The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effects of anodized implants coated with Escherichia coli-derived recombinant human bone morphogenetic protein-2 (ErhBMP-2) on osseointegration using stability tests and histometric analysis. Nine adult New Zealand white rabbits (4.5-5 kg) were used in the study. Thirty-six implants (L, 5.0 mm; D, 4.0 mm) were divided into 2 groups: anodized implants (control group) and ErhBMP- 2(1.5 mg/ml concentration, 18 μg: Cowellmedi Co, Busan, Korea) coated anodized implant (experimental group). In each rabbit, 4 implants were placed in the tibia on both sides. The control and experimental implants were randomly placed in either left or right tibia. The rabbits were sacrificed at the end of the healing period (2, 4 and 12 weeks after operation). The stability of implants was evaluated by resonance frequency analysis. To obtain histometric results, bone to implant contact (BIC) and intra-thread bone density (ITBD) were measured with a light microscope. The ISQ value was significantly greater in the experimental group than in the control group at 12 weeks (P<0.05). ITBD increased over time in the experimental group (P<0.05). Post hoc comparison test analysis showed that a statistically significant change could be found between 2 and 4 weeks in the interaction between the ITBD change by time lapse and an ErhBMP-2 application condition (P=0.033). In this study, a greater degree of ossointegration was observed in the experimental group. ErhBMP-2 coated anodized implants could be used particularly in cases where bone quality is poor or bone volume is insufficient.

인터넷상에서 문서를 배포하는 데는 기본적으로 HTML의 풀 방식을 사용하여, 간혹 푸시 기술을 이용한 시스템을 이용하기도 한다. 그러나, 이들은 각각 문서의 실시간 변경이라든가 대역폭과 부가 정보에 의한 서버측의 부담 등의 문제를 가지고 있기 때문에 우리는 푸시와 풀 방법을 합쳐 푸시에 의한 부담을 최소한으로 줄이고 문서의 실시간 갱신도 가능하도록 변경 메시지를 이용하였다. 이 변경메시지는 실제 데이터가 아닌 데이터의 변경 정보를 가지고 서버와 연결된 모든 클라이언트에 전달되며 이후 클라이언트에서는 자신이 필요한 경우에만 서버에 데이터를 요청하게 된다. 이러한 구조는 데이터가 변경 되었다는 메시지가 실제 데이터보다 작고, 모든 클라이언트에 데이터를 보내기에 부담이 될 정도로 서버에 연결된 클라이언트가 많은 경우 이전의 다른 시스템들 보다 유용하다.
Reduced Number of Endothelial Progenitor Colony-Forming Units in Patients with Preeclampsia

Purpose: Endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs), which mediates neovascularization of uterine endometrium may be involved in the neovascularization in the utero-placental circulation. Low numbers of endothelial progenitor colony-forming unit (CFU) in culture are predictive biomarker of vascular disease. The aim of the present study was to evaluate whether the number of CFU in preeclampsia differed from that in normal pregnancy. Materials and Methods: Women with singleton normal (n=26) or preeclamptic (n=20) pregnancies were studied during the third trimester. The number of EPCs was quantified by CFU methodology. Plasma levels of angiogenic factors, vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), soluble fms-like tyrosine kinase-1 (sFlt-1), and placental growth factor (PlGF) were determined by enzyme-linked immunoassay. Results: CFU numbers were significantly decreased in the preeclamptic patients compared with the controls (median, 3; range 1-12 vs. 31; 3-81 CFU/well, P<0.001). A majority of the cells comprising individual colonies were positive for endothelial characteristics (Ulex europaeus lectin staining and acetylated low-density lipoprotein uptake). Plasma levels of the sFlt-1 were highly elevated (P<0.001) in patient with preeclampsia compared to controls, whereas PlGF were highly reduced (P=0.004), but these factors did not associate with CFU numbers. <P>For diagnosis and management of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), the easily administered assessment tool is essential. Structured Interview for PTSD (SIP) is a validated, 17-item, simple measurement being used widely. We aimed to develop the Korean version of SIP (K-SIP) and investigated its psychometric properties. Ninety-three subjects with PTSD, 73 subjects with mood disorder or anxiety disorder as a psychiatric control group, and 88 subjects as a healthy control group were enrolled in this study. All subjects completed psychometric assessments that included the K-SIP, the Korean versions of the Clinician-Administered PTSD Scale (CAPS) and other assessment tools. The K-SIP presented good internal consistency (Cronbach's α=0.92) and test-retest reliability (r=0.87). K-SIP showed strong correlations with CAPS (r=0.72). Among three groups including PTSD patients, psychiatric controls, and normal controls, there were significant differences in the K-SIP total score. The potential cut-off total score of K-SIP was 20 with highest diagnostic efficiency (91.9%). At this point, the sensitivity and specificity were 95.5% and 88.4%, respectively. Our result showed that K-SIP had good reliability and validity. We expect that K-SIP will be used as a simple but structured instrument for assessment of PTSD.</P>

<P>The growth behaviour and microstructure of epitaxially grown self-assembled Ge quantum dots on patterned SiO<SUB>2</SUB>/Si(001) substrates by molecular beam epitaxy were studied. The hexagonally ordered Si holes with 30 nm thick SiO<SUB>2</SUB> mask layer having ∼25 nm diameter, ∼40 nm center-to-center distance, and density of ∼7 × 10<SUP>10</SUP> cm<SUP>–2</SUP>, were formed using self-assembled diblock copolymer, composed of polystyrene and poly(methyl methacrylate) (PS-b -PMMA). The multiple Ge nuclei are selectively formed along the periphery of the individual Si holes and these nuclei subsequently coalesce forming single dot with an identical size of patterns. The strain of dots is relaxed up to 80%. The lattice planes of some Ge dots are found to be tilted from those of Si substrates. The Ge dots have dislocations at the interface with Si substrate even at the small size of ∼25 nm, resulting from the limited elastic relaxation in the confined patterned structure. Metal concentrations of Chinese herbal medicine products in the United States

We determined arsenic, lead, mercury and cadmium concentrations in Chinese herbal medicines sold in the United States by medical use parts. 54 kinds of herbal products including 9 medical use parts (radix, rhizoma, cortex, pericarpium, fructus, lignum, semen, folium, and herba) were analyzed using inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry for arsenic, lead and cadmium, and using mercury analyzer for mercury. Arsenic (median concentration, 0.25 mg/g), mercury (0.20 mg/g), lead (3.78 mg/g) and cadmium (0.39 mg/g) were detected in 71%, 54%, 35%, and 18% of 143 herbal medicine samples, respectively. A total of 27% and 12% of 143 products analyzed contained mercury and cadmium above the regulatory standards. Herba and folium (leaves of herbal plants) were the most contaminated parts from metals, whereas pericarpium, lignum and semen (outer layers and seeds) were less contaminated. This study suggests that metal contamination is different by medical use parts. Our findings provide further evidence that efforts to protect people using traditional remedies from metal intoxication should be made to enforce the regulatory standards.
