        Genetic Variations of the Apolipoprotein B Gene in Korean People and Its Association with Hypercholesterolemia

        Genetic polymorphisms at the apolipoprotein B have been associated with elevated plasma concentrations of LDL, atherosclerosis and increased risk of coronary artery disease. 106 individuals composed of 46 hypercholesterolemic patients and 60 controls were analyzed with Ins/Del length polymorphism, four RFLPs (HincII, PvuII, AluI, EcoRI) and 3`-VNTR to clarify the characteristics of the apolipoprotein B gene and to determine their influence on the lipid profile of hypercholesterolemic patients and controls in Korea. A total of 212 apolipoprotein B alleles from six markers were identified in this study. Heterozygosityranges from zero to 0.32, and the genotyope frequencies in the case of 3`-VNTR are significantly different between two groups. Analysis of linkage disequilibrium revealed paired nonrandom associations between four pairs of polymorphic sites of the apolipoprotein B gene (p<0.05). Moreover, addition of all 4 polymorphic sites provided the highest PIC value. This study also investigated the association of these polymorphisms with the patients and with variation in lipid levels. A significant association between 3`-VNTR genotypes and Lp(a) was observed in hypercholesterolemic patients (p<0.05). The results suggest that genotypes of six polymorphic markers were not significantly associated with TC, TG or LDL-chol level between the patients and controls in the Koreans.

        Synergistic effect of melamine in combination with cyanuric acid on urinary tract toxicity in rats

        The present study investigated the urinary tract toxicity of melamine alone or in combination with cyanuric acid in rats. Male rats were orally administered melamine alone (800 mg/kg) or melamine plus cyanuric acid (50 mg/kg each) for 3 consecutive days. Although melamine treatment did not show any significant difference in body weight, kidney or urinary bladder weight, serum blood urea nitrogen (BUN) or creatinine levels, it caused a decrease in urinary pH and mild histopathological alterations in the kidney and urinary bladder. In contrast, co-administration of melamine and cyanuric acid induced a decrease in body weight, an increase in kidneys and urinary bladder weights, and an elevation in serum BUN and creatinine levels, which were not observed in animals treated with melamine alone. Histopathological examination showed that the incidence and severity of histopathological lesions in the kidney and urinary bladder were much higher than those in the melamine group. Urinalysis revealed an increase in urine occult blood, leukocytes and protein and a decrease in urinary pH. These results indicate that concomitant administration of cyanuric acid synergistically potentiated the urinary tract toxicity induced by melamine in rats. In this study, we first demonstrated the synergistic toxic effects of melamine in combination with cyanuric acid on urinary bladder and urinalysis in rats.

        Citizen Participation in Urban Regeneration on the voluntary participation is important because residents in the local population, reflect the views of important element of successful for Urban Regeneration One. These successful workshop to collect resident opinions for Urban Regeneration and various efforts, including educational and public hearings has taken place. However, such gathering of opinions are concentrated on opinions of its participants and even if there are residents focused on local regions a general promotion is insufficient collect various opinions. This research will collect various residents opinions through local survey and will understand the desired vision and the future prospects of the residents and will induce the business strategies of local urban regeneration. With the research method we composed 5 teams of 2 people as a survey investigation team and an in depth interview team. We surveyed 5 regions of Dang-jin city. As a result, many opinions were reduced, especially the future prospect about education, welfare, improvement of living standards were brought about. The Dang-jin city regeneration that started from 2014 was not known by most of the local residents. It is considered the survey and in-depth interviews contributed to an increase in interest about the local regions and promotions.

        This study sheds light on the role of corporate social responsibility in firms`` growth by investigating how and what corporate social activities may, flow down china auto industry market. This study results based on in-depth case studies from 5 international auto corporations suggest that positive diverse corporate social responsibility amplified that the influence of commitment to the customer on firm``s brand loyalty and sustainable growth. The most important thing is that strategic corporate social responsibility activities including new venture creation support and national project program will have a positive influence on the firm``s growth and brand reputation. We build on advanced solutions to examine the unique and joint activities of auto corporations based on china auto industry market and important factors affecting sustainable growth in auto corporations. Contributions and implication of this study for current and future corporate social responsibility research are discussed.

        Validation of Sea Surface Temperature (SST) from Satellite Passive Microwave Sensor (GPM/GMI) and Causes of SST Errors in the Northwest Pacific

        Passive microwave sea surface temperatures (SST) were validated in the Northwest Pacific using a total of 102,294 collocated matchup data between Global Precipitation Measurement (GPM) / GPM Microwave Sensor(GMI) data and oceanic in-situ temperature measurements from March 2014 to December 2016. A root-mean-square (RMS) error and a bias error of the GMI SST measurements were evaluated to $0.93^{\circ}C$ and $0.05^{\circ}C$, respectively. The SST differences between GMI and in-situ measurements were caused by various factors such as wind speed, columnar atmospheric water vapor, land contamination near coastline or islands. The GMI SSTs were found to be higher than the in-situ temperature measurements at low wind speed (<6 m/s) during the daytime. As the wind speed increased at night, SST errors showed positive bias. In addition, other factors, coming from atmospheric water vapor, sensitivity degradation at a low temperature range, and land contamination, also contributed to the errors. One of remarkable characteristics of the errors was their latitudinal dependence with large errors at high latitudes above $30^{\circ}N$. Seasonal characteristics revealed that the errors were most frequently observed in winter with a significant positive deviation. This implies that SST errors tend to be large under conditions of high wind speeds and low SSTs. Understanding of microwave SST errors in this study is anticipated to compensate less temporal capability of Infrared SSTs and to contribute to increase a satellite observation rate with time, especially in SST composite process.

        Effect of Highly Pressurized Hydrogen Gas Charging on the Hydrogen Embrittlement of API X70 Steel

        During the use of API X70 steel as a pipeline structural material for the transportation of natural gas,hydrogen embrittlement can occur due to the hydrogen contained in natural gas. The aim of this study is toinvestigate the effects of the hydrogen content under high-pressure hydrogen gas conditions on the hydrogenembrittlement of air-cooled API X70 steel. The air-cooled API X70 steel was manufactured by hot rollingand was then air-cooled to room temperature. Tensile test specimens were held for 0 h, 1000 h, and 2000 hwithin a pressure vessel filled with 100% hydrogen gas at a gas pressure of 10 MPa, with the tensile teststhen performed at room temperature. The microstructure of the API X70 steel consists of coarse polygonalferrite, coarse pearlite, and fine acicular ferrite. The yield and tensile strength increased and elongationdecreased considerably after a holding time of 2000 h compared to those of 0 h and 1000 h within the pressurevessel. The morphology of the fracture surface changed from ductile to brittle upon hydrogen gas charging. Secondary cracks were observed in both of the hydrogen-gas-charged specimens. No external cracks wereformed on the surface of the tensile-tested specimen with a 0 h holding time; however, many external crackswere observed on the specimen surface subjected to hydrogen gas charging.

        A Novel Deposition Method of PLGA Nanoparticles on Coronary Stents

        Bare metal stents which were used to treat coronary artery disease have several biochemical problems. Polymerbased drug-eluting stents (DES) have opened up a new paradigm in the treatment of in-stent restenosis. Many studies and research programmes have proved that DES can prevent restenosis. In our study, paclitaxel-loaded poly (lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA) nanoparticles have been deposited along the three dimensional scaffold of coronary stents by a method using self-assembling properties of colloidal particles. We found that the nanoparticles were deposited uniformly and closely packed. The amount of paclitaxel was easily controlled by the drug content of the nanoparticles and the deposition count.

        Genetic Analysis of Pod Dehiscence in Soybean

        Pod dehiscence (PD), defined as the opening of pods along both the dorsal and ventral sutures, causes the seed to shatter in the field before harvesting and results in loss of seed yields. However, breeding for resistance to PD is difficult due to the complicated genetic behavior and environmental interaction. The objective of the present research was to analyze the genetic behavior of PD for improving the breeding efficiency of resistance to PD in soybean. PD after oven-drying the sampled pod at 40~circC for 24 hours was the most reliable to predict the degree of PD tested in the field. Keunolkong, a dehiscent parent, was crossed with non-dehiscent parents, Sinpaldalkong and Iksan 10. Using their F1~;and~;F2 seeds, PD was measured after oven drying the pod at 40~circC for 24 hours. The gene conferring PD behaved in different manners depending on the genetic populations. In the Keunolkong~times Sinpaldalkong population, PD seemed to be governed by single major recessive gene and minor genes, while several genes were probably involved in the resistance to pod dehiscence in the Keunolkong~times Iksan 10 population. Heritability for PD estimated in F2 population showed over 90~% in the two populations. High heritability of PD indicated that selection for resistance to PD should be effective in a breeding program. In addition, genetic mapping of quantitative locus (QTL) for PD in both populations may reveal that genes conferring PD are population-specific

        Background: The procedure that combines crystal-free microdermabrasion using an abrading tip with the pneumatic application of chemical peeling could be effective than chemical peeling. Rare basic data about the recovery of skin barrier function after combined treatment of chemical peels and dermabrasion have been investigated. Objectives: We aimed to investigate the changes in skin barrier function after chemical peeling combined with physical effects. Methods: In this prospective, randomized and split-face controlled study, 13 Asian women were enrolled. We measured the degree of acute skin damage and the time required for the skin barrier function to recover including transepidermal water loss(TEWL), erythema index. We also assessed the skin blood flow in order to investigate the impact of negative pressure on vasculature of the dermis. Results: TEWL in chemical peeling combined with pneumatic dermabrasion was increased after 30 minutes and a significantly decreased TEWL was observed at 2 dayscompared with that in the chemical peeling treated site. The erythema index was the highest at 30 minutes, and it gradually decreased after 7 days. However, the changes in skin erythema index were not significant. After 30 minutes, skin blood flow increased in the chemical peeling combined with pneumatic dermabrasion treated site. Conclusion: In conclusion, skin barrier function following a single application of AHA combined with negative pressure was recovered after 2 days.
