Low - Cost Matrix Development for an Oxide - Oxide Composite

Continuous oxide fiber/oxide matrix composites are attractive for use as high temperature structural materials because they can combine composite properties with long-term oxidative stability. The development of a matrix for such a composite and prevention of matrix-fiber coating interaction is described here. The goal use temperature of this composite is 1100℃ to 1200℃. The composite is being developed by the M²C Consortium comprising 3M, Rockwell International, and SRI International. The composite consists of an alumina-based woven-tow fiber preform, coated with lanthanum phosphate (monazite) to promote fiber debonding and pullout, in an oxide matrix derived from a preceramic-polymer slurry filled with active and inert powders. This approach to the matrix enables conventional polymer matrix composite technology to be used in composite part fabrication. Only one infiltration of the matrix is required, a critical factor in keeping the cast low.

Emergent Collision Avoidance Systems (CAS's) are beginning to assist drivers by performing specific tasks and extending the limits of driver's perception. As CAS's evolve from simple systems handling discrete tasks to complex systems managing interrelated driving tasks, the risk of failure from hidden causes greatly increases. The successful implementation of such a complex system depends upon a robust software architecture. Host of the difficulty in implementing system arises from interconnections between the components. The CAS architecture presented in this paper focuses on these interconnections to mitigate this problem. Moreover, by constructing the GAS architecture through the composition of existing architectural styles, the resulting system will exhibit predictable qualities. Some of the qualities represent limitations that translate into constraints on the system. Others are beneficial aspects that satisfy stakeholder requirements .
ON DIVISORS COMPUTING MLD'S AND LCT'S

We show that if a divisor centered over a point on a smooth surface computes a minimal log discrepancy, then the divisor also computes a log canonical threshold. To prove the result, we study the asymptotic log canonical threshold of the graded sequence of ideals associated to a divisor over a variety. We systematically study this invariant and prove a result describing which divisors compute asymptotic log canonical thresholds.

Purpose. This intra-patient retrospective study of up to 10 years evaluated the clinical success and risk factors of 6- and 8-mm long implants and their respective prostheses. Materials and Methods. The sample consisted of patients treated at a Military Polyclinic dental service, who received both 6- and 8-mm long tissue level implants in the posterior region of the same arch. Data were collected from the dental charts, clinical and radiographic exams, self-report of sleep bruxism, measurement of maximum occlusal force, and clinical crown-to-implant (C/I) ratio. Data were analyzed by descriptive and inferential statistics with univariate and hierarchical multivariate models, at the 0.05 significance level. Results. The 30 patients (27 women) had 85 implants and 83 prostheses. Two implants were lost before prosthesis installation (implant survival: 97.6%). Ten events of prosthetic complication (screw tightening loss) occurred in five patients (success rate: 87.9%) in a single moment. Only the variable C/I ratio had a significant effect for repairable prosthesis complication (P <.05). Conclusion. The results suggest that 6- and 8-mm long implants have similar long-term clinical success for implants and prostheses.
