The average indoor concentration of the library's TSP was 0.03 ng/m³. TAB in library and lounge in college of engineering showed higher concentrations in corridors than indoors. The correlation coefficient between TAB and humidity is 0.985, so it is judged that there is a significant need for humidity control in indoor air quality management to reduce the concentration of total suspended bacteria(p<0.01).

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Functionalized polymer filter (FPF) was fabricated using a synthesized terpolymer containing a quaternary ammonium moiety via electrospinning method to enhance the durability of air filters. Removal efficiency and durability of FPF were exhibited compared with those of polystyrene (PS) filter and a commercial electret filter. FPF showed the best performance than others, and the removal efficiencies were 89.5, 98.6, and 99.8% when the sodium chloride aerosol were sized in 100, 200, and 300 nm, respectively. In addition, FPF had almost no decrease in the removal efficiency after the treatment by isopropyl alcohol (IPA). On the other hand, the IPA-treated PS and electret filter showed the rapid decrease around 20–40% for the sodium chloride aerosol. The performance of FPF was also kept even after the water treatment. Furthermore, FPF also showed good antibacterial activity, a desirable characteristic for using the air filter without infections.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Functionalized polymer filter was fabricated for removal of ultrafine aerosol. </LI> <LI> Hydrophilicity and high dipole moment from the quaternary ammonium moiety were helpful to capture the MPPS. </LI> <LI> Durability of the filter was improved owing to the inherent characteristics of the functionalized terpolymer. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>

<P>A magnetically-separable and highly-stable enzyme system was developed by adsorption of enzymes in superparamagnetic hierarchically ordered mesocellular mesoporous silica (M-HMMS) and subsequent enzyme crosslinking. Superparamagnetic nanoparticles were homogeneously incorporated into hierarchically-ordered mesocellular mesoporous silica (HMMS) by the decomposition of a preformed iron propionate complex. The size of the incorporated superparamagnetic nanoparticles was around 5 nm, generating a magnetically separable host with high pore volumes and large pores (M-HMMS). α-chymotrypsin (CT) was adsorbed into M-HMMS with high loading (∼30 wt%) in less than 30 minutes. Glutaraldehyde (GA) treatment of adsorbed CT resulted in nanometer scale crosslinked enzyme aggregates in M-HMMS (CLEA-M). The activity of these CT aggregates in M-HMMS (CLEA-M-CT) was 34 times than that of simply adsorbed CT in M-HMMS, due to an effective prevention of enzyme leaching during washing <I>via</I> a ship-in-a-bottle approach. CLEA-M-CT maintained the initial activity not only under shaking (250 rpm) for 30 days, but also under recycled uses of 35 times. Ventriculoperitoneal shunting is the most common neurosurgical procedure for treatment of hydrocephalus. Shunt-related complications are relatively common and associated with a high rate of shunt revision. However, migration of the distal ventriculoperitoneal shunt, especially into the cardiac and intravascular regions, has rarely been reported. Awareness of this rare but potentially hazardous complication is important owing to its significant morbidity, which can be prevented by prompt management. Here, we introduce a case of a 23-year-old male with migration of the distal shunt catheter through the left internal jugular vein into the cardiac chamber and both pulmonary arteries, which occurred 2 months after receiving ventriculoperitoneal shunting. Furthermore, we discuss the possible mechanisms and management of this condition.

The mechanistic functions of 3-deoxysappanchalcone (3-DSC), a chalcone compound known to have many pharmacological effects on lung cancer, have not yet been elucidated. In this study, we identified the comprehensive anti-cancer mechanism of 3-DSC, which targets EGFR and MET kinase in drug-resistant lung cancer cells. 3-DSC directly targets both EGFR and MET, thereby inhibiting the growth of drug-resistant lung cancer cells. Mechanistically, 3-DSC induced cell cycle arrest by modulating cell cycle regulatory proteins, including cyclin B1, cdc2, and p27. In addition, concomitant EGFR downstream signaling proteins such as MET, AKT, and ERK were affected by 3-DSC and contributed to the inhibition of cancer cell growth. Furthermore, our results show that 3-DSC increased redox homeostasis disruption, ER stress, mitochondrial depolarization, and caspase activation in gefitinib-resistant lung cancer cells, thereby abrogating cancer cell growth. 3-DSC induced apoptotic cell death which is regulated by Mcl-1, Bax, Apaf-1, and PARP in gefitinib-resistant lung cancer cells. 3-DSC also initiated the activation of caspases, and the pan-caspase inhibitor, Z-VAD-FMK, abrogated 3-DSC induced-apoptosis in lung cancer cells. These data imply that 3-DSC mainly increased mitochondria-associated intrinsic apoptosis in lung cancer cells to reduce lung cancer cell growth. Overall, 3-DSC inhibited the growth of drug-resistant lung cancer cells by simultaneously targeting EGFR and MET, which exerted anti-cancer effects through cell cycle arrest, mitochondrial homeostasis collapse, and increased ROS generation, eventually triggering anticancer mechanisms. 3-DSC could potentially be used as an effective anti-cancer strategy to overcome EGFR and MET target drug-resistant lung cancer.

Currently, education facilities are changing from a space for learning to an environment that offers various functions and pleasant environment. In response to these changes, educational facilities strive to improve the environmental performance of the space. Among them, improvement of the light environment performance by using natural light not only affects visual comfort of students and learning efficiency but also building energy consumption. However, It do not have a systematic plan for natural lighting, but rather cause irregularity of illumination and glare. It leads to visual discomfort or deterioration of learning efficiency. In order to grasp the current state of the light environment, we conduct survey, analysis and evaluation of actual illumination using survey and illuminator for users and identify problems.
