Objeetives : There have been no consistent reliable and valid tool for examining the psychosocial problems for the patients with mental disorders in Korea. The purpose of the present study is to develop a scale that examine the psychosocial problems for the patients with mental disorders and to test its reliability and validity. Methods : To identify the psychosocial problems for 1,100 patients with mental disorders were selected in university hospitals and professional training institutes. And the items of the psychosocial problems were taken from them and divided them into individual and environmental categories. The representative items were established among these items of psychosocial problems and a questionnaire for a pilot study was made based on the representative items. The pilot study was done for 306 patients with mental disorders using the questionnaire to investigate reliability of the questionnaire. After the pilot study items and format of the questionnaire were revised and complemented. The revised questionnaire was given to 600 patients with mental disorders to test its validity and reliability and new scale for psychosocial problems was developed. Results : At the pilot study, which was performed with 1,100 patients, 3,200 items of psychosocial problems of 205 types were selected. Among these items 78 representative psychosocial problems items were withdrawn. Fifty-eight psychosocial problem items were finally set for the questionnaire after discussing them with the expert groups and examining its content reliability. Forty-seven psychosocial problems items were finally selected and given to 306 subjects at the pilot study. At the main study in which 600 subjects were tested inner-reliability. Correlation between items and scale was relevant and correlation coefficient between test and retest was high. The finally developed psychosocial problems testing scales were consisted of 46 testing items into 9 areas. Conclusion : The Psychosocial Problems Assessment Scale, which were developed at this study is proved to be valid and reliable and it will be able to be used to examine overall psychosocial problems for the patients with mental disorders in Korea.

<P>This study investigated the changes in the major etiologic organisms and clinical phenotypes of nontuberculous mycobacterial lung disease (NTM-LD) over a recent 15-year period in Korea. The increase of number of patients with NTM-LD was primarily due to an increase of <I>Mycobacterium avium</I> complex (MAC) lung disease (LD). Among MAC cases, the proportion of <I>M. avium</I> increased compared with <I>M. intracellulare</I>, whereas the incidence of <I>M. abscessus</I> complex and <I>M. kansasii</I> LD remained relatively stable. The proportion of cases of the nodular bronchiectatic form increased compared with the fibrocavitary form of NTM-LD.</P>

<P>IL-32 acts as a pro-inflammatory cytokine by inducing the synthesis of inflammatory molecules as well as promoting the morphological changes involved in the transformation of monocytes into osteoclasts (OCs). Evaluation of the functions of IL-32 has mainly focused on its inflammatory properties, such as involvement in the pathogenesis of various autoimmune diseases. Recently, IL-32 was shown to be involved in bone metabolism, in which it promotes the differentiation and activation of OCs and plays a key role in bone resorption in inflammatory conditions. IL-32γ also regulates bone formation in conditions such as ankylosing spondylitis and osteoporosis. In this review, we summarize the results of recent studies on the role of IL-32γ in bone metabolism in inflammatory arthritis.</P>

To understand the mechanisms involved in the anti-obesity effects Centella asiatica (CA), we examined body weight, serum levels, white adipose tissue (WAT) weight, histological analysis, and the expression of cholesterol homeostasis- and lipid metabolism-related genes in mice with high-fat, high-sugar diet (HFHSD)-induced obesity that were orally treated with CA for 12 weeks. Eight-week-old, male C57BL/6J mice were assigned to the following four groups (8 mice/group): NOR, normal diet; HFHSD (Control), HFHSD; CA-L, HFHSD + CA 300 mg/kg; CA-H, HFHSD+CA 600 mg/kg. The suspension of powdered CA leaf was fed using oral gavage. CA treatment significantly attenuated HFHSD-induced increase in body weight gain, serum glucose, triacylglycerol, and WAT weight (p < 0.05). Compared to that in HFHSD, adipocyte diameter and macrovesicular area of epididymal WAT significantly decreased with CA treatment (p < 0.05). The mRNA expression levels of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPARγ), fatty acid synthase (FAS), cluster of differentiation 36 (CD36), 3- hydroxyl-3-methylglutaryl CoA reductase (HMGCR), and stearoyl CoA desaturase 1 (SCD 1) were significantly downregulated in the CA-H compared to the HFHSD (p < 0.05). CA exerts anti-obesity effects by lowering body fat accumulation via regulating gene expression and thus, is a potential lipid-lowering agent.

<P>A new phosphoenolpyruvate carboxylase (PEPC) gene of Dunaliella salina is identified using homology analysis was conducted using PEPC gene of Chlamydomonas reinhardtii and Arabidopsis thaliana. Recombinant E. coli SGJS115 with increased production of malate and oxaloacetate was developed by introducing codon-optimized phosphoenolpyruvate carboxylase2 (OPDSPEPC2) gene of Dunaliella salina. E. coli SGJS115 yielded a 9.9 % increase in malate production. In addition, E. coli SGJS115 exhibited two times increase in the yield of oxaloacetate over the E. coli SGJS114 having identified PEPC2 gene obtained from Dunaliella salina.</P>

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify effects of self-evaluation using smartphone recording on competency in nursing skills, satisfaction and learning motivations in nursing students’. The setting was the open laboratory hours. Methods: A quasi-experimental pre/post-test design was conducted in September 2015. The participants were 82 sophomore nursing students from one University. The experimental group did self-evaluation by watching recorded video clips of their performance. The control group did not have any self-evaluation. The primary outcomes were scores from the foley catheterization checklist, scores from a student satisfaction tool, and scores from a learning motivation tool. Data were analyzed using x<SUP>2</SUP> test, Fisher’s exact test, independent t-test, and paired t-test. Results: There was a significant higher mean score in levels of satisfaction by students in the experimental group compared to the control group (t=2.26, p=.027). In addition, improvement in communication skills by the experimental group was significantly higher than improvement in the control group (t=3.96, p<.001). Conclusion: Findings show that self-evaluation using smartphone recordings has positive effects on increasing both communication skills and satisfaction with practice during open laboratory hours. These results indicate that, self-evaluation using smartphone recording is useful as a supplement to traditional open laboratory education.
