(Ba1-xCax)(Ti1-yZry)O3 powder synthesis via hydrothermal treatment

(Ba1-xCax)(Ti1-yZry)O3 (BCTZ) powders for the Ni-electrode multilayer ceramic capacitor (MLCC) were synthesized via hydrothermal treatment using mixed aqueous solutions of BaCl22H2O, Ca(NO3)24H2O, ZrOCl28H2O and TiCl4. Two component and three component systems were also extensively studied for basic data. BT, CT and BZ powders were crystalline but CZ was determined to be amorphous under the same synthetic condition. In BTZ system, Zr and Ti were completely soluble and Ca would be substituted for Ba up to ∼ 6 mol% in BCZ. The submicron-sized (Ba0.95Ca0.05)(Ti0.80Zr0.20)O3 powder of the target composition was successfully synthesized at 150℃ for 12 hours.
Role of Ca2+ in diallyl disulfide-induced apoptotic cell death of HCT-15 cells

Diallyl disulfide (DADS) induced apoptosis throughthe caspase-3 dependent pathway in leukemia cellswas earlier reported from this laboratory. In thisstudy, we investigated the involvement of Ca2+ inDADS-induced apoptotic cell death of HCT-15,human colon cancer cell line. DADS induced the ele-vation of cytosolic Ca2+ by biphasic patern; rapidCa2+ peak at 3 min and following slow and sustainedelevation till 3 h after the addition of DADS. Produc-tion of H2O2 was also observed with its peak value at4 h. Apoptotic pathways including the sequence ofcaspase-3 activation, poly(ADP-ribose) polymerasecleavage, and DNA fragmentation by DADS werecompletely blocked by various inhibitors such asspecific caspase-3 inhibitor, free radical scavenger,and intracellular Ca2+ chelator. N-acetylcystein andcatalase treatment prevented the accumulation ofH2O2 and later caspase-3 dependent apoptotic path-way. However, these radical scavengers did notblock the elevation of intracellular Ca2+. Treatment of cells with 1,2-bis(2-aminophenoxy-ethane)-N,N,N-tetraacetic acid tetrakis -acetoxymethylester (BAPTA-AM), cellular Ca2+ chelator, resulted in acomplete blockage of the caspase-3 dependent apop-totic pathway of HCT-15 cells. It abolished the elevationof intracellular Ca2+, and furthermore, completely inhib-ited the production of H 2O2. These results indicate thatcytosolic Ca2+ elevation is an earlier signaling event inapoptosis of HCT-15 cells. Collectively, our data dem-onstrate that DADS can induce apoptosis in HCT-15cells through the sequential mechanism of Ca2+homeostasis disruption, accumulation of H 2O2, andresulting caspase-3 activation.

This study was conducted to investigate the insecticidal capacity of several recombinant baculoviruses to P. xylostella and S. exigua larvae. NeuroBactrus was constructed as follows: the cry1-5 of Bacillus thuringiensis 2385-1 was inserted into Autographa californica multicapsid nucleopolyhedrovirus (AcMNPV) genome by fusion of polyhedrin-cry1-5-polyhedrin under the control of polyhedrin gene promoter, and insect-specific neurotoxin from the scorpion Androctonus australis (AaIT) under the control of early promoter from Cotesia plutellae bracovirus was introduced by fusion of orf603 partial fragment in the opposite direction of polyhedrin gene, respectively. Other recombinant baculoviruses derived from the NeuroBactrus - NBt-DelA (deleted AaIT), NBt-Del5 (deleted cry1-5), and NBt-DelA5 (deleted AaIT and cry 1-5) - were manufactured in serial passages in vitro. The data were analyzed by SPSS. The value of LC50 was lower when P. xylostella larvae fed on cabbage coated with NeuroBactrus (4068.4) than when it fed on cabbage coated with AcMNPV (4.5x106). Survival time (ST50) of P. xylostella larvae (2.54days) was shorter when it fed on cabbage coated with NeuroBactrus than when it fed on cabbage coated with other recombinant baculoviruses (7.54days, 7.68days, and 8.26days) and AcMNPV (9.67days). S. exigua larvae presented the same results.
