      • Using the Bible as a Source for Educational Methodology and Curriculum Enhancement

        ( Coetzee Elainie ) 글로벌기독교세계관학회 2011 학문과기독교세계관 Vol.3 No.-

This article looks very briefly at the concept of education, research-based teaching methods and how Jesus used these ``modern`` methods to teach people. It also addresses the issue of integrating faith into the curriculum by using Biblical principles and teachings relevant to the subject-matter being taught. It concludes by stating that teachers can use modern teaching methods because they were used effectively by Jesus and that existing curricula can be enhanced by using and applying Biblical principles to subject-matter.

Results of an evaluation of augmented reality mobile development frameworks for addresses in augmented reality

        Victoria Rautenbach,Serena Coetzee,Danie Jooste 대한공간정보학회 2016 Spatial Information Research Vol.24 No.3

Addresses displayed on dwellings and buildings play a key role in society. Amongst others, they are used for deliveries, in household surveys, to navigate, or to find friends. Sometimes, address signs are destroyed, displaced or illegible, for example, as a result of vandalism, disasters, or poor maintenance. In augmented reality, computer-gen- erated information is superimposed onto a live view of the real world. When address signs are not available, displaying the address in augmented reality could be immensely useful. The research presented in this article is part of a larger research endeavour to investigate augmented reality for addressing. This article presents the results of an evaluation of augmented reality mobile development frameworks for the implementation of a mobile application that displays addresses in augmented reality. Firstly, the requirements for addresses in augmented reality were identified. Three use cases informed these requirements: disaster relief, e.g. address signs are destroyed by an earthquake; household surveys, e.g. locating dwellings in informal settlements or rural areas where addresses are not assigned in any specific sequence and signs do not exist; and address data quality management, e.g. validating digital address data against addresses displayed in the physical world. Due to procurement challenges in the use cases, open source licensing and integration with open source products was identified as an important requirement. The internet was searched and a list of augmented reality mobile develop- ment frameworks was compiled. Based on the requirements, the list was shortened to seven frameworks, which were evaluated against a set of criteria informed by the require- ments. The evaluation results can guide developers in choosing a framework best suitable for their specific needs and/or for integration with open source products.

Ellagic acid inhibits RANKL-induced osteoclast differentiation by suppressing the p38 MAP kinase pathway

        Mpho Rantlha,Travers Sagar,Marlena C. Kruger,Magdalena Coetzee,Vishwa Deepak 대한약학회 2017 Archives of Pharmacal Research Vol.40 No.1

Bone undergoes continuous remodeling by acoupled action between osteoblasts and osteoclasts. Duringosteoporosis, osteoclast activity is often elevatedleading to increased bone destruction. Hence, osteoclastsare deemed as potential therapeutic targets to alleviatebone loss. Ellagic acid (EA) is a polyphenol reported topossess anticancer, antioxidant and anti-inflammatoryproperties. However, its effects on osteoclast formationand function have not yet been examined. Here, weexplored the effects of EA on RANKL-induced osteoclastdifferentiation in RAW264.7 murine macrophages(in vitro) and human CD14?monocytes (ex vivo). EAdose-dependently attenuated RANKL-induced TRAP?osteoclast formation in osteoclast progenitors with maximalinhibition seen at 1 lM concentration without cytotoxicity. Moreover, owing to perturbed osteoclastogenesis,EA disrupted actin ring formation and bone resorptivefunction of osteoclasts. Analysis of the underlyingmolecular mechanisms revealed that EA suppressed thephosphorylation and activation of the p38 MAP kinasepathway which subsequently impaired the RANKL-induceddifferentiation of osteoclast progenitors. Takentogether, these novel results indicate that EA alleviatesosteoclastogenesis by suppressing the p38 signaling pathwaydownstream of RANKL and exerts inhibitory effectson bone resorption and actin ring formation.
