<P>We present a new series of fullerene derivatives that exhibit solubility in ethanol/water solvent mixtures and implement these materials to fabricate polymer solar cells (PSCs) using environmentally benign solvents. In order to simultaneously optimize the processability of the fullerenes in ethanol/water solvent mixtures and device performance, different fullerene mono-adducts were designed by introducing oligoethylene glycol side chains with different lengths and number of branches. As a result, we achieved power conversion efficiencies up to 1.4% for PSCs processed from benign ethanol/water mixtures in air. Significantly, the new alcohol/water-soluble fullerene derivatives displayed electron mobilities up to 1.30 × 10<SUP>-4</SUP> cm<SUP>2</SUP> V<SUP>-1</SUP> s<SUP>-1</SUP>, 150 times higher than those of a previously reported alcohol-soluble fullerene bis-adduct, owing to efficient packing of the fullerenes. Femtosecond transient absorption spectroscopy revealed the acceptor side chain to markedly impact geminate and/or nongeminate charge recombination in the PSCs. In addition, side chain optimization of these fullerenes produced well-intermixed morphologies with high domain purity when blended with p-type polymer to provide hole and electron transport pathways. Our results provide important guidelines for the design of electroactive materials for safe and environmentally benign fabrication of PSCs and other organic electronic devices.</P> [FIG OMISSION]</BR>

<P>Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is the most aggressive primary brain tumor, and notorious for resistance to chemoradiotherapy. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are significantly involved in the initiation and progression of numerous cancers; however, the role of miRNAs in recurrence of tumors remains unknown. Here we tried to identify novel miRNAs that are differentially expressed in recurrent GBM. Tissue samples were obtained from patients with primary and recurrent GBM treated with chemoradiotherapy, and the expression changes of miRNAs were measured by microarray. A total of 318 miRNAs were expressed in the GBM patients. The expression of 43 miRNAs were significantly altered at least 2-fold in primary and recurrent GBMs. Bioinformatic analysis revealed that the differentially expressed miRNAs and their putative target genes were mainly involved in cell death, cellular development, and cellular growth and proliferation, which are the key regulators for stem cells. Pathway analysis supported that the miRNAs may regulate signaling associated with induction and maintenance of cancer and stem cell, such as p53, ErbB1, Notch, Wnt, and TGF-β signaling pathways. These data suggest that, in recurrent GBM, growth factor and anti-apoptotic signalings for cancer cell growth and proliferation are regulated by miRNAs. Our findings will aid future research in understanding the pathophysiology of recurrent GBM and identifying diagnostic markers and/or therapeutic targets for recurrence of GBM.</P>

This paper presents a dynamic effect of clay types and content on low salinity water-flooding (LSF) basedon coreflooding experiments. The EDL (electrical double layer) expansion, MIE (multicomponent ionexchange), local pH increase between clay minerals and brine are investigated to get a betterunderstanding on the complexity of role of clay in LSF. The results of coreflooding experiments usingunconsolidated core sample show that the incremental oil recovery of kaolinite is higher than that of illiteat the same clay content. Kaolinite and illite have a positive effect on MIE, EDL expansion, and local pHincrease. The incremental oil recovery was proportional to the local pH increase in both core samples. Especially, more MIE and EDL expansion occur in kaolinite core samples. Therefore, the wettability isfurther changed to the water-wet condition in kaolinite sample. The results of correlation coefficientanalysis show the kaolinite content has a strong correlation with MIE, EDL expansion, local pH increase,and oil recovery. On the other hand, the correlations between oil recovery and chemical reactions in illitesamples are relatively low compared to the kaolinite samples excepting local pH increase. Therefore, thesandstone reservoir containing kaolinite is more suitable for the LSF.

Microtubule plus-end tracking proteins (+TIPs), a structurally and functionally diverse group of proteins, are specifically accumulated in the microtubule plus end and regulate dynamic microtubule behavior. We characterized the +TIPs, Clip1, p150<SUP>glued</SUP>, Clasp1, Lis1 and Stim1, in <I>Xenopus laevis</I> and report their expression patterns during embryogenesis in this paper. All the five +TIP genes are maternally expressed and have similar expression patterns during <I>Xenopus</I> embryo development. The expression of +TIPs is localized in the animal hemisphere and ectoderm region at early stages of embryonic development. As development progresses to later stages, the ectodermal expression of +TIPs persists in head and neural tube structures. Clasp1, p150<SUP>glued</SUP> and Lis1 in particular are specifically expressed in the cranial nerves. Importantly, +TIPs are also expressed in the involuting mesoderm during gastrulation. This is the first study of developmental expression patterns of +TIPs, and our analysis provides insight that could serve as the basis for future research of microtubules in vertebrate development, cell movements during gastrulation and neurogenesis.</P>
Genetic Diversity and Relationship in Korean Ginseng (Panax schinseng) Based on RAPD Analysis

We investigate genetic diversity among and within the populations of cultivated Korean ginseng (Panx schinseng Nees), using RAPD (randomly amplified polymorphic DNA) profiles. A total of 39 ginseng plants were sampled from the five populations (one from China, the rest from Korea). Since all these populations are previously shown closely related to each other as sister groups, we used Panax quinquefolius as a reference species, which is not "within the sister group". All individuals from the five populations were screened with a total of 111 random decamers and with 26 primers generated from 75 RARD bands of DNA gels. UPGMA dendrogram revealed that Geumsan (KS) population from Korea and Mt. Jangbaik (northeastern China) were clustered by region, whereas the others Korean populations cannot be grouped into one clade. These results are supported by the maximum parsimony analysis. AMOVA analysis of RAPD data was shown higher genetic variances within total five populations (Φst = 0.31, P<0.001) than among the populations of the two regions (Φsc = 0.12, P<0.001), or between Korea and northeastern China regions (Φct = 0.21, P<0.001). The cultivated Korean ginseng populations (SS;6.20 - 10.33) except the Geumsan (SS; 1.97) have a higher genetic diversity than the northeastern population of China (SS; 2.59). However, none of the four Korean populations have their own characteristic genetic markers which could be used for identification.

<P>Polyploidy plays an important role in the speciation of Iso?tes. Increasing our knowledge about the specific origin of each polyploid or phylogenetic relationship among species has been hampered because of conserved morphological variation and scarce habitats. We present several hypotheses concerning the speciation pathways of Iso?tes species distributed in East Asia. Our hypotheses are inferred from phylogenetic relationships that were elucidated using sequences of the internal transcribed spacer regions of nuclear ribosomal DNA, a second intron of LEAFY, and chloroplast DNA trnS-psbC spacer regions. These inferred phylogenetic relationships indicated that (1) the Chinese tetraploid, I. sinensis, is closely related to I. yunguiensis; (2) the Korean endemic species, I. hallasanensis, is an autotetraploid derived from I. taiwanensis or closely related taxa; (3) the hexaploid I. coreana forms a clade and has its closest evolutionary relationships with I. taiwanensis or I. hallasanensis; and (4) the Japanese hexaploid I. japonica is closely related to I. taiwanensis-I. coreana and I. sinensis-I. yunguiensis. These results suggest that interspecific hybridization and polyploidization have played central roles in speciation of East Asian Iso?tes. Furthermore, I. taiwanensis, an endemic species in Taiwan, has been involved in at least three cases of autopolyploid or allopolyploid speciation in East Asia.</P>
Distribution of Typha laxmanni Lepechin(Typhaceae) in Korea

A previously unrecorded Typha species has been found in Korea. Its morphology is characterized by short plant height (1.0±0.2m), narrow leaves (3.2±0.9㎜), short pistillate inflorescences (4.7±1.4㎝), and a high ratio of staminate inflorescence length to pistillate inflorescence length (2.2±0.4). Because these characters are identical to the original description of Typha laxmanni Lepechin, we can now report its distribution in Korea.
Differential Side Channel Analysis Attacks on FPGA Implementations of ARIA

In this paper, we first investigate the side channel analysis attack resistance of various FPGA hardware implementations of the ARIA block cipher. The analysis is performed on an FPGA test board dedicated to side channel attacks. Our results show that an unprotected implementation of ARIA allows one to recover the secret key with a low number of power or electromagnetic measurements. We also present a masking countermeasure and analyze its second-order side channel resistance by using various suitable preprocessing functions. Our experimental results clearly confirm that second-order differential side channel analysis attacks also remain a practical threat for masked hardware implementations of ARIA.
