Numerical and analytical investigation of cyclic behavior of D-Shape yielding damper

The purpose of this research was to investigate the cyclic behavior of the D-shaped dampers (DSD). Similarly, at first, the numerical model was calibrated using the experimental sample. Then, parametric studies were conducted in order to investigate the effect of the radius and thickness of the damper on energy dissipation, effective and elastic stiffness, ultimate strength, and equivalent viscous damping ratio (EVDR). An analytical equation for the elastic stiffness of the DSD was also proposed, which showed good agreement with experimental results. Additionally, approximate equations were introduced to calculate the elastic and effective stiffness, ultimate strength, and energy dissipation. These equations were presented according to the curve fitting technique and based on numerical results. The results indicated that reducing the radius and increasing the thickness led to increased energy dissipation, effective stiffness, and ultimate strength of the damper. On the other hand, increasing the radius and thickness resulted in an increase in EVDR. Moreover, the ratio of effective stiffness to elastic stiffness also played a crucial role in increasing the EVDR. The thickness and radius of the damper were evaluated as the most effective dimensions for reducing energy dissipation and EVDR.
Lack of Association between Using Aspirin and Development of Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma: A Meta-analysis

Background: Non-Hodgkins lymphoma (NHL) is a heterogeneous group of malignancies, originating in the lymphatic organs, whose incidence is increasing in developed as well as developing countries. Epidemiological evidence suggests that aspirin may reduce the incidence and mortality of several cancers. The main objective of this study was to evaluate the potential relationship between using aspirin and development of NHL with a meta-analysis. Materials and Methods: A total of 7 studies were included. Outcome was calculated and reported as odds ratios (ORs). Heterogeneity was assessed with Cochrane Q and $I^2$ statistics. Dissemination bias was evaluated by funnel plot visualization and trim-and-fill analysis. Results: Our analysis showed OR of developing NHL overall of 1(95% CI: 0.87-1.16, p=0.9), and in females this was 0.81 (95%CI: 0.72-.92, p=0.001) and in males 1.01 (95%CI: 0.82-1.26, p=0.86). The odds ratio (OR) of chronic lymphocytic leukemia/small lymphocytic lymphoma (CLL/SLL) was 0.85 (95%CI: 0.75-0.97, p=0.02), The ORs of follicular lymphoma (FL) and large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) in individuals exposed to aspirin were 1.12 (95%CI: 0.86-1.45, p=0.37) and 1.03 (95%CI: 0.9-1.19, p=0.6) respectively. Conclusions: In conclusion, individuals taking aspirin do not demonstrate any change in risk of Non-Hodgkins lymphoma.

This paper discusses the application of piezoelectric sensors used for evaluation of damping ratio of PVC plastics. The development of the mathematical formulation based on the Empirical Mode Decomposition for calculating the damping coefficient and natural frequency of the system is presented. A systematic experimental and analytical investigation was also carried out to demonstrate the integrity of several methods commonly used to evaluate the damping of materials based on a single degree freedom formulation. The influence of the sensors' location was also investigated. Besides the commonly used methods, a newly emerging time-frequency method, namely the Empirical Mode decomposition, is also employed. Mathematical formulations based on the Hilbert-Huang formulation, and a frequency spacing technique were also developed for establishing the natural frequency and damping ratio based on the output voltage of a single piezoelectric sensor. An experimental investigation was also conducted and the results were compared and verified with Finite Element Analysis (FEA), revealing good agreement.

Multi Degree of Freedom Joints (MDJ) are typically thought to be used for industrial purposes however they are beginning to gain the attention of the medical field. A current application pertains to using the precision and stability of a robot arm with MDJ to assist in minimally invasive surgery. In this research, adaptive sliding mode controls are presented as robust controls for multi degree of freedom joints. The objective of the study is to design controls for actuators without the knowledge of boundary of uncertainties/disturbances by using an adaptive sliding mode control while elucidating the robustness of the adaptive sliding mode control. A sliding mode control provides for ultimate accuracy in the presence of the bounded disturbance/uncertainties, although the sliding mode control also causes chattering. Chattering is undesirable for use with robot medical tools, since it might causes damage to them with a subsequent loss of accuracy and oscillation on end-effectors tools. Such chatter is caused by overestimation of the controller gain. An adaptive sliding mode is proposed as a solution to the problems created by chattering.
Literature Review on Matching Composite Sketches to Facial Photographs

Establishing security in every society needs to practical activities and using emerging technologies which are extended by having positive influence in human life. Law enforcement agencies are using biometrical tools for apprehension of suspect on the large scale. In most of the cases the mugshot or photograph of suspect is not available so, two methods can help police for arresting the accused forensic sketch and composite sketch software. Composite sketch is generating facial sketch by selecting face components through software. In this research article, we have considered three most important methods for matching composite sketches to face photo: (i) Component Base Representation(CBR) algorithm, (ii) the FaceSketchID system, and (iii) Human Visual System Algorithms.
Common Cancers in Khuzestan Province, South West of Iran, during 2005-2011

Cancer is the third highest cause of premature mortality in Iran. We aimed to determine trend of common cancers in Khuzestan province, Iran. Methods: It was a hospital based survey on 4065 subjects from their hospital files, those had registered as cancer case in Shafa hospital which has known as a biggest center of cancer in khuzestan province, Iran during 2005-2011.All data has entered by SPSS (version 19), descriptive statistic and adjusted odds ratio of common cancers for age and sex were calculated from multiple logistic regression model. Results: From all subjects; (51% & 49%) were male and female respectively. The most frequent age group was 60-50 years and common cancers were breast 16%, colorectal 6.3%, blood 2%, lung 8% and stomach 8%. Conclusion: Prevalence of cancers has increased markedly with age in Khuzestan Providence. Therefore, it is essential to prevent through early prevention, using screening and identifying cases in initial stages.
