      • Amorphous Li-Zr-O layer coating on the surface of high-Ni cathode materials for lithium ion batteries

        Lim, Young Jin,Lee, Sun-Me,Lim, Hayoung,Moon, Bora,Han, Kyu-Sung,Kim, Jin-Ho,Song, Jun-Ho,Yu, Ji-Sang,Cho, Woosuk,Park, Min-Sik Elsevier 2018 ELECTROCHIMICA ACTA Vol.282 No.-

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Improving cycle performance and rate-capability of lithium ion batteries is necessary in moving toward their use in electric vehicles. Working towards this goal, we propose an amorphous Li-Zr-O coating on the surface of a high-Ni layered transition metal oxide (LiNi0.8Co0.1Mn0.1O2) <I>via</I> a simple wet process. By using residual Li on the surface of as-prepared LiNi0.8Co0.1Mn0.1O2 particles as a Li source, a non-stoichiometric Li-Zr-O compound can be successfully formed on the surface of LiNi0.8Co0.1Mn0.1O2 particles at a low temperature of 400 °C. The formation of an amorphous Li-Zr-O layer is beneficial in minimizing undesirable side reactions associated with residual Li at the surface and, by extension, improving the cycle performance and rate-capability of LiNi0.8Co0.1Mn0.1O2. The amorphous Li-Zr-O coated LiNi0.8Co0.1Mn0.1O2 exhibits a high reversible capacity of more than 190 mAh g−1 with improved cycle performance. This simple approach offers easy control of the surface characteristics of LiNi0.8Co0.1Mn0.1O2, improving the surface stability and enhancing the thermal stability.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> A non-stoichiometric Li-Zr-O compound is introduced on the surface of NCM811 particles <I>via</I> a wet-process at a temperature of 400 °C. </LI> <LI> An amorphous Li-Zr-O layer is beneficial in minimizing undesirable side reactions associated with residual Li. </LI> <LI> The amorphous Li-Zr-O coated NCM811 exhibits a high reversible capacity of 190 mAh g−1 and stable cycle performance. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>Amorphous Li-Zr-O coating layers can be uniformly formed on the surface of the particles, which is advantageous in providing suitable Li+ pathways and improving structural stability. Effects of Ulmi Pumilae Cortex on AGS Gastric Cancer Cells

Lim, Bora,Lee, Hee Jung,Kim, Min Chul,Kim, Byung Joo KOREAN PHARMACOPUNCTURE INSTITUTE 2013 Journal of pharmacopuncture Vol.16 No.2

Objective: Ulmi Pumilae Cortex (UPC) is a deciduous tree with uneven pinnate leaves and is classified as a subfamily of Ulmuceae and contains many pharmacologically active constituents. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of UPC on the growth and survival of AGS cells, the most common human gastric adenocarcinoma cell lines. Methods: The AGS cells were treated with varying concentrations of UPC. Analyses of the sub G1, caspase-3 activity, and mitochondrial depolarization were conducted to determine whether AGS cell death occured by apoptosis. Furthermore, to identify the role of the transient receptor potential melastatin (TRPM) 7 channels in AGS cell growth and survival, we used human embryonic kidney (HEK) 293 cells overexpressed with TRPM7 channels. Results: The addition of UPC to a culture medium inhibited AGS cell growth and survival. Experimental results showed that the sub G1, caspase-3 activity, and mitochondrial depolarization were increased. Furthermore, TRPM7 channel overexpression in HEK 293 cells exacerbated UPC-induced cell death. Conclusion: These findings indicate that UPC inhibits the growth and survival of gastric cancer cells due to a blockade of the TRPM7 channel activity. Therefore, UPC is a potential drug for treatment of gastric cancer, and TRPM7 channels may play an important role in survival in cases of gastric cancer.

      • Concealment, depression and poor quality of life in patients with congenital facial anomalies

        Lim, So-Young;Lee, Dongsoo;Oh, Kap Sung;Nam, Bora;Bang, Sa-lk;Mun, Goo-Hyun; Pyon, Jai-Kyong;Kim, Ji-Hae;Yoon, Se Chang;Song, Hyo-Seok;Jeon, Hong Jin Sookmyung Women's University Research Institute of 2011 여성과 건강 Vol.6 No.2

Objectives: Studies have shown that patients with congenital facial anomalies are vulnerable to depression. In addition, concealment of facial anomalies in an effort to mask handicaps is common, and these patients also often have difficulties with interpersonal rela¬tionships and in social situations. Despite this, no previous study has investigated the associa¬tion between concealment of facial anomalies and depression, and a patient’s quality of life. Methods: A group of 65 patients, who had been scheduled for plastic surgery, completed this study. A total of 50 patients who had congenital facial anomalies, some of whom concealed their facial anomalies (N = 22), and some whom didn’t (N = 28), as well as 15 patient controls were interviewed and subsequently administered the Beck Depression Inventory-ll (BDI-II), the Structured Clinical Interview for DSM-IV (SCID), the Millon Behavioral Medicine Diagnostic (MBMD) and the WHO Quality of Life (WHOQOL). Results: Among patients with congenital facial anomalies, those who concealed their anom¬alies exhibited a significantly higher level of depression and anxiety; higher rates of self¬ accusation, dissatisfaction, hypochondria, weight loss and antisocial personality traits; and a lower quality of life than those who did not conceal their anomalies. To the contrary, no significant differences were found with respect to depression, anxiety and quality of life between the congenital facial anomaly group and controls. Further, the concealment of facial anomalies was a significant predictor for lifetime major depressive disorder (odds ratio (OR) = 7.1, 95% confidence interval (Cl) 1.4-37.3), after adjusting for age, gender and microtia. Conclusion: Facial concealment is a significant predictor of depression and poor quality of life in patients with congenital facial anomalies.

      • Dysfunction of peroxisome and alterations in expression of peroxisome-related gene are potential pathogenic mechanism of telogen effluvium

        ( Bora Lim ),( Kun Park ) 대한피부과학회 2019 대한피부과학회 학술발표대회집 Vol.71 No.2

Background: Telogen effluvium(TE) is one of the most common causes of alopecia. Though extensive variety of conditions have been implicated in TE, the exact pathogenesis is not veiled. On the one hand, alopecia occurs in patients with inherited peroxisome disorders. Objectives: We hypothesized that dysfunction of peroxisome may be associated with telogen effluvium and tried to find out telogen effluvium-specific gene among peroxisome-related genes. Methods: Scalp tissues were obtained by skin biopsies from healthy controls and patients with TE. Immunofluorescence assay(IFA) and gene profiling was executed to compare expression of peroxisome and peroxisome-related genes between controls and patinets with TE. Results: Our findings of IFA show that expression peroxisome was declined in TE patients. We screened peroxisome-related genes and found potential TE-specific genes; HSD17B4, EHHADH and ACOX1. All of potential TE-specific genes encode enzymes required for peroxisomal β-oxidation of fatty acid. Conclusion: Present study suggests that dysfunction of peroxisome and alteration in expression level of peroxisome-related genes may be a one of pathogenic mechanism of telogen effluvium.

      • 인체 위암세포에서 고삼의 세포사멸효과

        임보라(Bora Lim),이희정(Hee Jung Lee),김민철(Min Chul Kim),김형우(Hyung Woo Kim),김병주(Byung Joo Kim) 한국한의학연구원 2012 한국한의학연구원논문집 Vol.18 No.1

Objective : The purpose of this study was to investigate the anti-cancer effects of Sophorae Radix and the effects of 5-Fluorouracil (5-FU) in human gastric adenocarcinoma cells (AGS). Method : We used human gastric adenocarcinoma cell line, AGS cells. We examined cell death by MTT assay and caspase 3 assay with Sophorae Radix. To examine the inhibitory effects of Sophorae Radix, cell cycle (sub G1) analysis was done the AGS cells after three days with Sophorae Radix. The reversibility of Sophorae Radix was examined on one day to five days treatment with 100 ㎍/ml Sophorae Radix. Result : Sophorae Radix inhibited the growth of AGS cells in a dose-dependent fashion. Also we showed that Sophorae Radix induced apoptosis in AGS cells by MTT assay, caspase 3 assay and sub-G1 analysis. Sophorae Radix combined with 5-FU markedly inhibited the growth of AGS cells compared to Sophorae Radix or 5-FU alone. After 3 days treatment of AGS cells with Sophorae Radix, the fraction of cells in sub-G1 phase was much higher than that of the control group. Conclusion : Our findings provide insight into unraveling the effects of Sophorae Radix in human gastric adenocarcinoma cells and developing therapeutic agents against gastric cancer.

      • Tumor Size Measurement and Feature Point Extraction Using an Endoscope

        Jong-Wook Lim,Dong-Gi Woo,Hoon-Jai Chun,Bora Keum,Jong-Jin Hyun,Young-Joong Kim,Myo-Taeg Lim 제어로봇시스템학회 2010 제어로봇시스템학회 국제학술대회 논문집 Vol.2010 No.10

Recently, a development of the medical instrument using the vision information is brisk. Especially, extracting the 3-dimension information from 2-dimension image is the one of the major research topics. This paper proposes the method to measure tumor size by the 3-dimension information extraction, the triangulation using the extracted 3-dimension information and the camera geometry. To extract the 3-dimension information, the Hough circle transform and triangulation are used. The Hough circle transform is used to extract a feature point from tumor models for the 3-dimension information recovery. An extracted feature point is used for recovering the depth information from the 2-dimension tumor stereo images. A tumor size measurement is done by triangulation using the depth information and camera internal parameters. Matlab and Visual C++ are used for simulation.
