In the present study, the operating conditions and performance characteristics of an air-cooled ammonia-water GAX absorption heat pump cycle were analysed. For the cooilng and heating modes, the effects of ambient air temperature on the coefficient of performance and cooling and heating capacity were studied. As the ambient air temperature increased, cooling COP and cooling capacity were decreased. However heating COP and heating capacity increased with the ambient air temperature. The role of GAX for the utilization of internal thermal energy was found out to be especially important for heating mode during winter.

Falling film rectification involves simultaneous heat and mass transfer in the vapor-liquid system. In the present work, the rectification process of ammonia-water vapor on the horizontal tube was investigated. The continuity, momentum, energy and diffusion equations for the solution film and vapor mixture were formulated in integral forms and solved numerically. The model could predict the film thickness, the pressure gradient, and the heat and mass transfer rate. The effects of film Reynolds number, cooling ability, ammonia concentration in solution on the interfacial momentum, heat, and mass transfer rate of rectification processes were investigated. The characteristics of the rectification process were found to be governed by the relative significance of the transport resistance and the driving forces between the solution film and the vapor mixture.

In this study, new moment-resisting precast concrete beam-column joint is proposed for moderate seismic regions. It has the connection reinforcing bars, penetrated the joint and lap-spliced with the bottom bars of precast U-beam. An experimental study was carried out to investigate the joint behavior subjected to reverse cyclic loading and constant axial compressive load. Three precast beam-column interior were tested. The variables examined were the type of connection reinforcing bars and presence of transverse reinforcement in joint. Joint performance is evaluated on the basis of connection .strength, stiffness, energy dissipation, and drift capacity. Based on the test results, the precast connection is capable of matching or exceeding the performance of the monolithic connection and thereby provides the sufficient moment-resisting behavior to be applicable for moderate seismic regions.

Microstructure of hypereutectic Al-17wt.% Si alloy, fabricated by mechanical stirring and by reheating at semi-solid state, was investigated by optical microscope. Flow behavior semi-solid metal also was investigated at diffentent mould temperatures 280℃, 290℃ and 300℃ . Size of silicon particles were increased over 100㎛ durig solidification as a result of stirring. It is considered as microstructural coarsening by bonding between neighbouring primary silicon particles during stirring of slurry. In case of reheating at semi-state, however, primary silicon particle was not increased at size of 40㎛ and nearly spherical aluminum solde particle also was improved when solid fraction was 0.7 at mould temperature of 300℃ than other conditions.

In this study, microstructure, size of primary α, solid fraction and hardness of A356 Al alloy were investigated. Semi-solid A356 alloys were obtained by semi-solid continuous casting apparatus consists of melting furnace, formation apparatus of granular primary α and continuous casting apparatus. Size of primary α and solid fraction were decreased with decreasing temperature, and with increasing volume of cooling water. At the cooling water temperature of 15℃ and cooling water volume of 18.2ℓ/min, the sizes of primary α phases were decreased up to 40㎛, and fraction solid was 0.68.

We evaluated the efficacy of the liquid form of enrofloxacin against poultry respiratory and digestive infections, the major problems in the poultry industry, from diverse diagnosis viewpoints. Results obtained through this study were as follows: 1. The liquid form of enrofloxacin showed good acceptability to poultry owing to no abhorrence to the drug by chickens, which indicated its suitability for mixing in drinking water. 2. The application of the enrofloxacin formulation improved the productivity of the chicken farm to a great extent by lowering the death toll of chicken raised in the farm. 3. The use of the drug shortened the days to the market, and increased the body weight at the time of marketing. 4. Preventive and therapeutic effects of the liquid enrofloxacin were observed higher than ampicillin, a major antibiotic used in poultry farming. From above results, the liquid form of enrofloxacin would find its use for the prevention and treatment of digestive and respiratory infections, let alone the growth promotion and feed efficiency, especially in the chicken farming practice.

Coulomb’s theory has been usually used in practice for design of retaining walls. This theory assumed that the lateral earth pressure was a triangular distribution, because the point of applying the thrust could not be abtained straightforward. However, the results of laboratory and filed tests proved that the lateral earth pressure was not a triangular distribution. In this study, for gravity walls with inclined backface, backfilled by c - ø soils with inclined surface, an analytical method for earth pressure has been derived. This method applied the flat arching concept and the Coulomb’s wedge, under drained condition, for the cases of considering tension crack. In addition, this paper is dealt with comparing the new analytical solution with existed theories for some cases.

<P>The C‐type lectin‐like domain of CLEC14a (CLEC14a‐C‐type lectin‐like domain [CTLD]) is a key domain that mediates endothelial cell–cell contacts in angiogenesis. However, the role of CLEC14a‐CTLD in pathological angiogenesis has not yet been clearly elucidated. In this study, through complementarity‐determining region grafting, consecutive deglycosylation, and functional isolation, we generated a novel anti‐angiogenic human monoclonal antibody that specifically targets CLEC14a‐CTLD and that shows improved stability and homogeneity relative to the parental antibody. We found that this antibody directly inhibits CLEC14a‐CTLD‐mediated endothelial cell–cell contact and simultaneously downregulates expression of CLEC14a on the surface of endothelial cells. Using various <I>in vitro</I> and <I>in vivo</I> functional assays, we demonstrated that this antibody effectively suppresses vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF)‐dependent angiogenesis and tumor angiogenesis of SNU182 human hepatocellular carcinoma, CFPAC‐1 human pancreatic cancer, and U87 human glioma cells. Furthermore, we also found that this antibody significantly inhibits tumor angiogenesis of HCT116 and bevacizumab‐adapted HCT116 human colorectal cancer cells. These findings suggest that antibody targeting of CLEC14a‐CTLD has the potential to suppress VEGF‐dependent angiogenesis and tumor angiogenesis and that CLEC14a‐CTLD may be a novel anti‐angiogenic target for VEGF‐dependent angiogenesis and tumor angiogenesis.</P>

A novel, blue light-emitting polymer, poly(phenyl-9,9-dioctyl-9',9'dihexanenitrile)fluorene (PPFC6N), containing an alkyl and cyano group in the side chain, was synthesized by Suzuki polymerization and characterized. The polymer structure was confirmed by $^1H-NMR$. The number average molecular weight and the weight average molecular weight of the obtained polymer were 9,725 and 9,943 respectively. The resulting polymer was thermally stable with a glass transition temperature ($T_g$) of $93^{\circ}C$, and was easily soluble in common organic solvents such as THF, toluene, chlorobenzene and chloroform. The HOMO and LUMO energy levels of the polymer were revealed as 5.8 and 2.88 eV by cyclic voltammetry study, respectively. The ITO/PEDOT:PSS (40 nm)/PPFC6N (80 m)/LiF (1 nm)/Al (150 nm) device fabricated from the polymer emitted a PL spectrum at 450 nm and showed a real blue emission for pure PPFC6N in the EL spectrum. When t-butyl PBD was introduced as a hole blocking layer, the device performance was largely improved and the EL spectrum was slightly shifted toward deep blue. The device with PPFC6N containing t-butyl PBD layer showed the maximum luminance of 3,200 $cd/m^2$ at 9.5 V with a turnon voltage of 7 V.
