Los detectives salvajes de Roberto Bolaño : Entre las vanguardias y el posmodernismo

Carolina Galvis Echeverry(카롤리나 갈비스 에체베리) 한국라틴아메리카학회 2010 라틴아메리카연구 Vol.23 No.1

The present work assumes the existence of posmodernist elements in the Bolano’s novel Los detectives salvajes. However, it does not intend to defend the postmodernism as a “label” for a phenomena in literature. It is taken, in fact, because there is no other theory, or other name to define those specific elements in a better way. Likewise, they are taken as a result of some vanguard resources’ changes. An ancient fact is mixed with a new fact where the result is a new creation. The fictional resources analyzed in the novel are based on two sources. The first one comes from Calinescu and Hassan’s theories that permits to talk about a posmodernist writing. The second one is led, mainly, by “simulation” theory of Baudrillard. On the other hand, there is a comparison between the fictional resources of estridentismo and infrarrealismo (Mexican avant-guard) and those that are used in the Bolano’s novel. This comparison permits to analyze posmodernist characteristics as tale’s indecibility, madness as a way of creation, human multiplicity and a critical metalanguage, among others. Finally, some elements as indecibility, multiplicity and simulation are analized through the specific comparison between Los detectives salvajes and the narrative work of the writer Arqueles Vela (estridentist author). This exercise shows a clear change since vanguard to postmodernism with regard to the same elements.
