정책갈등 관리에 있어 정부 신뢰와 불신의 역할 담뱃값 인상 정책을 중심으로

This study sought to investigate the differential roles of trust and distrust in conflict management of the current government. By focusing on the policy to increase tobacco prices in early 2013 which caused controversial issues, researchers explored how governmental integrity and competence affect trust and distrust as well as how trust and distrust influence publics’ conflict resolution acts. A survey with 193 Korean participants was conducted in 2014. The findings of this study indicated that the two factors including trust and distrust play different roles among government’s integrity, competence, and publics’ conflict resolution act (conflict response style). Based on the results of this study, the theoretical and strategic implications were further discussed.

Trust and distrust are separate concepts that co-exist yet differ in terms of their functional roles. However, there is little empirical research to examine how trust and distrust function differently from a corporate crisis management perspective. This study thus attempted to explore how trust and distrust are affected by the crisis types and how the differential concepts stimulate anger and negative communication behavior. An experiment with 200 Korean participants was conducted in 2015. The results showed that trust acts as defensive power to mitigate a corporate crisis whereas distrust works as detrimental factor to worsen the crisis situation. Theoretical and strategic implications are further discussed.

The rise of social media is posing great challenges and opportunities for Public Relations in South Korea. Public relations as a discipline has been focusing on generating effective persuasion through message distribution from the corporation`s or organization`s. However, with the coming of social media, public relations professionals are asked to rethink the way they have been communicating with the public. Although there have been calls for empirical research on the use of social media in public relations, it is not easy to find such studies. In particular, research on how the public are evaluating social media contents such as video clips and images posted by public relations professionals on blogs and contents sharing sites; and what kind of communication contents prompt online word-of-mouth within the social media environment has not yet been conducted. In this regard, the researchers implemented a thorough literature review to conceptualize social media contents quality and proposed an exploratory quality evaluation model. Furthermore, the researchers tested the proposed model through a survey research (N=538).
