higher attachment rate than those pretreated in 4, 24, and 40℃. 3. Nemacur treatments significantly suppressed the attachment of the endospores to the juveniles, while Vydate treatment effects were negligible.

        Occurrence of Pasteuria spp. Associated with Plant-parasitic Nematodes in Korea

        A survey was conducted on the occurrence of Pasteuria spp. associated with plant-parasitic nematodes in greenhouse and open field soils in Korea from 1996 to 2000. Among the 372 soil samples assayed, 20 samples had plant-parasitic nematodes attached with Pasteuria spp. endospores. The nematodes found with Pasteuria endospores and their collection sites were Meloidogyne spp. in Sungju, Cheju, and Yeoju and Helicotylenchus sp., Pratylenchus sp., Heterodera sp., and Aphelenchus sp. in Cheju. Morphological characteristics of the endospores on Meloidogyne incognita juveniles observed under light, scanning and transmission electron microscopes were same as the previous description of Pasteuria penetrans Sayre & Starr 1988.

      • 방사선에 저항을 나타내는 다형성 교모세포종의 감수성 증가를 위한 유전자 전이

        성인 뇌종양 중에서 가장 많은 빈도를 차지하고 있는 다형성 교모세포종에 대한 치료 성적은 지난 수십 년간의 많은 발전과 노력에도 불구하고 중앙 생존기간이 1년 조금 넘는 정도에 지나지 않는다. 이에 반해 수모세포종은 방사선에 민감한 종양으로 5년 생존율이 60%에 이른다. 두 종양간에 이러한 차이를 나타내는 중요한 이유는 수모세포종과 다형성 교모세포종에서 p53가 p21BAX 발현을 유도할 수 있는가에 따라 차이가 나는 것으로 보고되고 있고 이를 토대로 한 치료 응용 가능성에 대하여 연구가 진행되고 있다. 가장 많은 연구가 이루어진 p53에 대하여 다형성 교모세포종의 치료에 응용시 가장 큰 문제점은 다형성 교모세포종의 세포군이 p53 변이가 있는 것과 없는 것으로 불균일 하게 이루어져 p53 변이가 있는 세포에 대하여는 반응을 나타내지만 p53 변이가 없는 세포군에 대하여는 p53를 이용한 유전자 요법이 효과를 별로 보이지 않는 것을 알았다. 그러나 방사선 치료를 함께 시행할 경우 이러한 문제점을 극복할 수 있었다. 다형성 교모세포종의 생성이 한 가지 유전자 결함에 의한 것이 아니므로, 치료 가능성이 있는 다른 종양 억제 유전자들 즉 p16, Rb, E2F-1, 등을 동시에 암 세포에 전달하여 치료하는 것에 대한 연구가 진행될 것으로 생각된다. 이러한 치료가 성공되기 위해서 간과할 수 없는 중요한 분야가 전달 매개체이다. 현재 편리함과 효용성 때문에 바이러스를 이용한 유전자 전달이 가장 각광을 받고 있다. 현재 강력하고 안전한 바이러스를 개발하고자 연구하고 있다. 현재까지 개발된 매개체로는 모든 암세포에 유전자를 전달하는 것이 불가능하므로 유전자 치료는 기존의 치료 효과를 상승시키는 것에 초점을 맞추고 있다. 이러한 점에서 방사선 치료와 약물 치료는 유전자 치료의 효과를 상승시킬 수 있고 그 효과가 입증되고 있다. 암 치료에서 종양 억제 유전자(tumor suppressor gene)를 사용하는 것은 암을 정복하기 위한 중요한 진보이며 전략이라고 생각이 된다. 암의 감추어진 비밀들이 밝혀짐에 따라 암 치료를 담당하는 임상가들은 가까운 장래에 암에 대항한 새로운 무기로 무장하게 될 것이다. 이것은 기존의 수술, 방사선 치료, 약물 치료의 한계를 극복하게 할 것이고 환자와 의사들이 겪어야 했던 좌절을 없애줄 것이다. Glioblastoma multlforme is the most common type of adult brain tumor among malignant astrocytoma. Even though with great development of oncology and big efforts since last decades, only modest improvement of survival is achieved. However, medulloblastoma which is radiosensitive tumor shows up to 60 % of 5 year survival. It is reported that the major reason of different result is coming from the ability to expressing proapoptotic p21BAX induced from p53. And this finding can be applied to novel therapy for cancer. In the clinical trial using p53 which is studied in great detail, one of the obstacle for gene therapy is the fact that glioblastoma is consisted with heterogeneous tumor cell population of mutant p53 and wild-type p53. Clinical meaning of heterogeneity is that response to gene transfer is different between wild-type p53 and mutant p53 cell lines. However, it could be overcome when p53 gene transfer is combined with radiation. Because the genesis of glioblastoma multiforme is not coming from only one genetic abnormality, other genes like p16, Rb, E2F-1 which are related with genesis and progression of glioblastoma multiforme will be used simultaneously for successful gene therapy. The other important area should not be overlooked for the success of gene transfer is vector. Virus is used most frequently in the aspect of the convenience and efficiency among other vectors. Since the delivery of the therapeutic gene to every tumor cell is beyond the capability of the vectors currently available, gene therapy is focusing on enhancing the effect of existing therapies. In this regard, both radiation theapy and conventional chemotherapeutic agents are able to augment the antitumoral effect of gene therapy strategies. Most of the studies performed with such combinations have demonstrated the superiority of this approach as compared with single therapies. I believe that it is a big advancenlent and important strategy to apply tumor suppressor gene transfer to conquer cancer. As the cancer is being revealed its hidden face, oncologist will be equipped themselves with new weapon in the near future. And it will lead them overcome the limitation of the traditional treatment modality for cancer and also will wipe eyes of patients and blow away the frustrations from doctors.

        Mixed Lubrication Analysis of Cam/Tappet Interface on the Direct Acting Type Valvetrain System

        This paper reports on the mixed lubrication characteristics between the cam and the tappet contact surface of direct acting type valve train systems. First, the dynamic characteristics are solved by using the lumped mass method to determine the load conditions at the contact point. Then, the minimum oil film thickness is calculated with consideration of elastohydrodynamic line contact theory and the friction force is obtained by using the mixed lubrication model which separates the hydrodynamic and the boundary friction. Finally, the average surface temperatures are calculated by using the flash temperature theory. The results show that, there are some peaks in the friction force due to the asperity contact friction, and flash temperature at the position of minimum oil film thickness. It is thought that there is a relationship between the surface temperature and cam surface wear, and therefore, the analysis on the worn cam profile has been performed.
